After watching the Gion Festival float procession, I walked from Gojo to Higashiyama in search of my favorite noodle shop this summer. I arrived at a noodle shop called "Itchan Ramen" where reggae music was playing. The atmosphere there is just so nice. I took a seat next to the water server just like last time. There was a Jamaican poster with the letters ICNRMN on it. Looking at the menu, last time I had the popular "Jerk Chicken Ramen Spicy Coconut", so this time I decided to try the "Tomato Cold Noodles" with avocado. The kitchen is run by the owner alone. The interior of the noodle shop always surprises me, it doesn't look like a typical noodle shop counter at all (laughs). After waiting for a few minutes, a beautifully colorful bowl, chilled to perfection, was served. This is definitely going to be delicious! When viewed horizontally, the unique toppings surround the mountain of noodles in the center. Tomato puree topped with Genovese sauce, with a slice of lemon perched on top, looks refreshing. The generous slices of avocado are a welcome addition. And for just 100 yen more, it's definitely worth it! Basil leaves are also served as they are. At this point, it looks like cold pasta. Cream cheese is shredded and generously added, scattered around. At the bottom of the bowl, you can see a tomato-based soup with a refreshing acidity. When I slurped the chewy medium-thin noodles, I thought, "This is so delicious!" It's a fusion of Korean cold noodles and Italian flavors. The chewy medium-thin noodles and the tomato-based soup go perfectly together, with hints of cheese aroma! If you look closely, there's cheddar cheese scattered all over. When you enjoy the tomato and cheese together, you can feel a refreshing Italian breeze. Of course, the chewy noodles and cream cheese complement each other perfectly! Enjoy the rich umami and acidity with the basil. Even when you eat the tomato and cheddar cheese with the chewy noodles, there's no sense of discomfort at all. Excellent! Squeezing the lemon enhances the freshness. It's an exquisite harmony of different acidity. Taking a bite of avocado and cheese together guarantees deliciousness even before you eat it. It's fascinating! The noodles served here have all achieved a perfect fusion. They retain the original goodness of each ingredient while imagining new flavors with an exquisite balance. I'll definitely come back!

After drinking, I had a craving for ramen. I found a ramen shop in Higashiyama and logged in. The interior of the shop is Ragga style. The music is Reggae. The menu is Ragga style too. I saw the "Spicy Coconut Ramen ¥950" and it looked delicious, so I decided to order it right away. The white soup is coconut-based with a lime on top. Squeezing the lime and mixing it in creates a unique flavor. Inside, there was jerk chicken. What a combination. You might think, "Coconut in ramen with jerk chicken and lime, is that really tasty?" But surprisingly, the jerk seasoning and coconut-based ramen soup go really well together. Add in tomatoes and green onions... I can't explain it, you just have to try it to understand! I want to go back again. Big up!

At first glance, the storefront gives off a vibe of a ramen shop. The Nest color scheme and reggae style atmosphere are unique and very nice. They offer both traditional ramen and ramen infused with elements of reggae culture. The noodles were from Teigaku and were very good. Thank you for the meal.

I was working in the Higashiyama area of Kyoto and looking for a lunch spot. I saw a yellow sign from Sanjo Street that seemed to be a restaurant, so I decided to check it out. It looked like a ramen shop, which is usually a safe bet in this touristy area. However, when I entered, the entrance had a Jamaican vibe. Inside, the staff was playing reggae music. I was a bit surprised, but when I looked at the menu, I saw "Ichiban Ramen," which seemed quite traditional. Then I noticed the words "Jerk Chicken Ramen." Ah, that explains the Jamaican theme. Should I go for the safe option of Ichiban Ramen, or try the unique Jerk Chicken Ramen with the owner's personal touch? In the end, I went for the completely unrelated Tomato Ramen. I love Tomato Ramen ever since trying it at "Ramen Taro" in Kobe. So far, Taro's version remains my favorite, but the Tomato Ramen here was also quite delicious. It had a wild twist to it, but the acidity and sweetness of the tomato broth paired well with the Jerk Chicken topping. This experience made me excited to try their other ramen dishes in the future.

Jerk chicken ramen + char siu rice bowl. I came here for the first time in 4 years. I was drawn to the uniqueness of the jerk chicken ramen that other places don't have. It's a bit of a walk from the main station, but it's a recommended restaurant. I haven't been here for a while, so I ordered the jerk chicken that was delicious last time. Although I'm also interested in coconut and curry, I've only tried the jerk chicken (laughs). Even though there is no Jamaican atmosphere, squeezing lime over the chicken gives it a foreign feel. And it's easy to eat. It's a little bit away from the town center, but I recommend it to ramen lovers.

