Number of Seats
15 seats
(Counter seating available, table seating available. Lunch: 15 seats. 9 seats for night business, counter only)
Located in the local shopping street of Ojama Demachiyanagi, this restaurant is open from 6 pm and requires reservations. It has counter seats and the service is efficient despite being run by one person. There were two other groups starting at the same time. The regular customers have been coming here for 16 years. The portion size depends on the individual, and the menu can be customized. You can also add items individually, allowing for a lot of flexibility. Everything was delicious, visually appealing, reasonably priced, and I was very satisfied.

I was lucky enough to have lunch at a cute restaurant with a lovely atmosphere from the outside! It seems difficult to get in without a reservation, as people who came later were turned away. You have to take off your shoes before entering the restaurant. I was seated at a table and eagerly looked at the menu. To my delight, they served Ebisu beer for adults! The chopstick rest was shaped like the character "ro" and was so cute! The bento box was brought out, and I was impressed! Each dish was labeled on the menu, so I could see what each one was as I savored them one by one. First, on the top row: 1. Stir-fried water spinach with dried shrimp - a great combination! 2. Eggplant simmered with ginger - a gentle flavor. 3. Tomato with vinegar miso dressing - a surprising but delicious combination! 4. Stir-fried purple yam with bonito flakes - mild and tasty! 5. Okra with silk tofu - a unique dish! 6. Cucumber with seaweed vinegar dressing - so tasty! 7. Sesame tofu tempura - crispy and delicious! 8. Onion simmered with dried fish - a perfect balance of sweetness and flavor. Next, on the second row: 9. Rice cooked in a clay pot - delicious rice! 10. Summer vegetable tempura - crispy and tasty! 11. Rolled omelet with sweet soy sauce - comforting and satisfying. 12. Miso soup - a perfect match for the delicious rice. I was so full after enjoying a variety of ingredients prepared in various ways, all for only 1400 yen! This lunch was perfect for adults who want to try a little bit of everything.

I made a reservation in advance and visited at lunchtime. The seats were already full with reservations alone. The two-tiered bento box had plenty of summer delights like cold appetizers and hot tempura. Each dish was carefully made and very delicious. The rice also had crispy bits. The cooking was perfect. I definitely want to come back. Thank you for the meal!

This restaurant has been popular for a long time, so I was lucky to be able to secure a reservation. The small restaurant can accommodate only 10 people, but they serve a variety of homemade vegetable dishes that made me impressed with the different cooking methods. The gentle seasoning was truly outstanding. You can enjoy various flavors little by little, but some dishes made me wish for more. The rice with crispy crust was so delicious. They offer unlimited refills, but I had to resist (well, because I ran out of side dishes). Although many customers without reservations are turned away, it seemed like they were almost always fully booked. I hope they can continue running the restaurant for a long time without pushing themselves too hard.

It was quite difficult to make a reservation, but I finally managed to get one this time and visited the restaurant. The nearest station is Keihan Demachiyanagi Station. It is located slightly off the Masugata shopping street. It's a sign of its popularity. Many customers keep coming in, and those without reservations were all turned away. This time, I ordered a bento box. It came with 2 main dishes and 8 side dishes. The seasoning is light, typical of Kyoto flavors. The small portions surprisingly filled me up. It's a nice way to experience the subtle flavors of Kyoto and the atmosphere of an old Japanese house.

If you want to experience a cozy and elegant time in Kyoto, this is the place. The small dishes of reliable Kyoto vegetables are truly cute and delicious. The rice is carefully divided for each person, making the texture enjoyable. Phone reservation required.

The restaurant I was interested in for lunch during my trip to Kyoto. I was able to enter the restaurant on the day by making a last-minute reservation, but it seems difficult without a reservation. The overall taste is gentle, and it's nice that you can have various leafy vegetables. The rice portion is small from the beginning, so you must have seconds! Since there is also Shimogamo Shrine in Demachiyanagi, having lunch while visiting the shrine is a good plan.

