In the tranquil natural surroundings of Fukuchiyama, there are several shops where we decided to have a meal this time. The seafood dishes were all fresh, with fish swimming in tanks inside the restaurant and cooked fresh upon ordering. Especially the fatty tuna at the end was incredibly fresh and melted in the mouth without any fishy taste. We also enjoyed abalone and other high-quality fish dishes. The chef and staff were all friendly, and I think I would become a regular if this restaurant were in my local area. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

When traveling to Fukuchiyama, it's a common practice to stay at Royal Hill Fukuchiyama, enjoy the hot springs, and have fish dishes at "Futo" or duck hot pot at "Torinako". However, tonight we went to "Futo" with the staff. It's a bit far from the hotel, so we took a taxi. The location may not be the best, but the restaurant is always bustling with regular customers, showing its popularity. Make sure to call ahead before going! The sashimi includes seasonal saury, white squid, remaining pike conger, and bonito, all delicious without fail. The portions are generous, so you might want to order half for the number of people. I was impressed when they grilled the leftover belly part of the saury sashimi with salt. Other izakaya dishes are also available, and surprisingly, the potato salad here is popular. The must-try dish to finish off is the "Futo-maki", a thick roll filled with seafood. If you arrive late, the vinegar rice may run out, so we immediately reserved the "Futo-maki" for the end when we arrived (laughs). There is a good selection of local sake, making it a great place for sake lovers.

I searched on Tabelog for a place to stay overnight in Fukuchiyama, but there were few reviews. So, I asked at the front desk of the hotel I was staying at, Hotel Royal Hill Fukuchiyama. They had a list ready and recommended a nearby place called "Futoshi" when I requested the best place for fish dishes in traditional Japanese cuisine. Despite my initial research, I decided to go with their suggestion, and it turned out to be a great choice! It's true what they say about asking locals for recommendations. The restaurant was small and had a sushi bar-like atmosphere, with skilled chefs behind the counter. The menu featured high-quality sashimi, seasonal seafood sashimi, grilled dishes, and tempura at reasonable prices. The portion sizes were generous, enough for two people. The salt on the grilled fish seemed a bit heavy, maybe due to the local culinary tradition. I ordered some unique sashimi dishes like white squid and Pacific saury, along with popular choices like red snapper, yellowtail, flounder, and tuna. The grilled red snapper I ordered came with the head and collar, which turned out to be the most delicious parts. They even turned the leftover saury sashimi into grilled fish as a complimentary service. The thick and tasty conger eel tempura was a favorite of mine. The bill for four people, including a beer, two servings of hot sake, and plenty of food, came out to only 9,330 yen. I had to double-check if the bill was correct because it seemed too good to be true. This place felt like a true authentic izakaya. I was a bit tipsy when I took a blurry photo of the salmon tea pickles to end the meal.

This is a sushi restaurant in Fukuchiyama. In addition to the counter, there are several tatami rooms. While fish is the main focus, they also have a decent selection of meat dishes, including seasonal options. The recommended dish is the sashimi set meal. For 1500 yen, you get a generous assortment of sashimi with side dishes like miso soup. By adding on items like hot pot or appetizers, you can eat to your heart's content for under 5000 yen per person. While it's not a sushi specialty restaurant, the fish is very fresh and delicious, making it a very reasonable dining option. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This is my second visit. Whenever I pass by the front of the restaurant, it always seems to be crowded with customers. Inside, there are around 10 counter seats and sunken kotatsu-style tatami seating. The tatami area has private rooms for 6-8 people, which can be combined into a larger space for about 20 people during parties. There is another tatami area that I have not checked. This restaurant mainly serves fish dishes. I used it for a company party, and the course meal was around 5000 yen. It included sashimi, grilled fish, rolled omelette, simmered dish, tempura, and more, which filled me up. The seasonal bamboo shoot rice served at the end was also delicious, so I managed to eat that too. There is a spacious parking lot if you go by car, but if you plan to drink alcohol, the only public transportation option is the JR bus with limited services. You may need to use a taxi or a designated driver.
