Received a gift from an acquaintance. It's a sweet called "usu-koori" made from red beans, sugar, and agar. It's made by various traditional Japanese confectionery shops, but this one seems to have a higher ratio of agar. According to their website, it's made using the "Yamato-hi" ratio, a traditional Japanese ratio (1:1.414).... In this type of sweet, matcha flavor might be rare. (Or maybe I just haven't come across it before)

There were many customers on a cherry blossom viewing tour visiting the shop. It's the season for cherry blossom viewing dumplings, but I wanted to try other types as well. I found a pack with a combination of cherry blossom viewing dumplings, sakura mochi, and ohagi. I didn't miss the chance and bought it without hesitation. The cherry blossom viewing dumplings were soft and moist.

When I went to the movies, I decided to stop by a shop called "Wakaayu" and unfortunately they were sold out. I didn't want to leave empty-handed, so I bought just one "Honchidori Manju" from Momoyama. The staff kindly included tea and sweets for me, which I appreciated. Such customer service makes me want to visit again next time. Thank you for the treat.

I visited around 12:30 on a regular day. There were no other customers. The Chidori sablé tends to take on a bird shape☆ This Chidori sablé is 660 yen for 6 pieces (excluding tax), the Kamo sablé is 600 yen for 5 pieces (excluding tax), the Heianden sablé is 660 yen for 6 pieces (excluding tax), and the Hato sablé is 600 yen for 5 pieces (excluding tax). The texture is moist. It doesn't feel damp, but when eaten after the Kamo or Heianden sablé, it feels completely damp. I repeat, if eaten alone, it doesn't feel damp at all. In terms of taste (Kamo has no particular taste. Heianden has a subtle flavor with a richness that could be described as somewhat Japanese-style), in contrast, the Chidori sablé has a slight flavor to it. Judging from the comparison of the ingredients list, it may be almond powder or margarine? During payment, they served me Daigakuimo mochi and cold hojicha tea. The Daigakuimo had a surface like amber candy and was very delicious.

Sweet shop 159th♡ I bought it on a Saturday night (✽︎˙ω˙✽︎)♡ It seems to be open until 8 pm, so I was able to make a purchase (*≧∀≦*) ・Kusa-mochi, sakura-mochi 600 yen. At the time of payment, they said, "If you have time, please have some tea." So I sat down and they served me black soybean tea and Japanese sweets (´・∀︎・)♡ The black soybean tea was fragrant and very delicious♡♡ I even ate the black soybeans♡♡ The kusa-mochi had red bean paste, and the sakura-mochi had white bean paste. The red bean paste had an elegant sweetness (〃'ε'〃)♡♡ I finished it in no time♡

Thank you for getting sweets in Kyoto! Chidori sabure 10 pieces: 1080 yen. Made with special wheat flour from contract farmers in Kyushu and fragrant fermented butter, the natural flavors are emphasized. The crispy texture that spreads in your mouth is achieved by using high-quality and fresh ingredients. The adorable chidori shape, representing chidori birds flying over the inlet, is charming. The crunchy and firm texture is surprisingly delicious when bitten into. The aroma of toasted wheat flour spreads beautifully among the sweetness. This cute shape makes it a great souvenir or treat. Visit Chidoriya JR Nijo store for these delights!

I had been curious about a traditional Japanese sweets shop for a while, so I finally decided to visit. As soon as I walked in, a kind lady greeted me and offered me some black soybean tea and a quarter of a Chidori manju to enjoy on a long bench. While I sat there, she processed my payment. I ended up purchasing: Chidori manju for ¥120, Beauty Noritsuki (x2) for ¥155 each, Kurika no Sato for ¥200, Chestnut pudding for ¥505, and 8 pieces of Chidori manju for ¥1100, which came with a special wrapping paper exclusive to Chidori-ya. The sweets were for home consumption, and my personal favorite was the Beauty Noritsuki, with its perfect combination of cinnamon and Naruto sweet potato. However, it has a short shelf life, so it's not ideal for gifting. The Chestnut pudding was also quite impressive, despite its high price. When I tried it at home, it was delicious - like a traditional Japanese sweets shop's pudding. It was firm but had a strong chestnut flavor, making it very tasty. I would definitely visit again if I have the chance.

