During a break in my errands, I happened to enter this small restaurant. The interior was really cramped, and when customers at the back of the counter left, everyone in the front had to step outside. It wasn't a place to relax, but I was lucky to find it. The tuna sashimi was delicious, and I ended up ordering it multiple times. The sea urchin and raw yuba were also very tasty. The chef had a quiet demeanor. It's more about quickly enjoying the delicious sushi rather than savoring it slowly with drinks. I would like to visit again on my way back from shopping.

The restaurant has only 8 counter seats and is quite small since chairs were added to the original standing format. I always order the omakase sushi, which is always delicious without even having to specify. The tekka maki, in particular, has the rice and fish reversed. The ikura and tai kobujime are a must-try!

I wandered around Nishiki Market and found this shop that caught my eye. I tried firefly squid, mackerel sushi, striped jack, red miso soup, salmon roe, and marinated sea bream. Everything was delicious. The prices were not cheap, but it was nice to be able to enjoy sushi quickly!

Nishiki Market is always crowded with tourists, and "Ei" is a small sushi restaurant that serves delicious sushi quickly. With about 10 counter seats, the open entrance makes it easy to enter. The recommended assorted sushi set is reasonably priced at 1550 yen for a sushi restaurant in Kyoto. Their specialty mackerel sushi is packed with the umami flavor of well-pressed mackerel, making it enjoyable even for those who are not fans of mackerel sushi. The additional squid marinated in kelp that I ordered was particularly delicious, so I felt that it was good to finish with a few pieces of my favorite sushi. I ended up waiting for my bill until the other customers (who happened to be foreign tourists) finished their meal because I was seated in the back and felt uncomfortable asking them to stand up. It would be better if there were seats available near the entrance, and it may not be suitable for those who want to take their time.

When it comes to eating and walking in Kyoto, Nishiki Market is the place to go! After enjoying shrimp and scallop skewers and some drinks, the urge for sushi struck, leading to a visit to Ei-san with two other guests. We arrived at 3:00 PM, so it wasn't crowded, which was a relief. This sushi restaurant only has counter seats! We ordered the Ei set (mackerel sushi, sea bream, scallop, eel, medium fatty tuna) for 1,550 yen, along with a sake set for 1,000 yen. First, we tried the sea bream, with small, firm rice that was easy to eat. It had a nice flavor of the sea bream. Next was the scallop, which was very tender and delicious. The mackerel had a good amount of fat and was tasty. The eel had a nice smoky flavor from the sauce or grilling, which was also good. Lastly, the medium fatty tuna was delicious without any complaints. It was nice to be able to eat at this price point just by stopping by. After returning to my local area, the only regret I have is not being able to try Kyoto's ramen. Enjoyed Kyoto to the fullest! Thank you for the meal!

The restaurant has about 8 counter seats and is small, but the sushi and small dishes were excellent. It's better to eat quickly and leave rather than linger. If you are seated at the counter in the back of the restaurant, it can be difficult to pass by if there are other customers, so it's recommended to go without large bags and in light clothing.

The sushi was delicious and the quality of the ingredients was top-notch. However, I couldn't help but notice that the female staff member behind the counter was leaning against the wall with her hands behind her back the entire time. As someone in the service industry myself, I felt that this was not the most professional posture to maintain while working.

Located along the street of Nishiki Market, this place has a very small interior with only two L-shaped counters for 6 people and 2 people. It's so cramped that when someone at the back of the 6-person counter leaves, everyone at the entrance side needs to step outside. It feels like a standing bar where everyone cooperates. It used to be a standing sushi place, but now there are chairs for sitting. When you order beer, you'll be pleasantly surprised to receive a super cold bottle of Heartland beer and a glass. The set of alcohol and 5 pieces of chef's choice sushi costs less than 1,500 yen, which is incredibly cheap. I also ordered additional sushi toppings to try. The rice is firm and cold, with a vinegar and sugar flavor that makes it hard to tell if it's sushi rice or regular rice, giving it a dry and balled-up texture. The portions are small, making it easy for even women to eat. Enjoy your meal and leave promptly after eating. Thank you for the meal.

