This day, while visiting the tourist destination "Uji," known for places like Byodoin Temple and associated with Murasaki Shikibu, I discovered a new café with a natural modern sense that left a lasting impression. This café, which opened in July 2022, offers a variety of espresso, sweets, and alcohol, with plans to start roasting their own beans soon. Upon entering the café, the natural and modern design harmoniously blend, with a cash-on system for ordering before noticing the Slayer espresso machine. The menu includes espresso, café latte, Americano, espresso tonic, matcha and roasted tea lattes with homemade syrups, coffee cocktails, wine, whiskey, and a single homemade sweet. I chose an Americano (400 yen) for drinks and a rich matcha terrine (450 yen) for sweets. The terrine was moist and subtly sweet with a rich matcha flavor, while the Americano had a balanced bitterness and richness unique to espresso extracted by the Slayer machine. The combination of both was satisfying. I also noticed a multi-faceted speaker called "scenery," which seemed to be from Listude in Nara, playing lyrical music that added to the peaceful atmosphere. A notice in the café mentioned that "Ensemble Coffee" in Okinawa is a related store, and the name "ap" means water in Sanskrit. Located near famous spots in Uji like Byodoin Temple, this café stands out with its unique charm and atmosphere among the many dining options in the area. The café operates from 10:00 to 18:00, offering takeout and coffee bean sales for those who want to enjoy authentic espresso and sweets during the day or relax after sightseeing. I hope this gem becomes well-known among locals and travelers alike.
