Recommended set meal (limited to 15 servings on weekdays only) ¥2500 - Appetizers (crab vinegar dish, roast beef) - Tempura - Kasujiru (Kyoto-style miso soup with natural buri) - Steamed sushi - 3 types of desserts (matcha pudding, water manju, apple compote) The crab meat was delicate in flavor, while the roast beef was tender and elegant. The sesame dressing on the rape blossoms was fragrant, and the kumquat was refreshing. The tempura, made with shrimp, white fish, shiitake mushrooms, and green peppers, had a thin and crispy batter with perfect cooking. When the soup bowl was opened, the pleasant aroma of kasu and yuzu filled the air, with a subtly sweet and gentle taste. The finely chopped sweet potatoes, aburaage, and daikon radish were well-seasoned, warming the body. The steamed sushi had warm, fluffy rice and tender conger eel, with a delightful texture of tuna inside. The matcha pudding was soft and fluffy, while the water manju had a chewy texture and an elegant matcha flavor. The apple compote highlighted the crispness of the apple with a refreshing sweetness. Each dish was exquisitely delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed the great value course. The private room was quiet, and the dishes were served in lovely and beautiful tableware.

I received a coupon for a restaurant in Uji and decided to make a reservation. This place is usually used for celebratory occasions or Buddhist events. We were led to a private room by a staff member in a kimono, and the room had lovely paintings on the walls. I wanted to order the special 1000 yen set meal, but it had gone up in price to over 2000 yen, so my friend and I ordered the Chirashi Sushi for 2200 yen and the Chawanmushi for 660 yen instead. I mentioned that I had a 1000 yen coupon and wanted to make the total amount exactly right. The bill came to 5060 yen. The Chawanmushi was delicious with plenty of ingredients like ginkgo nuts and lily bulbs, while the Chirashi Sushi had 8 different kinds of sushi, all of which were very tasty. The shrimp was plump and the fresh shrimp was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. However, when we went to pay, the bill was 5560 yen, not including tax. I called to ask about it and was told it was a service charge. I was confused because I thought the price should include tax by law. Overall, the experience was disappointing. It might be a good place to take older family members for special occasions, but my friend and I felt that for the price, we could have gotten a more luxurious seafood bowl elsewhere. The service was good, but the overall experience left us feeling unsatisfied.

As a Japanese person, I felt like I had to visit Byodoin Temple for the first time. After leisurely strolling around, I stopped by this impressive gate. The spacious room with a view of the Uji River from the window. ・Kyoto lunch box "Asagiri Gozen" ¥4800 ・Premium Malt's beer ¥770 I got greedy and ordered a two-tiered bento box with tempura, and ended up feeling very full.

I made a reservation for a kaiseki meal for a Buddhist event and visited the restaurant. The restaurant is relatively new, so it feels clean and tidy. The dishes I ate were a traditional Kyoto kaiseki, but the freshness of the ingredients made it stand out - there was no typical "covering up" often found in Kyoto kaiseki, allowing the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine through, making it delicious. The rice cooked with tea leaves and the matcha pudding were also tasty, with a slight nod to the tea culture. Since this time the event was mainly for adults, the children under elementary school age seemed a little bored. Next time, I would like to go back to buy the "hamo sushi" that I forgot to purchase.

JR Uji Station is about a 10-minute walk away. It is located in a residential area. It is popular for catering and memorial services. I have used it for memorial services before, but this time I used it for lunch. The cuisine includes Kyoto cuisine, kaiseki cuisine, sushi, and hot pot dishes like blowfish. Today, I had the Osamoji set meal (2,300 yen), which looked decent but tasted average, neither good nor bad.

When I was a child, my family was very frugal (some may say poor), so the difference between our regular meals and the special New Year's dishes was always a big surprise. I always looked forward to the New Year's dishes each year, especially the kazunoko, which I loved and would eat until I felt bloated the next day. As I grew older and moved away from home, New Year's dishes started to feel more formal and less exciting. However, I still wanted to enjoy a proper New Year's feast, so a few years ago, I started ordering New Year's dishes from this restaurant. While the dishes for New Year's are mostly traditional for good luck, I also wanted to include some luxurious ingredients. This restaurant was able to meet that need perfectly. The flavors are solid and reliable, as expected from a long-standing establishment. It's truly classic. I once tried ordering New Year's dishes from a trendy modern restaurant, but the unique flavors didn't suit my taste. The price may be high, but I believe it's worth it. Unfortunately, I haven't tried their regular menu yet, so I'm looking forward to trying their crab or blowfish dishes someday.

We went with a large group of children. Since we had a private room, it was okay even if the kids were a bit rowdy. The food was generally delicious, but the tempura was not so great. Some aspects made us wonder if it was worth the price. However, we were able to relax and enjoy our time. The private room was in a tatami style, as it was safer for the children, but there was a large hole where the tatami should be, and the kids were playing in it, which felt a bit dangerous. It was strange to have a big hole in the room.

The other day, I received the "mackerel sushi" here. It seems like they felt sorry for not making it in time for my birthday, so as a late fee, they went out of their way to order two pieces instead of one, which was very kind of them. I secretly gave one piece to a friend who always helps me out. When I brought it home and ate it with my mother, it was really heavy. I was worried about carrying it around. With the packaging, it weighed 960g. It's almost a kilogram... I wonder what kind of food it is... I opened it right away after weighing it, and the rice was amazing, but the mackerel was incredible. It was thick both vertically and horizontally, and had a lot of depth. There were already cuts in it (and each cut had a slice of pickled ginger in it. They put a lot of effort into it). All we had to do was eat it. So, let's dig in... The mackerel was thick, soft, and easy to chew. And most importantly, it was delicious. Despite being pickled in vinegar, there was no fishy smell at all, just a great taste. The aftertaste was also good. The rice seemed like a lot, but each piece had just the right amount of rice. The rice and mackerel were perfectly balanced in taste and quantity. Now, let's try the "coarse tea" from Kanehanseicha that arrived the other day... Some teas can ruin the taste of fish, but this tea enhances both the fish and tea flavors perfectly. It leaves a refreshing feeling in the mouth and makes the meal go down smoothly! I usually don't drink green tea during meals (because I believe that the small amount of iron in food combined with the components of green tea reduces the absorption rate of iron...), but this tea might be worth bending the rules for... It exudes a dignified presence, like the king of mackerel sushi. In terms of size, taste, and every aspect, it's unbeatable! I give it my highest recommendation. My friend who received the gift was also pleasantly surprised and extremely happy. It's a great gift recommendation.

In recent years, it has become a tradition for me to order osechi dishes from this store when spending New Year's at home. I'm not sure if it's due to the recent rise in ingredient costs or the impact of the pandemic, but the portions seem to have gotten a bit smaller and the prices have become somewhat stable, with a sense of being a bit expensive. However, the taste is still reliable, with good quality ingredients and traditional techniques. Since it's a special New Year's meal, I don't want any mishaps, so I think this place is still a safe choice. Thank you for the meal.

This is a restaurant in Uji City. The main store is a bit far from the station, but there is also a shop near Byodoin Temple. This time, I asked for a catering service for my mother-in-law's 80th birthday celebration. The meal is priced at 5,500 yen and comes in a two-tiered box. The first tier includes tempura and vinegared dishes, while the second tier includes assorted appetizers, grilled dishes, and simmered dishes. Additionally, there is sashimi, chawanmushi, and rice cooked with sea bream broth. The chawanmushi contains eel and ginkgo nuts, making it very authentic. The rice was cooked with sea bream broth, which was delicious. The quality of the food was much better than expected. It was a great celebration thanks to the delicious food.
