Today's dinner was at "Kaizen" in Koenji. For the second stop on the Koenji bar-hopping tour, we chose a specialty seafood restaurant. Standing and drinking, enjoying hoppy with yakitori. It's important to start off with delicate flavors, or else your taste buds and stomach will become numb and unable to judge later on. Among the various izakayas in the old town of Koenji, this stylish seafood restaurant stands out. The excitement builds as you descend the stairs to enter. Alongside the staircase, various shellfish are displayed in bubbling tanks. The pre-entry entertainment factor is outstanding. After having a Red Star beer at the first stop, I opted for a Chardonnay white wine. The appetizer was "boiled whelk," which paired wonderfully with the wine. I chose the "Japanese spider crab (830 yen)" that grows on rocky shores. Is it Godzilla's hand? A mole's hand? Or a frog's hand? What is this? When you separate the green claw and rough body, an orange-colored main body resembling a horseshoe crab emerges. Enjoy the salty taste of the sea. You can savor only the taste of the ingredients and nature. Next up was the "deep-fried molted crab [Japanese spider crab] (760 yen)." The tenderly fried crab is meant to be eaten in one bite. The soft shell holds a richly concentrated meat. It's really delicious. And then there's the "butter-grilled large oysters from Hirota Bay, Iwate Prefecture (350 yen)." These are huge. They are plump and juicy. The butter has a hint of soy sauce flavor. Truly delicious. The interior of the restaurant is clean, and the staff's service is excellent. It was a great restaurant experience.

I searched and visited a specialized shellfish restaurant. I tried 5 types of sashimi shellfish: red clam, hamaguri, kitamagai, scallop, and hiragai rock oyster, all from Tokushima. They also offered grilled shellfish dishes such as small pan-fried shellfish, sazae, hamaguri, and others, as well as butter-grilled shellfish and grilled kitamagai. As a shellfish lover, I was looking for a specialized restaurant. The shellfish were really fresh. They even served a delicious shellfish soup. I am grateful for that. However, I did not encounter any extraordinary shellfish. I believe the goodness of shellfish lies in their aroma, texture, and the savory taste of the sea after you bite into them. Aroma is a tricky thing. It is not just about freshness, but also about the quality and origin of the product that determine it. Today, perhaps due to the post-Obon holiday and after the typhoon, they may not have been able to offer a wide variety of dishes, so I am looking forward to the next visit with even higher expectations. The food was delicious. Thank you very much.

If you want to eat shellfish, this is the place to go! It is recommended to make a reservation, but if you're lucky you may also be able to walk in. The shellfish sashimi is exquisite, and the other menu items are equally delicious. Each dish will make you smile with satisfaction.

I had dinner here. I tried three kinds of sashimi and grilled dishes, all of which were delicious with firm texture and great flavor. The variety of drinks available is also a plus. Although not shown in the photos, the clam rice pot is perfect for finishing the meal.

I made a reservation at a restaurant in Koenji that my friend recommended. We were originally going to cancel due to a approaching typhoon, but decided to go anyway. The restaurant was close to the station and decorated with shells at the entrance. We started with a toast with beer and ordered dishes like raw clams and fried shrimp. They had about five types of sake, but only three were available in small bottles. If they had more variety of sake, we might have stayed longer, but we ended up moving to another place after about two hours.

The shellfish is delicious. All of them are delicious. I love oysters, and among those I've eaten, these are definitely in my top three. Every dish had a special touch in the seasoning and they were all delicious. I'm glad I went. I want to go again.

I visited Kaizen-san in Koenji! This is a specialty shellfish restaurant, with a huge display of shells outside the shop. You can tell they are really particular about freshness, which got me excited. We started with a toast of sake. The 5 kinds of shellfish platter included red clam, scallop, turban shell, surf clam, and mirugai. Each had a unique texture and tasted great with the sake. They even used shells to decorate the dishes, which was stylish. The oysters were delicious, both raw and cooked. The butter-grilled oysters were especially addictive. We started with Sawayoi sake and tried a few others like Nanbu Bijin and Hanayuki. The restroom even had shells for decoration, which was a nice touch. It was a wonderful restaurant, and I'm grateful to the friends who joined me.

