When it comes to transportation hubs in Sakyo Ward, I think it would be either Keihan Demachiyanagi Station or Subway Kitayama Station. Another area that could be considered a hub is around Takano Bridge, but Sweet Fountain is located near Eizan Mototanaka Station, which is between Demachiyanagi Station and Takano. Although it may not be a hub, the area is close to Kyoto University, and there are various shops nearby. Some popular places include the Chinese restaurant Kasho and the tonkatsu restaurant Okuda, where there are often long lines on weekends. Recently, there has been an increase in Chinese-owned authentic Chinese restaurants in the area, giving it a somewhat Chinatown-like atmosphere. Compared to Kyoto Station, the glamorous Hankyu Kawaramachi, Karasuma, and Katsura Stations, Demachiyanagi and other areas in Sakyo are considered plain and have poor access from Osaka, Kobe, and the northern Hanshin region. However, there are hidden gem eateries loved by the locals in Sakyo. In terms of cakes, Kyoto is generally expensive, and this trend is particularly strong in Sakyo. Among the few affordable and delicious options, Sweet Fountain is one of them. I purchased two items this time:
- Lemon Tart (300 yen): The refreshing lemon flavor really stands out. The tart base is relatively soft and has a homemade feel, making it suitable as a souvenir that anyone can enjoy. It is very easy to eat with no strong flavors.
- Summer Vegetable Quiche (250 yen): I had this as a side dish for dinner. This quiche is incredibly delicious! It is filled with eggplant, red and yellow bell peppers, and edamame, with a very gentle and fluffy egg mixture. The tart crust is appropriately soft, and I can't help but wonder why I used to buy similar items at restaurants or chain stores at a relatively high price! Other quiches tend to have strong flavors and become tiring to eat, but this one remains delicious until the last bite. It is best to warm it up in a toaster. And all this for 250 yen is truly a great deal! I would love to purchase more tarts and quiches when I'm in the area. I hope this kind of shop continues to thrive for a long time.

You can purchase a whole cake for 2280 yen, which is quite cheap considering the rising prices. Advance reservation is required! Depending on the season, the type of fruit topping may vary, sometimes making it more luxurious! It's a small shop, so it may be hard to find, but it's worth a try. They also have cookies available!

I visited a shop that I was interested in. At 5:00 p.m. on a weekday, there were only a few cakes left. I had a lemon tart for 230 yen and a brownie for 140 yen. I wish I had also ordered the cookie next to it for 40 yen! The staff was very kind. I feel like I want to come back to this place.

As I was walking around feeling a bit dizzy, I stumbled upon a showcase with menu plates. I wanted to try the lemon tart that was on the menu, but unfortunately, it was sold out today. I decided to buy the strawberry shortcake for 380 yen instead. It didn't look like the typical shortcake I had in mind, with cream topped with jam and whole strawberries lined up in the middle of the sponge. It had a homemade feel to it, which was quite nostalgic. I also bought a dark cherry cheese tart for 240 yen, with a firm and crunchy cream base filled with chunks of dark cherries. They had a variety of baked goods, including cookies that you could buy individually. It was mentioned that they were made with minimal additives. If this place is nearby, I would definitely want to go back for more treats.

Here is the translation of the restaurant review content:
Imagine a small cake shop. Now, cut the size of the shop in half. Make it even smaller. That's the shop we're talking about this time! It's one of the smallest cake shops in town. It's so tiny that you might miss it if you're not paying attention while riding your bike. Inside the shop, which is about the size of one tatami mat, there is a showcase with homemade-looking cakes lined up. Surprisingly, there is a wide variety of cakes to choose from, which was one of the surprising points. I was quite indecisive. I ended up buying a lemon tart, attracted by its beautiful appearance. Also, the cookies were quite cheap, so I bought one of each flavor. The cake bag was also cute and made me very happy. The cream on top of the lemon tart was fluffy and light! The tart at the bottom was not too hard or too soft, just right. I was expecting a more "homemade" taste, but it was as good as the cakes lined up in department stores! It was very delicious. As for the cookies, they had a homemade taste. This is not a negative thing at all, homemade cookies are incredibly delicious! Department store cookies have a certain impersonal quality to them. Homemade ones have warmth. I'm really curious about the other cakes too! I have decided to come back again.

This is a small, tiny cake shop right next to Motonakata Station. When you enter the shop, you'll see a refrigerated showcase in front of you, and baked goods on your right. The shop feels crowded when one person stands in front of the showcase. Inside the showcase, there are 12 types of homemade treats like apple pie and chestnut cake. I was very intrigued but since I was traveling, I only bought cookies this time. You can pick out cookies from jars on your right, with options like ginger, peanut, and cheese pie, each priced at 30 yen. The shapes of the cookies are fun, like bats, moons, and gourds. They tasted nostalgic and heartwarming.

