The ramen, set meals, and side dishes are plentiful. This time I chose the "Mini Yakiniku Don Set Meal". The ramen in the set meal is the classic "Kassai Ramen". You can choose to combine it with other ramen for an additional fee. The soup, made from pork bones, chicken bones, and vegetables, is light yet flavorful, and strangely addictive. The yakiniku bowl (seen in the 5th photo) turned out to be made with beef instead of pork. Thank you for the delicious meal. #GratefulforLife

Today, I went to Ramen Kassai, a historic ramen restaurant with all-day service and a spacious parking lot, as it seemed like I wouldn't be able to go home anytime soon. I had the Taiwan Ramen, which was delicious. The slippery Tianjin rice looked beautiful. Ramen Kassai is located at 27 Kitoro-cho, Fukakusa, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture.

Mini Tianjin rice set meal: 1,150 yen
Applause Ramen + Mini Tianjin rice (Ramen is rich and with extra green onions)
It's been a while since my last visit. I ordered the set meal with a little greed. The Applause Ramen is simple, with straight thin noodles, chashu, menma, and chopped green onions. Although I chose rich soup, it didn't feel that rich, but rather had a good balance of soy sauce flavor and saltiness. People who prefer light flavors might find it "salty." And then the Tianjin rice. I was completely fooled by the word "mini." Where's the mini in this! It was delicious though (laughs). By the way, I heard that the sauce for Tianjin rice differs between Kansai and Kanto regions. This sauce is what is known as "soy sauce sauce." I wonder how it is in Kanto. I'm full. Thank you for the meal!

"Hakusai Ramen with Flavored Egg. I came to Kyoto for the national competition and decided to go on a ramen tour. The taste of this pork bone, chicken broth, and vegetable soup is familiar yet not commonly found in Kanto region, so it brought back nostalgic feelings (maybe because of the green onions). The firm noodles, flavorful soup, and green onions complement each other well, and even though it's not a chashu ramen, there was plenty of chashu topping. Overall, it was a satisfying bowl of ramen."

Hekisa Ramen (rich flavor): 750 yen
Located near Keihan Fujimori Station. I ordered the Hekisa Ramen, with the option to choose between regular or rich flavor, and I chose the rich flavor. The bowl consisted of plenty of chashu pork, menma (bamboo shoots), and chopped green onions, keeping it simple. There was a generous amount of chashu pork, more than what you would typically find at other shops. This was a pleasant surprise. Despite choosing the rich flavor, the soup didn't feel overly rich; instead, it had a good balance of soy sauce flavor and saltiness. Perhaps the regular Hekisa Ramen is quite light in comparison. Overall, it was a good value for money, with a simple and satisfying taste. Thank you for the meal!

After eating yakiniku, I visited this ramen shop for the first time. I was already somewhat full, so I ordered the Kassai ramen. I noticed that all the ramen could be made rich, so I hurriedly asked for mine to be made rich. The staff kindly agreed. The ramen arrived in a few minutes. First, I tasted the soup. It was a bit sweet, but as I kept eating, it became less noticeable. It was a bit on the light side, though. There were plenty of chashu slices, and if you ordered chashu ramen, you would get quite a lot. The green onions and garlic were flavorful, and there was also some back fat adding richness. However, overall, it lacked a bit of impact. Maybe my taste buds are not very reliable, but I felt that way. At one point, I got thirsty, and although there were cups on the table, there was no water. I looked around for a water dispenser but couldn't find one near me. I had to use a water pot from a table three tables away. Maybe they forgot to bring water to my table. Thank you for the meal.