At the storefront, shells welcome you! The appetizer is also shellfish! Even the chopstick rests are shells! The menu is all about shellfish, truly a shellfish paradise ❤️ I immediately ordered the 5 kinds of sashimi platter with live shellfish. You can get recommendations from the day's fresh catch! The presentation with the shells is so cute~ The texture of each shellfish was irresistible. Today's fresh oysters were so plump and shiny☺️ They source delicious brands according to the season. And then came the butter-grilled oysters ❤️ I wanted my skin to be as glossy as they were, they were so plump even after being cooked! Paired with the butter flavor, it was the best. The menu is full of options that go well with Japanese sake, so be careful not to drink too much haha The Japanese sake glasses were too cute, I was just swooning over them. It's nice that you get miso soup after the meal too! Thank you for the feast!

A few minutes' walk west from Koenji Station, you'll find a cozy izakaya. The journey there involves passing several charming izakayas, making it a bit of a challenge. The restaurant has a modern, open layout with a spacious feel. It's not your typical Koenji vibe, but the quality of the seafood is impressive. The sashimi made from fresh shellfish is bursting with unique textures and flavors. In addition to the sashimi, they offer delicious dishes like fried oysters and scallop gratin. While I didn't try them, I imagine their grilled and steamed shellfish must be top-notch as well. They have a great selection of sake, making it the perfect place to enjoy premium shellfish dishes while leisurely sipping on sake.

About a 5-minute walk from Koenji Station. Walking down a lively street, you'll find Kaio no Andon, a restaurant specializing in shellfish. The menu is all about shellfish - raw, grilled, steamed, you name it. The sashimi is fresh and perfect for shellfish lovers. Pair it with some sake and you're all set. I had a great time indulging in various shellfish like turban shells, mirugai, ark shells, clams, and oysters. It was a satisfying meal! Thank you for the feast! ^_^

I went to a restaurant in Koenji where you can eat delicious shellfish. The interior of the restaurant is bright and the customers are mostly young. It was surprising to see many young people at a shellfish restaurant. It has a new and fresh atmosphere.
- 5 kinds of fresh shellfish sashimi, they don't use frozen ones so it's really fresh!! The surf clams, red clams, scallops, and whelks were fresh and chewy, very delicious! They went well with sake.
- Fresh oysters
- Shirako (milt) with ponzu sauce, it was more tender and fresh than usual.
- Fried oysters, big and juicy, it was amazing!
- Steamed mixed shellfish, 4 kinds of steamed shellfish in a delicious broth, it was so tasty. There were clams and other shellfish with unique names. I wanted to eat ramen with the broth, haha.
- Oyster hot pot, waited for 40 minutes. The flavor of the oysters soaked in and it was deep and delicious until the end. I want to come back to this restaurant. Thank you for the meal!

On a Saturday in December 2022, I visited Koenji. While wandering around the bustling Koenji North Exit area with plenty of bars, I stumbled upon a promising restaurant called "Kaizen." It opened in 2016 and specializes in shellfish. Although "Abu-san" is more famous for shellfish in Koenji, Kaizen seems to have a more approachable atmosphere and pricing. The owner mentioned that it's best to make reservations on weekends, as the place tends to get busy. I ordered Asahi Super Dry draft beer, umeshu sour, sake, assorted shellfish sashimi, ginkgo nuts, potato salad, fried oysters, oyster butter, scallop sashimi, large clams, farmed abalone, and vongole bianco. The quality of the seafood was excellent, and it paired well with the sake. The total bill for two people was 12,430 yen. Despite not being cheap, I felt satisfied with the experience. Thank you for the meal!

We made a reservation and visited around 6:00 pm on a weekday. The restaurant was empty when we arrived, but it quickly filled up with reserved guests. It's clear that this place is popular. During this season, oysters are a must! We had fresh oysters, fried oysters, and oyster ajillo. We also tried a variety of other dishes, all of which were delicious! They have a wide selection of sake, which I think would be irresistible for those who love shellfish.

An izakaya specializing in shellfish where you can enjoy fresh shellfish dishes. They offer a variety of delicious ways to eat shellfish, from chewy sashimi to flavorful ahi-jo. The menu includes some unique items like turtle's hands, which was quite interesting. It brought back nostalgic memories of playing by the seashore as a child.