Today I had work at Kyoto Zoo. When I got off at Keage Station and looked up at the Lake Biwa Canal, I saw colorful autumn leaves...so elegant. At lunchtime, unfortunately it was raining, but the popular Marushin restaurant had a line of over 20 people! I wonder if there would have been around 50 people lining up if it hadn't been raining. I changed my plans and went to Ichiban Ramen nearby, where there was a huge contrast between the outside and inside of the restaurant, it was chaotic with loud music playing, Jamaican flags, and other things. Also, both of the customers inside were foreign Westerners, which was funny. While overwhelmed by the atmosphere inside the restaurant, I ordered the mini chashu rice and Ichiban Ramen set. There were two chefs, and the owner was big! The waitress was an old lady, maybe the owner's mother? The contrast between Jamaica and the old lady was also amazing. The Ichiban Ramen was like a salt ramen with a sesame flavor that was good, and the texture of the menma was good, and the chashu was delicious. The mini chashu rice was lighter than it looked. I finished with a TKG. This set cost 900 yen, which is reasonable! Thank you for the meal!

Located a 2-minute walk from Higashiyama Station, this ramen shop received a visit rating of 3.50 in September 2022. Today's meal during my part-time job break was here. I always passed by the shop, but the Jamaican-style appearance made it seem a bit intimidating to enter. It had a different vibe from a typical ramen shop. As soon as I entered, the shop was filled with reggae-like deep bass BGM welcoming me. The powerful sound, similar to the drumbeats heard during festivals, resonated in my chest. So, how was the ramen? I decided to try the classic "Ittchan Ramen" this time. The soup was surprisingly sweet, but it didn't feel unpleasant, it was a mysterious kind of soup. The thin noodles slid smoothly, and combined with the mild sweetness of the soup, it went down quite well. The chashu was also light and had an elegant taste typical of Kyoto. Despite the shop's unassuming exterior, there was a gentle touch in the flavors. The other menu items looked very impressive visually. I will challenge the unique ramen next time I visit. The Silver Week holiday meant everywhere was crowded with people. Hopefully, Kyoto will soon benefit from the inbound tourism, although we must address the issue of pollution that comes with it. Thank you for the meal!

There is a chicken chashu restaurant, but I don't know of any other place with jerk chicken. The interior doesn't look like a ramen shop, with reggae music playing and a chaotic atmosphere. However, the ramen is really good. This time, I tried the Jerk Chicken Ramen SPICY CURRY (SC-JCR) for the first time. It wasn't too spicy, but I couldn't stop sweating. It goes well with Teigaku's noodles. It was really delicious. Toppings include green onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, and chicken seasoned with flavorful spices and herbs. A truly distinctive and interesting bowl of ramen that stands out from the usual options. I had the black ramen. I ordered set B. When I soaked the boiled egg in the ramen, the white part turned black (lol). The soup was lighter than I expected but still flavorful. The background music in the restaurant was reggae from Jamaica. The complimentary kelp was delicious, Kyoto-style.

A ramen shop that doesn't seem like a typical ramen shop. I tried their Jerk Chicken Ramen. It's a unique dish with delicious chicken and good soup. However, it lacks a sense of unity. I don't feel like going back for more.

I had been interested in this restaurant for a while, but I couldn't visit it until recently when I started moving around Kyoto city by bicycle. When I parked my beloved bike in front of the restaurant and entered, Jamaican music was playing, creating a very unique atmosphere. I sat at the counter and looked at the menu, where I noticed they had something called "Jerk Chicken Ramen"! Although I was curious about it, I decided to try their Ichiban Ramen Set A (ramen with char siu rice bowl and egg for 850 yen) to get a taste of their default flavor. You could choose from raw, boiled, or onsen egg, and I chose the onsen egg this time. The ramen that arrived had a slightly cloudy soy sauce broth with sesame floating on the surface. When I tasted the soup, it was very gentle in flavor. It was a blend of chicken and pork bone broth, with a unique mellow taste. The umami was solid but not overpowering. The first bite might not be very impactful, but as you eat more, you can appreciate the depth of the soup's flavor. The straight medium-thin noodles had a chewy texture that complemented the soup well. The thinly sliced char siu pork had a well-balanced seasoning and various textures to enjoy. Even though the portion of the char siu rice bowl in the set might be a bit small if ordered separately, it paired perfectly with the ramen and was very delicious. They also have menu items like Black Ramen and other types of ramen, but I look forward to trying the Jerk Chicken Ramen next time I visit.

