Travel to Kyoto with my wife. Visited a restaurant with a new name and menu. 12:20 Entered, seated, and ordered. 12:30 Food arrived. [Before moving on to the food review...] There seemed to be more foreigners. Maybe because restrictions were lifted. [Summary] Highlight Rice Bowl 800 yen. A bowl with a diameter of about 150mm, height of 50mm, filled with multigrain rice up to a depth of 20mm. The ratio of ingredients is mostly toppings with a little rice. Neatly arranged with ingredients like egg, broccoli, chicken, tomato, and lettuce. The slightly ethnic-flavored chicken breast is juicy, almost dry, with a good taste. The multigrain rice also has a good flavor. The umami, spiciness, and acidity blend well together. The flavor is just right, leaving a satisfying taste without guilt. Adding fish sauce enhances the spiciness and umami, making it even more delicious. Highlight Cutlet Sandwich [single item] 630 yen. Craft Beer Nishijin Beer [White Night with Lemon Ale] 850 yen. Will definitely return. Delicious as always.

Today, I had a busy day working in Shijo Karasuma again. I decided to have a light lunch at Highlight Kyoto. Highlight is a popular chain of casual dining restaurants in Kyoto, but this particular one is a stylish establishment renovated from a traditional townhouse, with an all-female staff. While their specialty is katsu sandwiches, I opted for a rice ball with keema katsu. The dish arrived in about 5 minutes and consisted of three towering chicken katsus. The keema katsu was delicious, with a rich keema curry and a variety of vegetables and pickles to mix in. The soft-boiled egg on the side was also excellent. Although a bit challenging to eat, the flavors were irresistible. I look forward to trying their katsu sandwiches next time. Highly recommended! #HighlightKyoto #PopularKatsuSandwiches #StylishDiner #Gourmet #GourmetGram #ConnectingWithFoodies #KatsuSandwichLovers #GreatValueKatsuSandwich #LunchInstagram #RiceBallLovers #InstagrammableRiceBowl #DeliciousKatsuSandwich #PhotoWorthyRiceBowl #ConnectingWithLunchLovers #KyotoCity #ShijoKarasumaGourmet #ShijoStation #ApologizeToTheChicken #KyotoPrefectureGourmet #DeliciousChickenKatsu #Japan #Kyoto #Gourmet #JapaneseFood #KeemaKatsu

I walked a bit from Gion Shijo Station to near Karasuma. There was a shocking message to apologize to the chicken, but since the chef didn't apologize, I ignored it and enjoyed my meal. I ordered a Highlight Cutlet Sandwich and a Ginger Ale. They also have rice bowls available. The portion size seems to be enough to satisfy a small hunger.

Ayakoji Street, heading west from Yanaginobanba, is where you'll find the famous Kyoto katsu sandwich specialty store that has been making waves in various media with its catchy slogan "Apologize to the chicken." Last year, the store was renewed with a new menu under the name "Highlight Kyoto." The new interior design is inspired by pendant lights, creating a cool and stylish space with a feminine touch for a more comfortable dining experience. Despite the renovation, the powerful catchphrase "Apologize to the chicken." remains intact. In addition to the popular chicken katsu sandwich, the menu now includes healthy rice bowls and katsu curry that are also popular among women. The coffee menu is supervised by the famous barista, Okaffe Kyoto, ensuring attention to detail in the drink offerings. The Highlight Rice Bowl features a colorful array of vegetables such as crushed eggs, broccoli, chicken, tomatoes, and lettuce, seasoned with a homemade Asian sauce made with lemongrass and ginger for a juicy and flavorful chicken and vegetable contrast. The towering Katsu Keema features freshly fried chicken katsu on top of authentic keema curry, creating a unique and bold presence that truly lives up to the catchphrase "Apologize to the chicken." The curry is a blend of cardamom, cumin, coriander, and other spices, specially formulated to complement the chicken with a rich meaty flavor and a mild spiciness that appeals to all ages. The dish is served with spiced eggs, tomatoes, and rice made from sixteen grains, offering a variety of flavors and textures that defy the conventional notion of katsu curry. From Highlight Shokudo and Highlight Katsu Sandwich, we also introduce original items that blend Japanese and Western influences. The "Highlight Sauce" is designed to evoke the taste of home-cooked meals, inspired by the concept of the first owner of Highlight Shokudo wanting students to experience the flavors of home. The "Highlight Ponzu" is a mild vinegar with a sweet soy base, using the juice of daidai oranges, a rare ingredient in Kansai, perfect for both hot pot dishes and Western salads. To complete the menu, we have the Remi Lemonade from Oceania, a cute and nostalgic organic soda with a natural sweetness and aroma. The diverse and original menu lineup will surely satisfy your taste buds with its casual and affordable offerings that are of high quality. The atmospheric townhouse space overlooks a small garden, furnished with Karimoku furniture for a relaxing experience. Whether for a late lunch or casual cafe visit, the generous portions will surely satisfy anyone's appetite. Rice dishes and katsu sandwiches are available for takeout, perfect for a quick energy boost. Experience the gourmet delights of spring at Highlight Kyoto and indulge in a memorable dining experience!

