I had always wanted to visit Nijo Castle. During my cycling tour, I felt tired from walking inside and was drawn to this shop. I ordered the Uji matcha shaved ice without hesitation. When it was served, I couldn't help but exclaim at how big it was. It was a generously sized shaved ice. It felt a bit expensive, but I believe it was worth the price. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious.

After enjoying unagi at Maehara, we visited Nijo Castle. This cafe is also a favorite from our previous visit. It was a relaxing experience to enjoy coffee while overlooking the garden. Please note that they only accept cash payments. This time, we ordered iced coffee and my husband had a beer. It was a nice way to relax and unwind. They use fans instead of air conditioning in the summer. The food was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

When you're tired from walking around Nijo Castle on a sightseeing trip, you'll come across a tea house. The view is amazing! The scenery you can't experience outside is wonderful. The shaved ice is perfect for the hot weather! I ordered matcha shaved ice, and the matcha itself is delicious, but the red beans are also tasty and the balance is exquisite! Eating in this space makes the taste even better! I would love to visit this place again if I have the chance!

I stopped by this restaurant while strolling around Nijo Castle. The open and airy interior allows you to enjoy your meal while looking out at the garden. Although I wanted to try the limited edition Ieyasu parfait, priced at 2,000 yen, I hesitated. Instead, I ordered a set of cake and small dishes along with zenzai. The cake and small dishes consisted of cream and chiffon cake on top of mochi, which was a bit difficult to eat but fresh and delicious. The zenzai was also rich and tasty.

During the cherry blossom season, I visited NAKEDFLOWER for a nighttime stroll. The grounds of Nijo Castle were beautifully lit up with cherry blossoms and various light displays, including limited-time items for sale. It was still a bit chilly at night, so I was looking for something warm. The garden was also illuminated and looked stunning. Although you couldn't see it from the outside, it was really lovely. I tried their set menu of sweet red bean soup, matcha tea, and rice cakes, which was perfect for the lingering cold weather and delicious. I enjoyed it in the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant before heading out to see the nighttime cherry blossoms again. I would love to visit during the daytime as well, not just during the light-up event. Thank you for the meal.

When you come to Nijo Castle, be sure to visit this place. It's been a while since I last visited a few years ago. I like taking a break here and enjoying the view of the garden. I ordered iced tea and beer. The beer I had was called Hanamachi Beer, and it was really delicious! I had a little tasting and found it easy to drink and refreshing, so I'll definitely choose it again next time. The iced tea was just average. Having tea under the eaves while looking at the garden is the best. I'll definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal!

It is nice to enjoy it while looking at the Koun-Tei. The match between the matcha chiffon cake and the sweet bean paste was good. The chiffon cake is cut quite large. The cake side dish that my companion ordered was chewy and delicious, so I recommend the side dish. The blended coffee is a bit sour.

You can take a break while enjoying the view of the garden. Walking around Nijo Castle can be tiring, so it's a nice place to stop by when it's hot. The fu manju has a fluffy and pleasant texture. The sweet red bean paste inside is just right. They also offer cold green tea, which helped cool down my sweaty body.

It was extremely hot in Kyoto, but visiting the spacious Nijo Castle seemed like a daunting task. However, the beautiful garden served as an oasis, where I enjoyed a break while sipping on a refreshing Uji matcha kakigori. The kakigori was larger than expected, topped with plenty of sweet red bean paste and chestnuts, which lifted my spirits. The sound of the stream and the distant chirping of cicadas created a serene and elegant atmosphere, allowing me to cool off. I still love Kyoto after all.

Located a 5-minute walk from Nijo-jo Castle Front Station, this sweet shop inside Nijo Castle embodies the rise and fall of the Tokugawa family, where Ieyasu met Hideyori and Keiki returned political power. The elegant tea house gate transports you back to the Edo period. I visited on a sunny Sunday morning and ordered the famous Uji matcha shaved ice for 1,000 yen. Enjoying it under the eaves outside was a treat. The refined and smooth Kyoto-style matcha shaved ice was a perfect match for the clear blue sky. It was a satisfying and refreshing experience, surrounded by the beauty of the Japanese garden.

Tea house located in the garden of Nijo Castle in Kyoto. On a hot day, after walking around Nijo Castle for about an hour, I stopped by for a break. The menu had a wide variety of sweets, but since I had already eaten a lot of mochi in the morning, I just ordered tea. However, I couldn't order just a regular hot matcha (it always comes with a sweet), so I opted for cold matcha instead. Matcha (550 yen): A vibrant dark green cold matcha. It was quite sweet, but the matcha flavor was strong and delicious. I sat on the veranda, enjoying a leisurely break while gazing at the garden.