This is an old-established restaurant in the area. They have been in business for over 20 years. Before that, it was a restaurant called "Ramen Kingdom". I saw a daily special of Yaki Meshi set meal for 950 yen and decided to go in. I ordered the "Kotteri" option after seeing that it can be added to various ramen dishes. The noodles were thin, similar to Kondo Seimen, but not quite. It seems that "Kotteri" means extra lard. The base soup had a slight spiciness and a sweet soy flavor combination which I didn't quite like, but the extra lard made it closer to my taste. The chashu was a mix of sliced pork belly and end pieces, with a generous portion. The chashu, tender from the hot soup, was delicious. The fried rice was a well-cooked type with a savory flavor, likely seasoned with sauce for a fragrant taste. However, despite being moist, it was dry and lacked a good texture. As I walked out, I noticed another restaurant, "Fukumon", offering a daily special of Mapo Tofu Rice for only 850 yen, which seemed better. This highlights the importance of compatibility in such situations.

This is a light soy sauce ramen. The soup is so good that you can drink it all up to the last drop. It is similar to the popular ramen shop near Kyoto Station with long lines. The price for a regular soy sauce ramen is 690 yen, and you can also get a large serving of rice for 160 yen. The garage is fully equipped.

After finishing work and arriving past 8:30 PM, just in time before the last order at 9 PM. The restaurant has a spacious parking lot, which is very convenient. Inside, the restaurant was empty as it was close to closing time, so I had a table to myself to look at the menu. They offer 6 types of ramen, including tsukemen, and a variety of set menus. I chose the restaurant's signature "Kassai Ramen" (690 yen) with extra chashu topping (220 yen), and requested firm noodles with extra green onions. The bowl arrived with a generous serving of chashu, menma, and plenty of green onions on top of a clear broth. The soup had a rich flavor from chicken and pork bones, with a hint of soy sauce. It reminded me of the typical clear soy sauce ramen found in Kyoto, with a solid umami taste from the chicken and pork bones. The noodles, despite being firm, had a chewy texture that complemented the soup well. The chashu was thicker than the usual thin slices found in Kyoto ramen, with a good balance of fat and flavor. It was satisfyingly filling. The restaurant is conveniently located near the station, has a parking lot, and offers a spacious dining area with tables, making it suitable for families with young children or those coming from work.

Ramen Kassai in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto City. It is a ramen shop with a spacious parking lot, making it easy to visit. The interior is spacious, with both counter seats and table seats, and a considerable number of seats. The menu includes Kassai Ramen, Miso Ramen, Spicy Miso Ramen, Taiwan Ramen, Akadama Ramen, and Suji Ramen. There are also set meal menus, and I tried the Yaki Meshi set with Kassai Ramen noodles cooked firm and rich. The rich broth is topped with a large amount of lard, a visual characteristic of Kyoto ramen. The soup has a strong umami flavor from pork bones and is rich with the umami of vegetables. It is rich in flavor but not too heavy. The medium-thin noodles have a moist texture and go well with the soup and green onions. The toppings of menma and chashu are also generous. It is a deliciously rich bowl of ramen. As for the Yaki Meshi, it has a light yet flavorful taste, with delicious ingredients and a great texture that pairs well with the ramen. It was a delightful meal.

Visited around 12pm on Thursday, February 27, 2020. Surprisingly not crowded and parking lot was empty. It's nice to find a ramen shop with available parking around here! It was my first visit, so I ordered the signature "Kassai Ramen" with firm noodles and extra green onions. The soy sauce ramen made with pork bones and chicken broth was thick and tasty. Although it didn't have any standout features, it was quite delicious. I was a bit skeptical when I walked in, but the ramen turned out to be better than expected.

From Fushimi Station on the Keihan Line to Fujimori Station, there is a concentration of ramen shops similar to the Ramen Street in Ichijoji. This trend has emerged recently. Despite the abundance of ramen shops, new ones keep opening and closing quickly, showing a high turnover rate. In such a competitive environment, it's hard to find the opportunity to visit the second or third-tier shops. However, today, my favorite diner was full, so I decided to try one of these lesser-known places. I ordered the "Kassai Ramen" and some fried chicken. The Kassai Ramen was a typical soy sauce-based Kyoto ramen, different from the greasy chicken-pork bone broths commonly found in the area. The taste was decent, and it could be a good option when you want a non-greasy ramen. It's also nice that they offer set meals. Nevertheless, there are many other delicious ramen shops nearby. While this place is not bad, with this level of impact, customers might prefer other establishments. When there are so many ramen shops clustered together, this one might get lost in the crowd.