Highlight Dining in Kyoto's Shijo area has a new concept, set in a traditional machiya building with a calming inner garden. I had the Highlight Rice Bowl, which was loaded with eggs, broccoli, tomatoes, lettuce, purple onions, and plenty of vegetables. The chicken breast was tender and the spicy seasoning had a punch without being overwhelming. It had an Asian twist and was surprisingly easy to eat. My companion had the Katsu Keema Rice Bowl, which looked appetizing. The Keema curry was customizable in terms of spiciness, and although it was quite hot, it had an addictive kick. The seasoned egg was delicious, especially when mixed with the vegetables. The standout was the Chicken Katsu, a mini version of Highlight Dining's famous dish, served generously. It was quite filling and reassuringly well-prepared. We will definitely be back.

I went to a restaurant called Highlight Dining located in Demachiyanagi near Kyoto University. They serve generous portions, and the chicken cutlet was delicious. Among the three options, I particularly loved the cheese! I heard that there is a related shop in Shijo Karasuma, so I went there. The first time I went, they happened to be closed, but the second time they were open! I tried the Chicken Cutlet Sandwich with Cheese, and it was amazing! It may be a bit pricey at around 1100 yen including a drink, but you can relax in a cafe-style setting. The food is delicious, the cutlet, the bread, the cheese! I highly recommend it for your Kyoto sightseeing!

Belated Happy New Year! As an intermittent reviewer, I kindly ask for your continued support this year as well m(__)m Now, kicking off the new year with a review of the "Chicken Cutlet Sandwich" in Kyoto♪ In Kyoto, there is a chain of teishokuya (set meal restaurants) called "Highlight," which apparently many students have frequented. It seems that their "Jumbo Chicken Cutlet" is famous, and this spin-off store originated from there (*^^)v Previously, when I passed by, the walls were adorned with a more flashy "Chicken Cutlet pattern," and there was quite a long line. However, they underwent a renewal in November, adding menu items like "Rice Bowls" and becoming more stylish and adult-like. The interior of the store has a retro atmosphere of a machiya (traditional townhouse), with a view of the inner courtyard. Does anyone else feel that the atmosphere enhances the deliciousness by 30%? (。・ω・。)ノ♡ I tried the Highlight Cutlet Sandwich & Drink Set for 980 yen. The bread with a delicious-looking crust, shredded cabbage, freshly fried chicken cutlet made-to-order, on! Drizzled with plenty of sweet sauce and squiggles of mustard, it's complete♡ As I take a bite, "I'm sorry & thank you, chicken-san (•ө•)♡," the meat juice splashes out, causing a burn and taking off the skin on my upper palate. Excellent, excellent, bring it on~~~\(^o^)/ The chicken cutlet is relatively thin, making it cook quickly and easy to eat. Thanks to being freshly fried, it's not greasy and surprisingly light to eat despite the generous portion. However, it's so filling that I asked to take the rest home, and they kindly accommodated my request~ m(__)m All in all, I really enjoyed itヽ(=´▽`=)ノ I look forward to finding the right timing to visit again. Thank you for the meal (灬º‿º灬)♡