After the end of the state of emergency due to the coronavirus, I finally visited Itchan, a ramen shop I had been wanting to try based on a recommendation from a ramen enthusiast friend. The shop was being run by the master alone, and it was nice and cool inside thanks to the air conditioning. Without hesitation, I ordered the Jerk Chicken Ramen. As I waited, I took a closer look at the menu and learned that "jerk" refers to marinating ingredients in spices and herbs. Soon enough, the Jerk Chicken Ramen arrived. It had a clear soup with diced tomatoes, bell peppers, green onions, white onions, and a slice of lime on top, along with pieces of chicken marinated in spices and herbs. First, I tried the soup, which had a hint of spices, a touch of acidity, and a rich chicken flavor that filled my mouth. It was refreshing yet full of umami, a soup like nothing I had ever tasted before. The noodles were medium-thin, firm, straight noodles that were cooked just right and mixed well with the soup. The crispy texture of the bell peppers and the acidity of the tomatoes added extra layers of flavor, and squeezing the lime enhanced the freshness and acidity even more. Of course, the Jerk Chicken also added a nice touch with its spiced and marinated acidity. I now understand why everyone recommends this ramen. It's a ramen that I've never had before but one that I definitely want to eat again. I'll be back for sure. Thank you for the meal!

I was on the verge of becoming a lunchtime refugee, but I found this place and jumped in. I ordered a set meal which came with rice and a boiled egg. When my ramen arrived, it didn't have the egg. I waited anxiously for a few minutes, and then the egg arrived along with the rice. I added the boiled egg to my ramen, but I wondered if I should have gotten a raw or soft-boiled egg for the rice instead. I was a bit flustered so I just went with a regular ramen, but the two young people sitting next to me ordered the "Ichiban Ramen" which was the specialty of the shop. There were also options like garlic-infused ramen and black ramen, which made me wonder if this place was influenced by New Fukucho or the style of ramen from Toyama. The ramen had a strong flavor but wasn't overpowering. It was delicious. After finishing the ramen, I added the soup to the rice. The egg was warm and tasty. Towards the end, I tried adding the two types of chili peppers from the table, and it turned out to be quite good. Just be careful not to add too much. Overall, the meal was excellent. Thank you for the delicious food. By the way, when I was in high school, my nickname was also "Ichiban." Thank you for the meal!

Suddenly, as if remembering something, I was drawn to the unique deliciousness that "Itchan Ramen" near Higashiyama Sanjo has. Even before entering the restaurant, you can hear reggae music playing, which is quite unexpected for a ramen shop. Every time I mention this, the owner is a classmate of Ayumi Sugimoto from junior high school, known as "Ishii-san," hence the name "Itchan Ramen." The menu offers traditional soy sauce ramen, the beloved "Itchan Ramen," Aburakasu ramen, Jamaican Jerk Chicken ramen, Tomato ramen, and more. Although I had planned to always order the original "Itchan Ramen" that I have become addicted to, today I wanted to try a different menu item. Despite wanting to try it many times before, I always ended up ordering the "Itchan Ramen" without fail. So today, I decided to order the No. 1 repeat rate item, the "Jerk Chicken Ramen (800 yen)" without tomatoes! The attractive lunch set (+100 yen) was still available, so I ordered the A set (Chashu rice bowl + egg) with an onsen egg. The color of the ladle was Jamaican, so I pondered which one to choose based on my mood today while waiting for the ramen to arrive. After a while, the Jerk Chicken Ramen arrived, with a clear salt (or white soy sauce?) broth topped with jerk chicken, paprika, chopped green onions, white onions, and lime. At the same time, the Chashu rice bowl and onsen egg from the set also arrived. Only +100 yen! I tasted the salt (or white soy sauce?) broth, and the aroma of spices wafted through my nose, along with the flavor and umami of chicken broth spreading in my mouth. The mild salt (or white soy sauce?) base had a complex flavor with a hint of spice at first, creating a wonderful harmony that was incredibly delicious! It had a more mysterious soup than Itchan Ramen, with the complexity of the spice aroma changing with each passing moment, becoming more and more delicious and addictive! The straight thin noodles had a supple texture with a smooth and pleasant throat feel, blending well with the soup and tasting incredibly delicious! The main topping, jerk chicken, was marinated chicken thigh meat seasoned with spices and herbs, with a moist texture that released concentrated meat umami as you chew. The aroma of spices and herbs was incredibly pleasant, and when combined with the soup, it was extremely delicious! As time passed, the aroma of spices and herbs from the jerk chicken melted into the soup, transforming it more and more, which was irresistible! Additionally, the paprika, chopped green onions, and white onions played their roles perfectly in terms of flavor and texture, creating a great overall experience! Squeezing the lime halfway through transformed the soup into a refreshing one instantly, and it was so delicious! The soup changing over time like this was quite rare and enjoyable! I quickly finished the unique soup that became more addictive with each sip. This soup with its addictive quality explains why it has the highest repeat rate and possesses a magical power that makes you suddenly crave it. I was thoroughly satisfied and delighted! Thank you for the wonderful meal!

