haruoya
Located a little off National Route 178, this restaurant can be found by heading north at the intersection with Iwataki Police Box, then turning west at the first unfamiliar alley and heading north. It is a quiet area surrounded by residential buildings. The restaurant has a small parking lot in front that can fit four cars, although it may be a bit tight for larger vehicles. The exterior gives off a vibe of a local diner rather than a Western-style grill. Inside, there are four tables for 4-6 people each and a small counter with two seats. Surprisingly, all seats are non-smoking, possibly due to regulations. The menu offers a variety of Western dishes such as beef steak, hamburger steak, omelets, and mixed grills, as well as traditional Japanese diner options like tonkatsu set meal, fried chicken set meal, and ginger pork set meal. I was planning on ordering the mixed grill, but somehow ended up requesting the chicken cutlet instead. The dish arrived in less than 10 minutes, and to my delight, it was served with a generous amount of demiglace sauce. The chicken cutlet was made from thigh meat, maintaining its crispy texture even after being coated in the sauce. The portion size of the chicken cutlet was a bit on the smaller side, equivalent to about one-third of a large thigh or half of a small thigh. The demiglace sauce had a standard flavor, so I added a bit of extra seasoning to enhance the taste. The side dishes included shredded cabbage, tomato, lettuce, potato salad, and spaghetti. The potato salad had a somewhat loose, paste-like consistency. The spaghetti, a classic ketchup-based dish, appeared to be seasoned with demiglace sauce instead. The rice, which I was pleasantly surprised by, was served in a substantial portion and had a delicious taste with a subtle sweetness and stickiness. The restaurant also offers free refills and upsizes for rice, which is a great service for those with a big appetite. The miso soup was made with red miso and had a mild flavor. Overall, the meal was enjoyable, and I look forward to trying the mixed grill next time. Thank you for the delicious meal.
