After having a light lunch near Kyoto Station, my friends suggested, "Let's go to Kyoto Tower!" I don't remember ever going to Kyoto Tower before... According to my friends, "The inside is really beautiful." As soon as I stepped inside... there were many shops selling Kyoto souvenirs, with lots of stylish items that scream Kyoto vibes. The place was bustling with inbound tourists, so we quickly moved on (laughs). The B1F of Kyoto Tower has a food hall called "Kyoto Tower Sand," with a lineup of 18 different shops offering meals, tea, and drinks! Truly Kyoto style! We decided to have tea at "PANCAKE ROOM" this time. It's like a typical food court where you secure your seats first, then order at the counter. Once your order is ready, they ring a bell for you to pick it up (laughs). This time, we ordered... Kyoto Pancake with Kinako (soybean flour) for 1300 yen (tax included) Darjeeling Tea for 200 yen (tax included) The Kyoto Pancake with Kinako includes pancakes, ice cream, rice cakes, whipped cream, and maple syrup. The pancakes were fluffy and had the symbol of the Daimonji fire festival "大" drawn on them with powdered sugar. Very Kyoto-esque! The "kinako" mentioned on the menu refers to the ice cream, which was kinako-flavored ice cream with black beans. First bite of the pancake without anything... "Uh...". The moment I tasted it, I was surprised by the undercooked, powdery pancake (laughs). Oh no, another undercooked scenario of "fluffy pancakes" cliché... I tried adding maple syrup. Two bites later... oh no, this powdery smell won't go away even with maple syrup! Oh no (tears). Third bite, I added a lot of whipped cream!... Of course, the whipped cream, of all times, had a very mild sweetness and couldn't mask the powdery smell of the pancake. Oh no, can I finish all of this...? I tried the kinako ice cream to refresh my palate. It had a good balance of sweetness from the black beans and fragrance from the kinako, and I enjoyed it. That was a relief (;^ω^;) Finally, the rice cake. It was a three-colored rice cake with pink and green layers, but when I tried it, the pink had pink bean paste inside, and the green had whole bean paste inside. It was delicious as well, and I felt relieved (;´д`) In the end, I managed to finish the pancake with the help of ice cream and rice cake, trying to deceive my taste buds (;´д`) This undercooked pancake was a definite "no!" The Darjeeling tea for 200 yen seemed cheap, but it was a tea bag. However, it was handy to freshen up my mouth after the pancake disaster (;^ω^;) ------------------------------------------------------------------In my experience, most fluffy pancake places I've been to tend to have a high probability of serving undercooked, powdery pancakes... Unfortunately, this place also falls into the category of "undercooked pancakes," a disappointing visit indeed (⌯᷄︎ὢ⌯᷅︎) Unless something drastic changes, I won't be revisiting this place (˃ ⌑︎ ˂) Thank you for the meal (;´д`)