Visited around 1:30 PM on August 21st (Sunday) and received a treat this time, so I will refrain from rating. This place has become one of my favorites! It seems to be getting more popular, with reservations required. However, it appears that the mini kaiseki lunch that used to be available is no longer offered, but the bento box was satisfying enough! It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

I made a reservation for my favorite lunch here before the Mitarashi Festival at Shimogamo Shrine. Even though it's a weekday, it was fully booked today. The vegetables are fresh and delicious, with a gentle seasoning that doesn't contain anything unhealthy. The dashi in all the dishes is so tasty that I can drink it all up! Especially the rolled omelette is truly my favorite flavor. I wish I could replicate this taste at home and eat it every day! It's impossible, though... After this, I plan to have Mitarashi dango in the shrine grounds and finish with some honey bean paste from the honeybees on my way back, so I decided to skip the refill of the clay pot rice. I wish there was a restaurant like this nearby so I could come every week. I will visit again soon. Thank you for the meal!

This was my first solo trip to Kyoto for one night and two days! I tried calling to make a reservation several times, but couldn't get one. However, I was able to get a reservation at the last minute when there was availability. The vegetables were fresh and delicious, and the broth and seasonings were all healthy and had a gentle taste. The restaurant was fully booked, but a few walk-in customers were turned away. Reservations are a must. I will definitely come back here again. If I have the chance, I would love to eat here as many times as possible! The atmosphere and service at the restaurant were very pleasant, and I think my friends would also enjoy it if I brought them here. I will visit again. Thank you for the meal.

We visited without a reservation around 12:30 on a regular day and were able to get a seat until 1:30. We enjoyed the vegetables from Ohara's farm in small dishes. The rice was cooked in an earthenware pot, and we could enjoy the crispy rice at the bottom. Refills were free. The tempura and dashimaki were delicious, and I ended up getting another bowl of rice. It was delicious and enjoyable. It might be better to make a reservation for three or more people.

I went to the area near Demachiyanagi, which was rare for me. I had planned to go to Demachi Futaba while I was in Demachiyanagi, but unfortunately they were closed. It's important to do proper research before going out. Since Demachi Futaba was closed, I decided to go to Matsuigatayakiya, which I remembered as being delicious from before. However, they were unexpectedly closed as well! I'm not sure if it was just that day or due to the current social situation, but it was a double failure! Finally, I decided to go to Rororo-san, a place I had been wanting to try. Luckily, I managed to get the last seat. I felt bad for those who had to wait after me, but I enjoyed various dishes. The detailed menu was helpful in remembering what I had ordered. I particularly liked the clay pot rice and the early spring tempura. By the way, you can have unlimited refills of the clay pot rice. The restaurant was mainly filled with women, and there was a constant flow of customers.

I was asked if I was okay with a bento box, and I nodded without really knowing what to expect. But it turned out to be such a wonderful meal. The tempura was freshly fried and crispy, not just pre-made. It also came with rice and miso soup. I heard that if you make a reservation, you can add fish or other options. The entrance is a bit hard to find as it's tucked away in a side street off a lively shopping district. This place is located near Demachiyanagi, which is a gateway to areas like Kibune, Kurama, and Mt. Hiei, so I definitely want to visit again.

The healthy vegetable-centered dishes were delicious. In particular, the fried sesame tofu was incredibly tasty with a creamy inside! The infection prevention measures were also perfect, with groups seated at a distance from each other, allowing for a worry-free dining experience.

I visited here around 12:20 on May 28th (Friday). Last time I came without a reservation and they were full, so this time I made sure to reserve in advance! Although a bento box would have been enough, I decided to go for the lunch mini kaiseki since it was a special occasion. The menu had a variety of dishes, all of which were delicious, but the standout was the seven-flavor seaweed served as a side dish! The ocean scent and spicy seven-flavor seasoning were just perfect. The rice was cooked in a clay pot and had crispy bits at the bottom! You can ask for seconds! It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

Let's enjoy lunch in Kyoto strategy. So, where should we eat? I chose a restaurant that I had bookmarked before. This time, I feel like eating Japanese cuisine. The restaurant is located a little off the retro Demachiyanagi shopping street. We enter the store, get our temperature checked, take off our shoes, and sit down. First, we order a draft beer. Cheers! While waiting for the lunch box to arrive, we enjoy ourselves. Soon, the lunch box appears. It has two tiers, with rice and miso soup served separately. The first tier has eight side dishes, and the second tier has two side dishes and rice. Oh, and you can have unlimited rice. Let's start with the side dishes on the first tier. They are well seasoned, with a rich flavor. They go well with alcohol. After the beer, we eat the rice and finish it all. We made a reservation for this day, but several groups without reservations were turned away. If you want to eat for sure, reservations are a must. You can make a reservation even if you are dining alone.

