I stayed for 5 nights using my accumulated free points. It was my second stay at this hotel, and this time it was during the best season in Kyoto, so the hotel was bustling. I was upgraded to a Grand Suite, which was slightly smaller than the Nijo Suite I stayed in last time, but still spacious and comfortable. Breakfast at this hotel is quite expensive at ¥6,100, but as a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member, it was complimentary. The breakfast, whether Japanese or Western, was of high quality and delicious. Personally, I found the Japanese breakfast more satisfying as they also serve freshly baked croissants. The bakery set for the Western breakfast was also good, but I preferred the Japanese option. I managed to try different dishes over the 5 days, but I must admit I overate a bit. I also ordered the parent and child bowl through room service, which was not as impressive as I had hoped. Overall, the hotel had a great atmosphere, and the food was satisfying. I would rank it on the same level as The Ritz-Carlton and Park Hyatt.

The spa was also lovely, and I used it twice. The breakfast was disappointing, but since it was free, I can't complain. It would have cost 150,000 yen in cash, and the breakfast was 6,100 yen, so most of the guests were foreigners.

I attended my first hotel's organic vegan afternoon tea. It was like a Japanese appetizer with a variety of dishes, sweets, and mainly herbal tea for drinks. I enjoyed about 6 different herbal teas as part of the all-you-can-drink option, in addition to a welcome drink. The sweets were not sweetened with sugar, so they had a natural sweetness. It was satisfying. The flavors were deep and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Yum!

This is my favorite hotel in Kyoto, with a great location right in front of Nijo Castle. This time, I stayed in a room with a garden view. The traditional Japanese breakfast costs ¥6100 (complimentary for Marriott elite members) and includes a komatsuna smoothie, grilled blackthroat seaperch, various side dishes, yuba tofu, rolled omelette, tempura, hot dish, rice, pickles, dessert, coffee, and croissant. The lush green courtyard at Mitsui is beautiful even on rainy days. Once again, I had a high-quality hotel stay and left very satisfied. I will definitely come back again.

At night, I used in-room dining. Since the outbreak of the new coronavirus, in-room dining has become more convenient when eating out is troublesome. Orders arrived within 30 minutes. Today's soup was corn soup for 1900 yen, Caesar salad with chicken breast for 3000 yen, Margherita pizza for 2800 yen, and Clubhouse sandwich for 3700 yen. The potage was disappointingly ordinary. The pizza was delicious with a thin crust cooked in a kiln. The Caesar salad was the classic combination of romaine lettuce, bacon, and croutons, but it lacked the usual poached egg. The sandwich was tasty with a pickled ginger accent, and the choice of side was fried potatoes or potato chips. While it filled me up, the taste was mediocre.

On our wedding anniversary this year, we were able to stay for free using Marriott points (70,000 points earned from a stay in December plus 10,000 points we had). Despite using points for a complimentary stay, we were upgraded to a spacious room with a view of the garden and a handwritten congratulatory message card from the ambassador, along with three types of welcome sweets. This time, we stayed in a Garden King Room overlooking the courtyard. The welcome drink of sencha and chocolate also adds to the Kyoto charm. The spacious room, open view, and calm atmosphere of the pond and green courtyard create a relaxing atmosphere. As Mitsui Fudosan's hotel, this is the flagship new brand, Hotel The Mitsui series. Among the hotels being built one after another in Kyoto, the luxury with a touch of Japanese elements has become popular with Kyoto fans, especially women in Japan.

I am searching for Marriott status confirmation through Marriott Bonvoy, and I came across this hotel. I have often used hotels under the Mitsui group for work. Recently, they have been managing hotels like Amanemu, Halekulani, and Four Seasons Tokyo Marunouchi, all of which have received the highest 5-star rating from Forbes Travel Guide 2022. I was able to reserve a stay at this hotel through Marriott Bonvoy for the first day of my 3-day trip to Kyoto during the New Year's holiday. Although there was a mix-up with the restaurant reservation, the Italian cuisine reminded me of the crispy texture of Roman pizza. The T-bone steak was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of fat, and the tenderness made it easy to chew. It might have been a bit small in portion, but the taste surpassed even Wolfgang's. For breakfast, you can choose between Japanese and Western options, but both include their famous croissants. However, I know of even better croissants at a hotel in Ise-Shima that is also part of the same group. Overall, the dishes here clearly convey the intentions of the chefs and were all very delicious. Next time, I would like to try the French restaurant if it's available. The thermal spring area is off-limits for swimming but has a dreamy atmosphere that makes you feel sleepy. The private baths are a luxurious service, complete with desserts and free drinks. Since we were already full from breakfast, we only had water. It was a comfortable experience to enjoy the hot springs in the morning. Being close to Kyoto Station, this hotel and few others like Fufu Kyoto and The Westin Kyoto are the only ones with hot springs. The bathrobes in the room were incredibly light and soft to the touch. However, the noise from speeding cars and motorcycles on the road outside can be a bit bothersome. Additionally, the beautiful garden is somewhat overshadowed by the neighboring older hotel's exterior. It would be nice if they raised the landscaping or planted bamboo to address this issue. Despite being a modern hotel, it was a bit inconvenient that I couldn't connect my smartphone for data sharing.

The hotel has 161 rooms, all designed with a blend of Japanese and modern luxury using carefully selected natural materials and exceptional craftsmanship. I went to the café after dinner, where they had delicious cakes and a wide selection of alcohol. The garden was especially beautiful, and I took a moment to relax there.

Breakfast for 6100 yen. Started with amazake. Even for a Japanese breakfast, croissants, juice, smoothies, coffee, and tea are all-you-can-eat. However, if you start with croissants and coffee, you'll be completely satisfied. The quality of the Japanese breakfast is outstanding. Despite the large number of customers, everything is freshly made without a sense of pre-preparation. You can choose from grilled salmon, miso-marinated black cod, or grilled flounder. I chose the miso-marinated black cod, and it was so tender and juicy, even the skin was delicious. There aren't many side dishes, but the pickles are naturally delicious. One of my favorite hotels is located in front of Nijo Castle. I stayed in a room with a view of Nijo Castle. The breakfast is recommended to be Japanese style. It's best to go early to avoid crowds and have a comfortable experience. Having breakfast in the restaurant allows you to enjoy freshly baked croissants along with Japanese dishes. The croissant, made with plenty of Calpis butter, has a gentle yet crispy texture. There are two types of smoothies and fresh juices available for drinks, and you can refill your favorite one. The mango smoothie was delicious. While the Japanese food may not be outstanding in taste, considering the overall quality of the hotel stay and hospitality, it deserves a high rating.

It was raining, so I changed my Kyoto sightseeing plan to just having lunch at the Mitsui Hotel bar! The cherry blossom highball, pizza, and snacks were all delicious. The room I stayed in was also amazing! I want to visit this lovely inn again!