When I casually stopped by near Nijo Station, I remembered the review from My Reviewer and decided to visit. The lack of parking is a downside, but there's nothing that can be done about it. As I looked around the store, a staff member kindly offered me some tea and even some sample manju. Delicious! I couldn't help but buy some items: a box of "mitarashi mochi" (12 pieces for 650 yen), a "chestnut pudding" (530 yen), and a box of "mitarashi senbei" (380 yen). The mitarashi mochi had a soft and chewy texture with sweet mitarashi sauce inside, and I ended up eating 5-6 of them. The chestnut pudding, although in a traditional packaging, contained a large chestnut in a cup of pudding. So delightful! The mitarashi senbei were individually packed and had a gentle flavor similar to rice cracker. I will definitely use them as souvenirs. Thank you for the treat.

Chidoriya is famous for its "mitarashi dango." Unlike regular mitarashi dango where the sweet sauce is on the outside, here it is inside the dango. It's easy to eat and I like it, but what do most people think? This time, I also bought the seasonal limited "horokuri daifuku." When you break it open, there is a big chestnut inside the mochi. It definitely has a satisfying texture. The service at this shop is top-notch. While waiting for the packaging, they offered tea and recommended sweets as a service. It's a thoughtful gesture. I will definitely use this shop for gifts and souvenirs. Thank you for the meal.

I felt like having some traditional Japanese sweets, so I went to Sanjo-kaikan shopping street and stopped by "Kasho Chidoriya Soke JR Nijo Store" near Nijo Station. It is located in a building next to Nijo Station, facing Chibon Street, and it is a beautiful shop with glass windows. While waiting for the packaging of the products, they served me tea and sweets - black soybean tea and mitarashi mochi. The mitarashi mochi is like the reverse of mitarashi dango, with sweet and savory sauce inside soft mochi, making it easy to eat without getting sticky around the mouth. This shop is famous for mitarashi mochi and Chidori manju, but I chose the former this time. I bought a pack of black soybean daifuku (6 pieces) for 680 yen. It is similar to the delicious bean mochi from "Demachi Futaba" in Demachiyanagi, but slightly smaller in size. It is filled with plenty of large black beans, providing a unique texture, and the sweet bean paste is elegant in sweetness, while the mochi is soft and delicious. It was a delightful treat. In Kyoto, this place may not be very familiar, even though it's a prime location, there isn't even a store registration... Well, it's the main store in Osaka... Famous for their "Chidori Manju", but this "Mitaraoshi Kombu" is also quite popular. We call it "reverse mitaraoshi" because the mitaraoshi sauce is wrapped inside. So it's like a "reverse mitaraoshi" (laughs). It's perfect for a light souvenir. Everyone finds it amusing because of the name. But recently, many traditional Japanese sweet shops are working hard on the storefront. Rainy days, windy days, even typhoon days... they keep standing and calling out to customers. It must be a common effort to do business in Kyoto, where there are many long-established shops. Before going into the store, I took a photo of the exterior across the wide street. When I enlarged it later, it was already looking at the camera! (laughs) When I placed my order, they immediately served tea. I was so happy that I asked, "Can I take a picture of this?" and they just laughed and said, "Sure!" (laughs) Is that weird? (laughs) They served black soybean tea and a cut manju. I asked about the manju, and they said, "It's our signature dish, Chidori Manju!" "Please enjoy the black soybeans in the tea as well!" Well, I couldn't just swallow it like that (laughs). It was a fun shopping experience (laughs). When giving it as a souvenir, the words to say are, "Well, give it a try..." ===========

The recently renovated Nijo Station has become very convenient, with more shops popping up around the area. I had been curious about a traditional Japanese sweets shop for a while, and on my way home one evening, I noticed a sign advertising "wakayu" (young sweetfish), a seasonal delicacy. Despite it being close to closing time, I decided to step inside. Even though I only made a small purchase, I was pleasantly surprised to receive complimentary black bean tea and sweets, along with excellent service from the staff. The wakayu I bought exceeded my expectations. With its convenient location near the station and great service, I will definitely be coming back again.