Kyoto Location Bento Series 9: On this day, I had a light meal with a tuna sandwich. When I opened the box of the delicious-looking cutlet sandwich, I was surprised to find a mysterious and scary message that said "Apologize to the chicken." I was hesitant, but I ate it and it was incredibly delicious! Even though it was cold, the breading was crispy, and the chicken was quite juicy and tasty!

First visit. Arrived around 14:00 so didn't have to wait in line. There was no parking lot, had to use a nearby coin parking. The restaurant seemed to cater to a younger crowd, but the food was delicious and satisfying. The crispy bread and fried chicken had a great texture. It was nice that the filling didn't spill out. Felt full and very satisfied. Would like to visit again, but might avoid weekends.

In Kyoto, for those who spent their campus life there, the term "highlight" holds a special meaning. It was something slightly more expensive, about 100-200 yen more than what you would get at the university co-op or Gyoza no Ohsho, to be enjoyed on special occasions. However, with an overwhelming volume that satisfies, there were eateries near the university gates in Ishikawa, Hyakumanben, and Gionbashi that served a giant chicken cutlet drenched in sauce, to be devoured alongside white rice and miso soup. It was an irresistible moment of bliss. Now, a new concept of "highlight" has emerged, so I decided to check it out after getting off at Hankyu Karasuma. It had a café-like atmosphere that didn't quite fit the traditional "highlight" image. The staff, with a sleek appearance and speaking in Kansai dialect, took our orders. I ordered the Highlight Cutlet for 530 yen and an iced coffee for 450 yen. The place was renovated from an old house, with a miniature garden. If my memory serves me right, the giant chicken cutlet was served on an oval silver plate, with the sauce almost overflowing. That's the image I have in mind (although I'm not entirely sure if it was a grilled meat set or pork cutlet curry). Anyway, the cutlet sandwich came with a basket, and on it was written a mysterious command, "Apologize to the chicken." I'm not sure why we have to apologize, but when it's an order, there's no choice but to comply. The rough breadcrumbs and strong-flavored sauce remained consistent, providing a sense of comfort despite the changes in various elements.

At the basement event of Isetan Shinjuku, there was a restaurant called "Washoku Shokudo Highlight" which was established in Kyoto in 1960 and currently has several branches in Kyoto. Their "Jumbo Chicken Cutlet Set Meal" (590 yen) is well-known locally. I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of this place since I'm from the Kanto region. But the price is really cheap! Even though it's chicken breast, it's quite impressive. In 2020, they opened a new store focusing on "Cutlet Sandwiches". Their phrase "Apologize to the Chicken" and the cute packaging colors and retro logo caught my attention. I tried their "Highlight Cutlet Sandwich" for 842 yen (tax included). I got it for takeout and ate it after some time had passed, so the texture may be different from eating it fresh at the store. Even though it wasn't as crispy, it was still delicious. It was soft and easy to eat. The generous amount of mustard added some acidity, and the sauce wasn't overly sweet. The large amount of cabbage, perhaps due to the mustard, had a slightly salad-like flavor which was nice. The surface of the bread from Taisho Seipan was soft and not overpowering. The affordable price was also a plus. I'd like to try the crispy version at the store next time, but that day seems far off. I hope they participate in events in Tokyo more often.

While wandering around Shin Kyogoku in Kyoto and crossing Shijo Street, I stumbled upon a delicious-looking katsu sandwich shop called "Highlight"! They seem to apologize to the chicken. It's a chicken katsu sandwich! I quickly bought one and tried it! It's crispy and delicious! The sauce is also tasty! The chicken is too delicious! I would love to go back again.