Basic and dense baked cheesecake with a lemon scent and a flavor reminiscent of Parmesan cheese with a hint of saltiness. It was delicious. The banana coffee cream cake has a strong coffee cream with a hint of bitterness that both kids and adults can enjoy. While the banana coffee cream cake was also delicious, I preferred the cheesecake. The cheesecake pairs well with coffee, tea, and even alcohol. Overall, the prices are reasonable, and the cakes have a homemade feel that gives a sense of comfort and assurance. Isn't this kind of shop becoming rare these days?

I went to a very small bakery right near Mototanaka Station. The shop is so tiny that once one person enters, it's already full, but the display case and shelves are filled with lots of baked goods. And everything is incredibly cheap. I was planning to get some baked goods to go, but then I spotted a delicious-looking quiche... "Mangetout Pepper Quiche" for 250 yen (tax included). There are a few seats inside, so I decided to eat there. They warmed it up for me. The quiche with the sweet flavor of mangetout peppers was delicious! I also bought about 5 pieces of "Germ Biscuits" for 40 yen each (tax included) to take home. These biscuits have a crunchy texture and are lightly sweet. They also had several square cakes of decent size for around 150 yen each! In Tokyo, they would probably cost around 400 yen. I would definitely want to visit this shop again if I'm in the area.

This is a revisit. The attached photo is of a quiche, but the brown, square thing is thick fried tofu. It was really delicious. I also bought various other items and they kindly listened to my selfish requests. Everything was delicious. I hope this kind of shop will always be there.

I happened to pass by and decided to stop by this small shop with a narrow entrance and depth. As soon as I walked in, I was hit by the smell of spices. I regretted not ordering more, but I purchased a cheese tart and a vegetable quiche (I don't remember the names). I enjoyed them by the Kamo River nearby. The cheese tart was delicious, with the acidity and richness of the cheese being the perfect match. The vegetable quiche had a light spiciness, but the gently cooked vegetables had a soft texture, with the crunchy texture of lotus root. It was really delicious. The spice aroma didn't transfer to the cheese tart. I regret not buying more.

I visited a bakery that was known for their handmade treats at a craft market, and I was not disappointed! The small shop was cozy and filled with a variety of baked goods. Although I couldn't carry anything that needed refrigeration, I still found some delicious treats to try:
- Cheese Cream Puff $1.20: A fluffy pastry filled with a light cream cheese cream.
- Lemon Bar $1.50: A crispy cookie with a hint of lemon icing.
- Brownie $1.80: A soft and moist chocolate cake-like brownie with walnuts.
- Sprouted Biscuit $0.40: A crunchy and flavorful cookie.
- Milk Honey Cookie $0.30: A crispy and powdery cookie with a rich milk flavor.
- Ginger Cookie $0.30: A subtly spiced ginger cookie.
- Chocolate Chip Cookie $0.40: An egg-free cookie that is crispy and light.
These simple and delicious treats made me want to visit the shop again soon!

Located just north of the former Tanaka Station on the Eiden line in December 2016. Tucked away amidst a cluster of small shops like takoyaki and curry restaurants. The shop is about the size of both hands spread out. The aroma of freshly baked tarts wafted through the air. The display case inside the shop was filled with cute baked goods like cheesecakes and apple pies. Prices are quite reasonable, with slices costing 300 yen and whole cakes under 2000 yen. Although I was intrigued by the "Cheese Cream Puff" in the top right corner, it seemed to be sold out. Instead, I purchased a cheesecake and a cake with nuts and dried fruits. I brought them home and enjoyed them with hot milk.
- Cheesecake (280 yen): A dense and rich cheesecake with a strong presence and a flavor I quite like.
- Cake with nuts and dried fruits (180 yen): A pound cake-like texture, dense but moist. The chewy nuts and juicy dried fruits add a nice touch, and the quality is reassuring. These homey sweets offer great value for money and would be handy for a tea break. I look forward to trying the Cheese Cream Puff next time. Thank you for the meal.

I found this place right after buying a bagel at "Komugi." The appearance is quite similar - it's a narrow space where only one person can enter at a time. The showcase had lots of tarts, as well as muffins that seemed fine at room temperature. I bought a brownie, muffin, and cookie for 340 yen. It was super cheap! The brownie was light, but when you eat the chocolate chip part, it's sweet and delicious. The muffin and cookie had a simple taste, not too sweet, and were not dry. They were tasty. I could eat them every day. I want to try the tarts next time! Open from 11:00 to 20:00, closed on Mondays.