The storefront is filled with a large quantity of live shellfish, which gets you excited. Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted with a delightful aroma of shellfish and a lively atmosphere. This time, I enjoyed a variety of shellfish dishes such as a sashimi platter, fresh oysters, fried oysters, and steamed clams, all of which were fresh, delicious, and satisfying. I definitely want to come back to this restaurant again. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Because it's a specialty shop for shellfish, I wonder if it's called "Kaizen." I've been eyeing this shop for a while now. I consider myself a bit of an oddball since I prefer shellfish over fish. The restaurant is fully booked, with many groups of young women or couples. It seems like there are a lot of people who like shellfish here, which is reassuring. Japanese sake is also popular here. The delicate flavors of shellfish and Japanese sake must go well together. The shellfish are scooped from the live case outside and taken to the kitchen after ordering. I love shellfish, especially the texture. They have a good bite and delicate flavors with depth. The dream-like two hours were more than satisfying. The "monster of the Reiwa era," the king of oysters, is from Ofunato Bay. Is that why it has that spirit of Ofunato? Speaking of which, I realized on my way back from Ofunato, how clueless I am. I'm looking forward to seeing Sasaki Akira, the pitcher from Ofunato High School, in his second year in the pros. Let's go back there again with hopes of seeing him on the mound in the first team.

I made a reservation through GoTo EAT and visited the restaurant. It is located in a shopping street a short walk from Koenji Station North Exit. The restaurant has a small entrance with lots of shells displayed. Inside, there are about 6 counter seats and 4 table seats. It's not very spacious but cozy. The appetizer is simmered shellfish and it's delicious. The assorted sashimi platter includes red clam, whelk, scallop, flat shell, and Ishigaki clam. They are all thick and fresh. The red clam is sweet and crunchy, while the whelk has a great texture. The platter for two costs 2400 yen. There are two types of soy sauce available, sweet soy sauce from Kyushu and regular soy sauce. The raw oyster is large and creamy, very delicious at 580 yen each. The potato salad has a tangy taste, maybe vinegar or mustard? The shellfish ajillo costs 1000 yen and comes with baguettes that you can order as many as you like for 50 yen each. The oyster gratin is cheesy and creamy, very tasty. Sake is served in small decanters with about 5 types available for 700 yen per cup. Lastly, the complimentary miso soup was a nice touch. The shellfish here is incredibly fresh and delicious, a must-visit for shellfish lovers.

The storefront has a Showa retro atmosphere, which is very calming. However, the shop is new and comfortable, having opened just a few years ago! The chopstick rests are made from shells, giving a handmade feel. The sake is served in cute little kettles! You can also choose your own sake cup, which is fun! Some dishes take time to prepare, but it's nice to enjoy the atmosphere and sake while waiting. Ordering the hot pot and rice in advance was a good decision. The shellfish are all fresh and delicious. I really enjoyed it! I would love to visit this restaurant again! Follow me on Instagram at [y.catherine.y].

There are few restaurants specializing in shellfish dishes in Tokyo. The only one I know is Hamaguri in Shinjuku. Surprisingly, there is a shellfish specialty restaurant in Koenji. It is located in the Nakadori Shotengai shopping street. The restaurant is semi-basement with a tank of live shellfish at the entrance, which is irresistible for shellfish lovers. I was intrigued by the "Reiwa Monster" oyster, priced at 690 yen each. It is a brand oyster from Akasaki, Iwate, with a very large and rich flavor. It is delicious and worth trying for oyster lovers. They also offer a mixed grill of shellfish, available in large and small sizes. I ordered the small one, which included three types of shellfish: princess sazae, hamaguri, and honbinosu? Shellfish is not only great as sashimi, but also delicious when grilled as it brings out the umami flavor. They also have red clam yukhoe and a variety of snacks to go with drinks.

I only know the typical types of shellfish you find at sushi restaurants, but this place has a variety of shellfish that you don't see often elsewhere. One that surprised me was the turtle shellfish, which really looks like a turtle's hand. It looks a bit intimidating, but once you peel off the thin outer skin, it's actually a tasty shellfish. Still, the familiar scallop is delicious as always! Baked in its shell with natural juices and a bit of butter, then adding sake to the remaining broth to drink is just... addictive. It's interesting, so it might be nice to bring someone who loves shellfish. Thank you for the meal!