Met up with Ishii-chan after a long time and had Abura Kasu Soba and Jerk Chicken together. The Abura Kasu Soba had a slightly sweet taste from the dashi made with kelp and fish bones, but the various spices gave it an ethnic flavor. The noodles were made with whole grain flour and had a nice chewy texture. Mixing them with the Abura Kasu was delicious. As for the Jerk Chicken, it was topped with homemade spicy sauce and ketchup. I'm a fan of spicy food, but I couldn't bring myself to eat the habanero directly. The spicy sauce wasn't too hot, so I added some chili pepper and chili oil for extra flavor. Lastly, Ishii-chan's mom sent us a treat. Thank you!

Known for its combination of ramen and reggae music, Ichiban Ramen in Kyoto is a popular spot that relocated to its current location in 2009. I had been wanting to visit this ramen shop for a while, intrigued by its unique offerings. I arrived at around 9 pm and found a cozy interior with both counter and table seating, where reggae music was playing. I ordered the SPICY COCONUT ramen for 850 yen. The ramen arrived, featuring thin straight noodles that were deliciously firm and slightly stretchy. The soup had a distinctively light and unique flavor, blending the mellow sweetness of coconut with a spicy kick - a truly interesting combination! The texture and aroma of the nuts, as well as the nice touch of lime acidity, added to the deliciousness of the soup. The topping of jerk chicken was fragrant, spicy, juicy, and had a great texture. It was a tasty meal overall! I also tried the jerk chicken ramen, which had its own unique character. As a reggae music lover, I was thrilled to hear tracks by Tarrus Riley and Super Cat playing, which added to the lively atmosphere. It was a satisfying dining experience.

I went to a ramen shop near Heian Jingu for work. Tired of eating bento, I decided to try a nearby ramen shop that caught my eye - JCR. I have a special fondness for mushrooms, so I ordered the JCR ramen for ¥750. The JCR stands for Jerk Chicken Ramen, where the ingredients are marinated with spices. The soup was clear like Tom Yum Kung, with vibrant vegetables adding color. The noodles were thin and straight, typical of ramen. The soup had a unique blend of sweetness and spices, with a hint of oil and mild acidity, reminiscent of Tom Yum Kung. I found it quite addictive and enjoyed adding lime juice and chili pepper for extra flavor. The chicken in the ramen was the highlight for me, with a charred, spicy flavor similar to Tandoori chicken. It was flavorful and satisfying. Overall, I was impressed by the unique taste of JCR ramen in Kyoto and would definitely go back again. The price was reasonable at ¥750, which I believe is a good value for the quality and taste offered.

I visited around 12:15 on a weekday. I was able to sit down right away. It was non-smoking from 11:30 to 13:30, so I was able to come. - Jerk Chicken Ramen 750 yen: It was a very fragrant ramen. The soup, noodles, and various toppings matched well. It looked hard to enter from the outside, but I'm glad I had the courage to go in. - Gyoza (Hamtaro's Gyoza) 350 yen: It had a classic taste and was delicious. I wonder if they serve gyoza with wings at Hamtaro's. I'm curious about the tomato one too, and I want to come back to eat again.

Previously, I used to visit this shop near Kuzuno Ooji quite often when it first opened. It has been relocated to a different location a while ago, but I hadn't visited since then. I decided to go see the owner after a long time. This owner is quite famous in the Kyoto reggae scene. I asked for the ramen I had enjoyed before, but they said it's not available anymore. So, I ordered the most similar ramen they had, which was soy sauce ramen. The noodles were straight with a low water content, and the soup had the Kyoto ramen flavor. The toppings included chashu, menma, and chopped green onions. It might have been a bit different from what I had before, but I realized that they have evolved in various ways. I think next time, I will try their most innovative dish.