It's a small shop that you might pass by even if you set the navigation and check the map. The shop has a narrow interior, but offers about 5 or 6 types of cookies. There are also similar varieties of brownies. When I visited, there were about 7 types of cakes as well. And surprisingly, all the prices are very reasonable. The taste of all the sweets is surprisingly not too sweet. In fact, some like the banana crafty or apple pie are only sweet from the fruits. The slices are big but can be eaten quickly. These cakes give a nostalgic and simple feeling as if they were made at home. Thank you for the meal.

After being intrigued by a Chinese restaurant, I was curious about a cake shop next. Just like the Chinese restaurant, the cake shop's appearance was surprising. It had a unique and somewhat intimidating atmosphere that my mother showed no interest in. However, I was determined to try something here. I wanted to have a cheese cream puff... but wait, it's not in the showcase? I asked the staff, and indeed they didn't have it, which was disappointing. Nevertheless, I decided to try a lemon tart and a few different types of cookies that were individually wrapped in a jar in the small eat-in corner. The lemon tart had a nice tangy flavor, and the cookies were all homely and unique in taste. Despite hesitating due to the shop's atmosphere, I would definitely visit again if it were nearby. They also had cold drinks like lemonade and it seemed like a place where high school girls would stop by after school... even though I'm not sure if there's a school nearby. I hope they have the cheese cream puff next time.

Located along the Higashioji-dori street in Mototanaka, a small, inconspicuous cake stand that you would definitely miss if you were driving by. I stumbled upon this cute little shop while taking a stroll in the area before, and was drawn inside as if by a magnet, so I decided to visit again. Inside the shop, there is a showcase with chairs and a table nearby. You can also order some drinks. For regular customers, they might think, "Shall I have a coffee while buying a cake?" Oh, how envious I am of the locals... The shop has a Thai-style decor with adorable handmade signs. You can purchase about 10 types of baked goods, tarts, and cheesecakes. And the prices are incredibly cheap. Even the most expensive cake costs just over 300 yen! I bought a dark cherry tart, a cheesecake, and an apple crumble. I bought five items but it only cost around 1200 yen! The taste is not as sophisticated as Salon de The, but more like a delicious dessert cafe, with the flavors of the ingredients shining through. And the shop has a stylish yet relaxed atmosphere, like a dessert stall. I think the owner of this kind of shop is wonderful. Personally, I love this kind of atmosphere, so I plan to visit again ❤️.

Very small shop. It's located just north of Momoyama, right after crossing the train tracks. The cakes are all cheap!! 240 yen for Caramel Cheese Tart, Dark Cherry Cheese Tart. 250 yen for Quiche, Lemon Tart, Banana Crafty. 280 yen for Cheesecake, Coffee Banana. 300 yen for Strawberry Crafty. 330 yen for Strawberry Short Quiche and Lemon Tart. I bought two Quiches for 500 yen (*^o^*) The Quiche of the day was Onion Quiche. It had a slightly crunchy texture with plenty of onions! This type is delicious too. The Lemon Tart had a crispy tart with a refreshing sweet and sour lemon cream and fluffy whipped cream. It was deliciousヾ(@⌒ー⌒@)ノ

I was curious about this small shop that I had never visited before, but for some reason I always passed by it. On this day, I finally decided to go in with a specific target in mind. Standing in front of the shop, I realized how small it was. There were customers inside, so I waited outside until it was my turn to go in. In the small showcase, there were tarts and quiches. I bought a dark cherry cheese tart (200 yen), a cheesecake (250 yen), an apple almond tart (250 yen), and a lemon tart (250 yen). I bought four items for a total of 950 yen, which was cheap. The flavors were not too rich, but they all had a gentle taste. The sizes were just right, so they felt more like snacks than desserts.

Next to Didi, there is a very small cake shop. I visited for the first time. When you take out, they put it in a simple paper bag. There is no ice pack, just like Johan in Nakameguro. I bought American-style cheesecake, which doesn't melt, so it's not a problem. I wonder if it's different if you buy a cake with cream? I bought plain cheesecake and caramel cheese tart. Both have a rich, dense texture with a hint of browning. The sweetness is modest, with a smooth acidity of the cheese and a natural sweetness in perfect balance. The crispy, gentle tart part is also delicious. The caramel cheese tart has a slightly fragrant caramel topping on the surface. It was a simple cake with a heartwarming atmosphere, as if a mother had made it for her children without using unnecessary ingredients. The price is very reasonable. I definitely want to try it again when I pass by.
