The purpose was to visit the museum, so I didn't know about the cafe until just before. But when I saw the pictures of parfaits and tea, I thought I had to go there! My intuition was right, it was a lovely cafe. The atmosphere inside was simple and calming, and when you sit down, you are served with a welcome tea along with the menu. I'm not sure if it changes daily or monthly, but the tea of the day was hojicha. The name of the tea, "Naka no Kimi," was fitting for the Genji Museum. There were two sizes of parfaits available, regular and small, but I chose the regular size. The parfait that arrived was like a piece of art. I couldn't quite tell from the pictures I had seen beforehand, as the container was glass (transparent), but essentially it was a parfait packed inside a hat-shaped container, with ice cream, jelly, and the top part representing a dry landscape garden with cream, etc. It was so beautiful that it almost felt like a waste to eat it. And the surprises continued as I started eating. The ice cream, jelly, cream, chestnut paste in the shape of a rocky mountain... everything was incredibly delicious! You could eat them separately or scoop up a bit of everything with a spoon and enjoy the flavors together. The sweetness was just right, so I didn't get tired of it and finished it all deliciously. I was curious about the parfait container, so I asked which one it was when paying, and they said they ordered it and had it made overseas. I'm interested in trying the parfaits and seasonal sweets in the future, so I thought I should include this cafe in my schedule for my next trip to Kyoto.

Today, I visited "Unjo Saryo" in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture. It is located within the Genji Monogatari Museum. The shop has a concept of connecting the culture of Uji tea and traditional Japanese traditions to the next generation. Upon entering the museum grounds, you walk through a wooded area and come across a building with a small pond. The entrance is built over the pond, accessed by a ramp. Inside, the walls are mostly glass, offering a view of the garden. I ordered the Garden Parfait and Matcha Latte set, which was delicious. The parfait was beautifully presented with greenery and seasonal fruits, while the latte had a nice mix of matcha. The atmosphere was calming, and the staff were friendly. It was a delightful experience.

I saw on SNS that there is a garden-style parfait only available here, so I visited during my Uji exploration. I visited the museum first, but later found out that there was no admission fee for the museum. The exhibition and original anime were different from my previous visit. As for the parfait, it seems to change with the seasons. This time it seemed like it was for spring. It looked beautiful, but I noticed some fingerprints on the pretty glass from the staff. The way it was carried was a bit risky (maybe a new employee?), and the menu handling was a bit hesitant. It was kind of endearing, but I wish the senior staff had guided them a bit more. That was the only disappointing part.

The cafe at the Genji Monogatari Museum, which had been closed for renovations for a long time, has finally reopened. The cozy atmosphere of the cafe, with a focus on the warmth of wood, is truly amazing. I decided that I had to go there as soon as it reopened. When I arrived around 2 o'clock, the place was quite crowded. I ordered the Garden Parfait for 1650 yen, and when it arrived, I was amazed at how beautiful it looked. The parfait was not only visually stunning but also delicious, with layers of different textures and flavors. The Matcha Latte that I ordered was also excellent. After finishing my meal, I took a leisurely stroll in the garden and then visited the Genji Monogatari Museum. The museum offered a glimpse into a world of elegance and beauty, with exhibits depicting scenes from the Tale of Genji and other traditional Japanese stories. It was a truly enchanting experience, and I felt like I was floating on a cloud all day.

A hidden gem cafe located inside the Uji Genji Monogatari Museum, a branch of the Matcha Republic. The cafe offers a serene and calming atmosphere with a beautiful dry landscape garden. They serve high-quality Uji tea and a variety of teas. I tried the Matcha Latte Set for 2,200 yen, which came with a cute cloud-shaped glass. The Garden Parfait allows you to choose between cherry blossom ice cream and matcha ice cream. The design of the parfait resembles the garden's dry landscape. I chose the cherry blossom ice cream, which had a lovely sakura scent. The parfait also included chewy white dumplings with matcha sauce and matcha jelly. The self-prepared matcha latte was delicious as well. The dishware, resembling the pattern of the dry landscape garden, was also charming. Overall, it was a delightful experience at Unjosaryo in Uji, Kyoto.

Garden parfait and Japanese red tea latte set for 2080 yen at the Genji Monogatari Museum cafe. Located in the free area of the museum shop, so you can just visit the cafe. The welcome tea is iced Japanese red tea. The seasonal art parfait features chestnut and osmanthus. The chestnut cream, roasted green tea gelato, osmanthus jelly, and roasted green tea jelly are delicious. The mochi could be a bit bigger. The latte is made with Japanese red tea extracted with espresso, very rich. You can enjoy the aroma by adding osmanthus syrup. The museum will be closed for air conditioning work from 11/21 to 3/13, so hurry if you want to visit.

I visited a café inside the Uji Aru Genji Monogatari Museum on April 2, 2022. I prefer tea over coffee, and I finally got to visit this café that I've always wanted to go to. I was torn between the famous parfait, but since I was full, I opted for wagashi and matcha cheesecake. I chose sencha tea, which I love. It has become one of my favorite places. I had:
- Sencha Daikun: ¥880
- Matcha Cheesecake - Unkai -: ¥880
- Wagashi: ¥440~

Visited on a Saturday during opening hours at Uji City Genji Monogatari Museum, in the free area of the museum, there is a tea house. It was almost empty during my 30-minute stay. I entered, chose my seat, and ordered at the table. Payment was made at the counter at the end. The menu was brought by the staff, but you could also view it through a QR code on the table. There were plenty of set menus for sweets and drinks, making it easy to order. I ordered the following set:
- Matcha cheesecake and iced matcha set (1,580 yen)
The cheesecake had a cloud-like appearance and a creamy texture, with a hint of yuzu adding a mellow flavor to the strong matcha taste. The iced matcha was served in a cup equivalent to about 4 servings. It was not very bitter, making it easy to drink. The only downside was the service, as the staff seemed a bit slow and preoccupied with other tasks. They were a bit delayed in seating us, taking orders, and processing payments.

Opened on April 2, 2022! A new authentic Japanese tea cafe from "Matcha Republic" called "Matcha Republic" has opened in the free space inside the Genji Monogatari Museum! I came to Uji for the first time in a few years for this cafe. [Garden Parfait - Sakura no Kuni Hama -] ¥1,650 - More like an art garden theme than a parfait, very Kyoto-like - The happiness of eating Uji matcha in Uji - Various flavors packed into one, harmonizing well - Elegant taste [Organic Japanese Black Tea Ukihashi] ¥770 - A refreshing black tea that goes well with Japanese food - Want to drink it with soba or rice - Looks like whiskey at first glance [Affogato and Cold Matcha Set (Sakura and Matcha)] ¥1,580 - Sakura has a salty taste and is refreshing - Rich matcha goes well with it - The cold matcha is strong but has a refreshing aftertaste Overall, the atmosphere is great. It's a bit away from the city center, so it's not crowded, which is nice! I also like the forest-like setting. The best part is the beautiful tableware. Really lovely! Just that makes it an exciting cafe! I went around 11:30 on a holiday and was able to sit at my favorite table.

There is a great atmosphere at the free space in the Genji Monogatari Art Museum. It's a bit away from the crowded area, so it's quiet and has a great ambiance. I had a hard time choosing from the menu, but since it was very hot, I ordered Affogato and Gyokuro Latte. The Latte was fun to finish by myself. It's quite difficult to make it two-layered. The menu is artistic and interesting compared to others, so I would like to visit again.