Deep Grass Lunch. I visited a ramen shop that I had never been to before. I arrived by car, and there was a parking lot next to the shop with enough space for about a dozen cars, so no problem there. Many ramen shops in this area do not have parking, so this was very convenient. The interior of the shop is spacious and stylish, but the wide open space from end to end made me feel a bit uneasy personally.
Order:
- Grilled Rice Set 1,050 yen
- Fried Chicken 380 yen (noodles were ordered firm)
The ramen arrived in about five minutes. The chashu pork covering the surface made a big impression. The other toppings were green onions and bamboo shoots, keeping it simple. Now, onto the taste test! First, the soup. It was light and not spicy, with a slight pork bone aroma, but lacked depth in flavor. It was smooth, but perhaps a bit too soft.
Next, the noodles. Despite ordering them firm, they were cooked to a normal texture. The slightly chewy, medium-thick noodles were tasty, but a bit too soft for my liking. The chashu pork from Sanmai Niku was thinly sliced with a good balance of fatty and lean meat.
Then, the set's Grilled Rice. It was not dry, but rather moist and had a nice balance between sticky and fluffy. It had a deliciously fragrant grilled flavor that you can't replicate at home.
Lastly, the fried chicken. It was a bit dry, with a light seasoning but a strong mirin flavor. It needed some salt for adjustment. In this highly competitive ramen district where many shops offer unique ramen, this shop's ramen was more standard. It could use a bit more punch, but aiming for broad appeal might be their strategy. Overall, it was a decent meal.

On the day after finishing moving, we decided to try out a new ramen shop closest to our new home. The shop had many table seats and the staff recommended us to sit at a table. They even brought a basket for our belongings. The first impression was good. I ordered the "Kassai Ramen" with a flavored egg, while my husband ordered a spicy red soup ramen (I forgot the name). Each ramen cost 750 yen. The "Kassai Ramen" was described as a broth made from pork bones, chicken bones, and vegetables, but it was surprisingly light. I wondered if it really contained pork bones. The flavored egg had the perfect yolk firmness. The staff was friendly, but we both felt that the ramen was a bit lacking.

I think I was on my way to work when I entered this shop in March. It was busy at the end of the fiscal year, with traffic jams, so I decided to have some quick udon or ramen... When I happened to pass by, I noticed that the parking lot was quite large and there were two people lined up at the entrance? Well, since the parking lot was empty, I decided to give it a try. At the entrance, there was an ashtray, so it turned out to be a smoking area. Once inside, it was empty and I ordered the Chashu Ramen with extra pork and my coworkers ordered the Gyuusuji Ramen and gyoza. After a while, the soy sauce ramen with plenty of chashu arrived (^∇^) It was the type of soy sauce ramen often seen in Kyoto, with a slight pork smell. The noodles were medium-thin and straight, and the thinly sliced chashu was soft and delicious. My coworkers enjoyed the rich flavor of the Gyuusuji Ramen with plenty of beef tendons and no chashu. The gyoza was also delicious, although it was wrapped in a way that left one end open. Thank you for the meal.

From Fumisono Station on the Keihan Electric Railway, head north on Shidan Kaido. This area has many ramen shops due to Ryukoku University's Fukakusa Campus. One of these ramen shops, Kassai Ramen, offers a student discount. The smell of tonkotsu broth wafts outside the shop. I ordered the Kassai Ramen for 670 yen. You can choose the firmness of the noodles, and I chose firm. However, the noodles are not as thin as Hakata ramen noodles. Despite ordering firm, I couldn't really tell the difference from the regular noodles. The ramen is soy sauce flavored, but it lacks the tonkotsu richness that was in the air outside. Overall, it's a cheap option at 670 yen, but the ramen lacks a distinct flavor.