It used to be a standing-eating place, but now there are chairs arranged in an L-shape with 8 seats. However, the chairs are placed right against the wall, so everyone needs to get out for others to leave. It's a casual Edo-style sushi restaurant. Delicious smile~! Sake, Kaishun Asa Karakuchi Junmai Sake from Shimane Prefecture, Oolong tea set, Mackerel sushi, Medium fatty tuna, Eel, Marinated squid, Special red miso soup, Fatty tuna, Tori shell, Salmon roe, Tuna sashimi, Striped jack, Seared mackerel sushi, Freshwater eel, Marinated squid, Shrimp, Kyoto.

Due to the timing, there were no other customers on this day despite usually being crowded. I took the opportunity to stop by for a short while. Since I had plans for dinner later, I opted for something light. The sashimi assortment with a drink cost around 1300 yen. The prices for sushi are similar. It's a good place to enjoy a light meal at a reasonable price.

I stumbled upon a sushi restaurant while strolling through Nishiki Market and decided to stop by. It's recommended for those who want to eat sushi quickly.

I stopped by a standing sushi bar at Nishiki Market for a quick bite. I tried my favorite Hikarimono and firefly squid from the Heartland. I was considering having some sake if the taste was good, but the rice turned out to be a bit dry unexpectedly. It's not bad, but I wouldn't recommend it to people coming from afar. Maybe you can't tell when you're eating it. It's a bit of a shame. I thought it would be good to stop by casually next time since there will be some time until then.

I wandered around Nishiki Market and decided to try a sushi restaurant called "Hide" that always seemed busy. I ordered dishes like fresh horse mackerel and tofu skin sushi, along with some beer. The sushi was delicious, especially the slightly vinegared rice paired perfectly with the alcohol. The quality of the fish was top-notch. I would love to visit again!

I wasn't in the mood for a heavy meal, but I knew I would get hungry before dinner, so I decided to stop by this restaurant on a whim. I ordered the English set menu, while my companion ordered a la carte items such as salmon and eel. The dishes looked appetizing and tasted delicious. The English set menu portions were slightly smaller than ordering a la carte, but the quality was good. The medium fatty tuna had just the right amount of oil, the scallops were small but tasty, the marinated sea bream and eel were both delicious. The mackerel sushi was well-seasoned, and the red miso soup was rich. After about 10 minutes, we asked for the bill and left. I enjoyed the casual and relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant.

I went out to Kyoto. What should I eat? Without any challenge, no, I want to eat stable sushi. I found this place while walking around, so I looked up which exit to take at Shijo Kawaramachi, and it seems like going up exit 9 is the best. The restaurant has 8 seats. I arrived at 12:40 pm and was seated at one of the remaining 2 seats. I reviewed my own review and decided to start with the English set for 1320 yen. While everyone around me was enjoying sake, I enjoyed the sushi. The English set includes medium fatty tuna, eel, mackerel sushi, sea bream with kelp, yellowtail, and red miso soup. Out of the 5 pieces, I usually don't like eel and mackerel sushi, but these were delicious without any fishy taste. I even thought I would like to eat them again. The red miso soup only has green onions in it, but the red miso is rich and delicious. If there was tamago (egg) in it, I would have been even more excited. The sushi is delicious and satisfying. Today, the rice was a bit firm. I decided to add some of my favorites. I added squid with kelp, marinated tuna, surf clam, and fresh octopus. Each piece came out just right and I thoroughly enjoyed it. They also have sets like the hospitality set for 1320 yen, which includes a drink of your choice and 5 pieces of chef's choice sushi, or the sashimi set for 1320 yen, which includes a drink of your choice and 5 types of sashimi to start with and add on. I forgot to eat the conger eel...