Located a 5-minute walk from Shijo Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway, this restaurant does not have a parking lot. This shop specializes in katsu sandwiches and is operated by Highlight Shokudo, founded in 1960, which has been supporting the stomachs of Kyoto students. Their catchy slogan "Apologize to the chicken" is impressive. Both eat-in and take-out options are available. I purchased the Highlight Katsu Sandwich for 630 yen including tax for take-out. The famous chicken katsu did not disappoint. The crispy coating and the texture of the chicken are fantastic. Although the size is slightly smaller than regular sandwich bread, it is quite filling. The mustard and sauce complement each other perfectly. The bread is also firm and holds everything together well. It is a well-executed katsu sandwich. I look forward to enjoying it leisurely in the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant next time.

Highlight Katsu Sandwich (including tax 810 yen) - The bread is crispy, the cutlet is crunchy and juicy, topped with a special sweet and sour tartar sauce on cabbage, with a hint of margarine flavor. Overall, it is well-balanced and incredibly delicious.

The fried chicken was crispy and enjoyable to chew, with plenty of sauce. I felt like I could eat two of them. I'm not a big fan of cheese, so I ordered a regular sandwich and it was very satisfying. If you're looking for a good deal, you might not need to order a drink. The coffee was okay, but I could have done without it. Overall, it was delicious and I was very satisfied.

☆Mrs. and I went on a casual lunch trip (Kyoto, Shijo-Karasuma)!: Since we had breakfast early and lunch got pushed back, we decided to share one meal to get through it together. If you're looking for a hearty meal without breaking the bank, this trendy spot specializes in chicken cutlet sandwiches, perfect for students and those with a light wallet and a hungry stomach. We ordered the "Chicken Cutlet Sandwich" for 600 yen. The bread was lightly toasted, and the sandwich consisted of a crispy, large chicken cutlet with cabbage and special ketchup - simple but delicious! This sandwich, a popular item at Highlight Shokudo, is the only menu item they serve and it definitely lives up to the hype. Overall, there were a couple of other menu options we'd like to try next time. They also offer drinks and desserts, so dining in would be a good idea. Thank you for your support with likes, saving the restaurant, and following. Feel free to leave comments or questions. We appreciate your continued support.

Uzumaru "Highlight Katsu Sandwich" On this day, I had a quick lunch while on the move. I went to "Highlight Katsu Sandwich" located a 5-minute walk from Karasuma Station. This place is part of the "Highlight Shokudo" chain in Momoyama. The restaurant has a modern Japanese-style renovation that I would like to relax in, but I didn't have much time, so I had a quick lunch while also having a meeting. Highlight Katsu Sandwich (drink set) for 950 yen: A hearty sandwich with a big, freshly fried chicken cutlet sandwiched between crispy toast. It's a must-try. The mustard and sauce make it even more appetizing. Salmon and mushroom gratin croquette sandwich (drink set) for 1,210 yen: This menu item was not available before. It's a crispy and creamy croquette sandwich. I enjoyed it while walking. The hot drink in the set was perfect for sipping on the go.

I visited the restaurant for a takeout lunch. The place was quite busy during the lunch rush on a weekday, with one person ahead of me in line for takeout. After placing my order, I waited for about 10 minutes. I had a katsu sandwich for 600 yen. The sandwich was made with a regular-sized bread roll, but the katsu was large and filling. It was topped with vegetables and a delicious dressing or sauce. It was really tasty and satisfying. The only downside was that the closing time is early. Overall, I highly recommend trying it out. The paper bag for the takeout was also cute.

My younger brother and I went to a chicken cutlet sandwich shop called Highlight in Karasuma, Kyoto. It's quite unique as they tell you to apologize to the chicken. It's a bit hard to eat, I wonder if it takes a long time to cook? It must be delicious when it's hot, but the toast was slightly cold and tough.
