We went to Uji just before noon because we were running out of matcha at the store. On the way, we stopped at the post office in Haisuka, Daito City to send money to the main store and some documents. We had to apply for a grant by the end of February, so it was really last minute. It takes about 40 minutes to get to Uji using the Second Keihan Expressway. Our destination was Mr. Kaminishi's place, but we decided to have lunch in Uji first. We had some free time that day, so we planned to stroll around Uji after lunch. You definitely can't find this shop without doing some research beforehand. It's not visible from the street and it's a small shop, so you should look for the Hello Work office in Uji nearby. There is parking space for one car in front of the shop. We parked our "yellow sports car" there as the space was available. There are counter seats, table seats for two, and even a tatami room. The couple who runs the shop sat at a table seat. We hesitated between the Japanese-style bento for 970 yen (tax included) and the chef's special lunch for 1,420 yen (tax included), but we chose the Japanese-style bento this time. We heard that the rolled omelette was delicious, so we thought about ordering it separately, but it comes with the bento. Both the rolled omelette and tempura are made to order. We focused on the sounds coming from the kitchen behind us. The couple next to us had the chef's special lunch. It looked good too. Our bento arrived. The sashimi was octopus and red snapper, both very good. The simmered dish was delicately seasoned. The tempura was freshly fried, so it was delicious. And the "rolled omelette" was fluffy. The fried taro was especially tasty. All this for 970 yen (tax included), we were very satisfied. But we were also curious about the chef's special lunch. It came with dessert and coffee, after all. We don't usually drink coffee after meals, but we couldn't help but feel a bit envious. We left the shop at 1 pm. Now we're heading to Mr. Kaminishi's shop in Uji. And then, it's time for a stroll! Little did we know at that point, that a suspicious figure was creeping up behind us, unbeknownst to us.

Next to the Hello Work in Uji is a Japanese restaurant. It's mainly a catering shop, but they also serve lunch. They offer kaiseki meals, but their Japanese-style bento box (970 yen) is also delicious. It includes appetizers, sashimi, deep-fried dishes, simmered dishes, grilled dishes, rolled omelette, and soup. It's a high-quality meal with a variety of dishes. If you're going to eat a bento box, why not go for one like this instead of settling for a regular one from a convenience store? The culture of bento boxes, or catering meals, is something to be proud of in Japanese food culture. Just for your reference.

After a long time, I was craving Japanese food for lunch and decided to visit this place. It is located just south of the traffic light west of Uji Hello Work, right along the street (visible from Hello Work). The interior of the restaurant is quite small and they play baroque music, which is rare for a Japanese restaurant. It seems to be a local catering shop. I ordered the "Chef's Special Lunch" for 1,380 yen. It included pickles, rolled omelette, seared scallops x2, sashimi (sea bream, tuna), tempura (shrimp, conger eel, corn & sweet potato), simmered hijiki (with pumpkin and taro), salad, red miso soup (with mitsuba and myoga), pickles, rice (free refills), dessert, and coffee. The hijiki with pumpkin and taro had a strong and flavorful seasoning. The standout dish was the rolled omelette - it had a nice aroma, fluffy texture, perfect seasoning, and looked great. Simple but delicious! The relaxed atmosphere and the lovely smiles of the owner and hostess were also charming. Sometimes, a Japanese food lunch like this is just what you need.

I came across a quaint little traditional Japanese restaurant while at the job center. I wasn't sure if it was a traditional restaurant or a bento shop from the outside. I made a reservation over the phone and entered around 12:00 pm for lunch. The kind master and gentle mistress seemed to be running the place. The master's friendly tone on the phone was a good indication of their hospitality. I had the lunch set for 1380 yen. The soup was delicious, the rolled omelette was fantastic, and the tempura was also very tasty - I even had seconds of rice. Dessert and coffee were included. They also offered bento for takeout, and I saw some local ladies stopping by to buy some. I found another great restaurant in Uji. It was delicious. I was completely satisfied.

The other day, I was looking forward to visiting but it was closed for a private event, so I decided to give it another try. I found out they don't offer the chef's choice lunch on weekends, so I debated between the 2000 yen lunch kaiseki or the 940 yen Japanese bento for my first visit. The bento looked just like the photo, and the taste was great as expected from a long-standing establishment. The seasoning was very refined. I usually leave soup, but this time I finished every last drop because it was so delicious. Since they specialize in catering, I plan to order from them when I have guests over next time.