Note: Nighttime operation is limited time only! During this season when cherry blossoms bloom, you can take a break at this tea house inside Nijo Castle, which has a fantastic atmosphere, is beautiful, luxurious, and serves delicious Japanese sweets! You can enjoy the sweets while looking at the outside garden, or you can eat in the tatami room! You can make your own matcha, or have the staff make it for you! The slightly bitter and rich matcha was quite impressive! Of course, the Japanese sweets were sweet with a chewy texture, and the smooth red bean paste was delicious, but I feel like this is not the place to talk about taste, quantity, or price! Everything was so beautiful that it felt like a waste to eat it! I think the best part is enjoying the atmosphere! I think even foreigners would enjoy it ( ´∀`) This is Japan!! In today's world where the Japanese spirit is being forgotten, I hope that such wonderful shops will continue to increase in the future ( ´∀`)

Until September 2021, due to prefectural travel restrictions and emergency declarations, I was unable to visit places. Finally, with the lifting of the state of emergency and the resumption of economic activities in October 2021, there has been a slight relaxation in prefectural travel restrictions. So, this time, I decided to make a reservation in advance to visit a Vietnamese restaurant nearby called "Vietnam Bar x Saigon Saigon." I originally planned to go to the Murasakino detached palace for lunch, but it was closed on the day... What a shame! So, I visited a bakery called "Meshi Dokoro Hatsumairi," which I had bookmarked before, and then headed to Nijo Castle for the first time in a while. We arrived at Nijo Castle around 2 p.m., purchased entrance tickets, and entered the garden... It cost 2060 yen for two people. While exploring the garden, we took a little break when we found the sign for "Waraku-an Tea Room Maeda." We decided to head there right away. We arrived at the shop around 2:40 p.m. and were seated after a short wait. Since the weather still felt a bit hot, we decided to quench our thirst with a cold drink and a set of sweets. This time, we ordered a cake daifuku + drink set. We had it with cold tea (green tea) as a set... The soft skin of the daifuku with anko inside, topped with matcha sauce, was delicious. The perfect sweetness and the bitterness of the matcha were a nice combination. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Located quietly within the premises of the historic building that is part of the residence of Kakunori Ryoi, with a history of about 300 years, and its garden pond made up of about 800 stones, is a cafe! I visited on a hot summer day and walked and walked until I was sweating, but luckily found a cafe halfway through! I ordered Uji matcha and mango shaved ice, each costing around 1,000 yen. The shaved ice was a bit pricey but had a good portion, and the view of the garden was very soothing. It was a wonderful space to relax in. I highly recommend this cafe when visiting Nijo Castle. Thank you for the delicious meal!

The quietly located Maeda Coffee shop in the middle of the World Cultural Heritage Site Nijo Castle has a store in the tea room called Waraku-an. In front of your eyes, there is a Japanese-Western hybrid garden called "Seiryuen". After touring Nijo Castle, the rain stopped and the weather became very nice and hot, so I had a strawberry shaved ice. My friend had a tangerine shaved ice. Both were berry-flavored, with strawberries and tangerines respectively, and they quickly cooled down our hot bodies. The strawberry had condensed milk on top, so it was sweet. The tangerine had a refreshing sweetness and a good aftertaste. Next time, I will try the tangerine.

World Cultural Heritage, a tea house standing in Nijo Castle. "Waraku-an" is a guest house renovated from a 100-year-old townhouse. The tea and sweets served at the tea house "Maeda" inside were excellent. If you are in Kyoto, be sure to stop by this shop.

I went to Nijo Castle to see the Art Aquarium. It was my first time visiting, and I had a great time exploring the castle as well. Afterwards, we decided to have some tea. The menu had a variety of options, so I couldn't decide. I ended up ordering tea with a set menu and a popular single item. The single item I ordered was a type of mochi with a fluffy filling inside! It was incredibly delicious!! I really want to eat it again...(((o( *>Å<*)o)))

It has been since my school trip that I last visited Nijo Castle. My memory of it was only the nightingale floors. With a bit more knowledge and interest now, there is definitely more to see and appreciate. Although the floors seemed less creaky than before... Now, I am taking a little break at the tea house Maeda in the castle garden. Having shaved ice at a mandarin orange shop for the first time this summer, and probably the last. While I am curious about Uji matcha in Kyoto, nothing can beat a mandarin orange treat. It may seem like a canned product, but it is packed with plenty of fruit, making my eyes squint with delight. The syrup, with a refreshing acidity and mild sweetness, also has a hint of whey. The mandarin pieces were plentiful and delicious, with just the right amount of sweetness. The finely shaved ice had a nice texture, not melting too quickly, allowing me to enjoy it until the end. This mandarin treat was surprisingly not too intense, and I left satisfied. Thank you for the delightful mandarin treat!

During a trip to Kyoto with my daughter, we visited the former imperial villa, Nijo Castle. There are four structures in Kyoto that can be called Nijo Castle, but this one was built by Tokugawa Ieyasu and served as the residence of the Tokugawa shogunate until the Meiji Restoration. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. We took a break at the tea house in the garden. We were seated on the veranda facing the garden, enjoying traditional sweets and matcha. I had a set of three colored dumplings, peach paste, and sweet bean mochi, while my daughter had her favorite wheat cake with cold green tea. The sweets were not particularly impressive, but the view of the garden while sipping matcha was lovely. My daughter was surprised by the bitterness of the cold green tea and ended up swapping with my matcha. It may seem like matcha is more bitter, but when chilled, green tea actually has a stronger astringency. Now, let's hop on the subway and head back to the heart of Kyoto. Thank you for the meal.