Visited for lunch on 12/6 (Sun). I was worried about being able to get in around 1:30, but managed to get in without a reservation. Right after that, they were already sold out, so I was just in time! It seemed like they were not allowing too many customers in for COVID-19 measures. I felt safe dining there. For lunch, they only offer bento boxes. There is a choice of Ichinosen (1st box) with 8 kinds of obanzai, and Ninosen (2nd box) with rice in a pot, tempura, rolled omelette, and miso soup. Each dish allowed you to enjoy the taste of the ingredients. I didn't have many opportunities to eat traditional Kyoto-style cuisine during this trip, so it was a gentle and delicious taste. It seems that the variety of obanzai changes depending on the season, so I would like to try it again in a different season. I think it's better to make a reservation before going.

Before GoToTravel, I used to make reservations for dinner after a memorial service. It is a hidden gem that is recommended to book early. It's a shop near Demachi Futaba, a famous shop for Daifuku mochi. You can choose the number of dishes depending on how hungry you are. Each dish is around 500 yen (excluding tax), with a maximum of 9 dishes. I highly recommend ordering the appetizers. The fried eggplant, sesame tofu, and simmered purple yam all have different seasonings. The soup with eel and mushrooms is subtly flavored and delicious. It's not matsutake mushrooms, but it's still very tasty. I skipped the sashimi because there was only one type of fish, but the burdock root and other accompaniments looked delicious. The grilled dish was probably Isaki fish, and the peanuts, kabocha squash, and sesame sauce were impressive and also very tasty. The walnut rice cake dumplings in a thickened sauce are fragrant and a must-try. The scallop and purple vinegar miso salad looked vibrant. The burnt rice in the clay pot was amazing. The miso soup with celery root was refreshing and innovative. The rice accompaniments include shredded dried fish, bonito with sake lees, and more. I didn't plan to order dessert, but my daughter insisted, so we ended up ordering it. The disc-shaped Chin-suko cookies, dumplings made with Hattai flour, raw caramel, Yomeishu and milk pudding, etc., are full of originality. It's a Japanese restaurant that offers challenging and tasteful dishes with a craftsman's touch. They have reduced the number of seats significantly, so make your reservation early. (The draft beer was not great, so sake or shochu might be a better choice)

I happened to come across this shop and was curious about it, so I made a phone reservation for a Rororo bento and visited. The Kyoto-style dishes had a gentle flavor, and the rice cooked in a clay pot was delicious with the crispy bottom part.

I heard there is a delicious Japanese restaurant in Demachiyanagi, so I decided to visit. The restaurant is located in a renovated old townhouse with a retro and charming exterior. I like this Kyoto-like atmosphere. You have to take off your shoes at the entrance and enter the restaurant. With only about 10 seats including counter and tables, it is recommended to make a reservation in advance. On this day, several walk-in customers were turned away. For lunch, you can choose between a bento box or a set meal. We ordered the "rororo bento" for 1320 yen. The bento box came with a menu list, which was nice. The contents included: - Chinese spinach with dried shrimp - Tomato with sansho pepper - Eggplant with seaweed - Onion simmered with dried fish - Potato with ginger - Cucumber with lemon mayonnaise - Sesame tofu with deep-fried kelp - Okra with dried small fish - Rice cooked in a clay pot - Summer tempura with black pepper sauce - Miso soup. They also allow rice refills, so it's a good amount for men. Being able to try various dishes in small portions is a bonus for women. I recommend this place for those who want to enjoy delicious Japanese cuisine. Thank you for the meal!