Located about a 5-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station in Kyoto, Hidetoshi Sushi is a cozy and affordable sushi restaurant at the eastern end of Nishiki Market. With only about 8 narrow seats inside, the atmosphere is lively and the sushi rice is firm with a slightly salty taste, perfect for pairing with sake. The quality of the fish is top-notch, with prices starting at 170 yen per piece. It's a great place to enjoy quick and delicious sushi!
Visited in October 2021 after a meeting in Kyoto, I decided to head to Nishiki Market. As I was walking around, I started craving sushi and remembered Hidetoshi Sushi. This sushi restaurant offers a mix of Edo-style and Kyoto-style sushi in a cozy space with a counter of 8 seats. They also provide chairs. Of course, when you eat sushi, you want to have some drinks too, right? So I started with a glass of Heartland beer for 660 yen.
I ordered:
- Special Mackerel Sushi 300 yen
- Scallop 220 yen
- Marinated Sea Bream 220 yen
- Amberjack 170 yen
- Pacific Saury 350 yen (I had seconds)
- Horse Mackerel 330 yen (I had seconds)
- Live Octopus 170 yen (I had seconds)
- Kyoto Miyama Fresh Yuba (tofu skin) 220 yen (I had seconds)
I marked the items I had seconds of. The sushi rice was quite firm and had a nice texture, with a slightly salty taste that paired well with the abundant soy sauce on the toppings. I also enjoyed some sake and a sweet potato highball.
The special Mackerel Sushi was a seasonal delight with good fat content and a gentle finish. The marinated sea bream was moist and tender, while the horse mackerel and Pacific saury were fresh and flavorful. The live octopus was crunchy and delicious, and the Kyoto-style tofu skin was a unique and tasty choice.
For dessert, I had more live octopus, horse mackerel, and Pacific saury. I love these types of sushi as they are my favorites. With some sake and a sweet potato highball, I ended up spending 4,800 yen, which was well worth it for the quality and quantity of food and drinks.
This charming restaurant is perfect for a casual sushi outing, with its delightful sushi rice and fresh fish. I can see myself getting drawn back here for a leisurely lunch and drinks in Kyoto. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I used to visit this place in the past, and after a long time, I visited again. While it used to be a standing-style eatery, now chairs were provided, maybe due to COVID-19. The sushi was as fresh and delicious as ever. They had a decent variety of sake as well, making it an overall favorite spot for me.

The last time I ordered the kanpyo maki and other dishes, they were all very delicious. I would like to enjoy them slowly next time with a friend. Unfortunately, I have few friends. As soon as I thought I wanted some tea after the meal, they offered to bring some. The combination of the chef and the hostess is exquisite.

For lunch during a trip to Kyoto, I decided to have some sushi and drinks. The restaurant had a small seating area, so I visited at the right time.
- The marinated tuna was light and tasty.
- The firefly squid had a smooth miso flavor and was delicious.
- The fresh tofu skin was creamy and delicious.
- The sea urchin melted in the mouth with no fishy taste.
- The iron fire roll had thick slices of tuna with a rich flavor, very satisfying.
- The mackerel sushi had thick slices with a good texture and was tasty.
- The crab miso was rich and paired well with sake.
- The seasonal sake was easy to drink and delicious.
Overall, it's a great place for tasty and affordable sushi, perfect for a casual drink and snack.

On this day, I had a meeting in Karasuma, Kyoto♪ After a successful presentation, I finally got to explore Nishiki Market~ Found a nice little sushi restaurant~ It had only counter seats and the atmosphere was great♪ A bottle of beer for 600 yen... Heartland beer! It had a light touch which was nice♪ The English set for 1200 yen included eel, medium fatty tuna, konbu-jime sea bream, scallops, and the famous mackerel sushi, a total of 5 pieces with a red miso soup set. Each piece had a small portion of rice, perfect for a casual sushi experience. It was so much fun enjoying sushi in Kyoto♪ The staff I was with also seemed satisfied♪ I learned a lot about Nishiki Market during our time there, it went by so quickly~ I heard that there are yakitori and izakaya restaurants nearby that are affiliated with this place too♪ A versatile spot for a casual drink, light meal, or a hearty feast~ I'd love to stop by again♪ Thank you for the meal~ ===========
