I visited during my break for lunch. I ordered the tonkatsu and croquette set meal at El. The sauce was homemade and delicious. Personally, I prefer the tonkatsu to be a bit softer. The croquette was fluffy and very tasty.

I visited the restaurant during regular opening hours. The counter was full, but there was seating available in the tatami area, where I was seated. I ordered the Tonkichi set meal for 1050 yen. The pork cutlet in the Tonkichi set meal is the same as the one in the Rosukatsu set meal, but the Tonkichi set meal comes with 100 grams of meat, while the Rosukatsu set meal comes with 150 grams. The meal included potato salad, curry bean sprouts, and cabbage as side dishes, along with the pork cutlet on a plate. The miso soup was quite large and tasty, with potatoes and cabbage in it. The pork cutlet was average in taste. The cost performance was good. There was a decent waiting time after ordering. It was a bit disappointing that the pork cutlet got soggy from the water and sauce of the vegetables. The restroom was Japanese-style.

I went to a popular restaurant that doesn't take reservations but you can always eat if you line up. I had always wanted to visit this place, so I was prepared to wait in line in Kyoto. Luckily, it was not crowded when I arrived. I tried the Tonkichi Double Set (2 pieces of tonkatsu) for 1,830 yen. The tonkatsu was delicious, even though I usually prefer salt over sauce. The Demi-glace sauce tonkatsu here was surprisingly tasty. The thin-cut pork was tender and melted in my mouth, and the sauce was rich but balanced by the grated daikon. The salad, curry stir-fried bean sprouts, and creamy potato salad complemented the meal well. The soup had a hint of sansho pepper and was like a Japanese-style stew with chicken and pork. Overall, the meal was affordable and delicious. I also think other fried dishes would taste great with this sauce. Check out my Instagram @ginjirou.star for more food reviews.

I visited the restaurant before 1 pm. The inside was full, so I had to wait for a few minutes (about 2-3 minutes) before being seated. I ordered the "Tonkichi set meal" for 1050 yen. It came with tonkatsu, rice, and tonjiru (pork miso soup). The tonkatsu was thin and topped with plenty of sauce, which went really well with the rice! The tonkatsu was super delicious (*´༥`*) so yummy! The miso soup with a hint of sansho pepper was also tasty. This time, I asked for less rice, but I would love to have a double portion of tonkatsu next time because it was so delicious! It was a super delicious tonkatsu meal (๑´ڡ`๑). Thank you for the meal!

This restaurant was a great help during my salaryman days. I visited for the first time in 30 years and the taste was still amazing, even though the owner had changed. The dish we had together quickly became the top choice for something I wanted to eat again, even days later. If anyone reads this comment, please make sure to visit this place! It might change your concept of tonkatsu a bit...

I ordered the Tonkichi set meal (tonkatsu set meal) for 1050 yen. The difference between this and the loin cutlet set meal for 1900 yen is the size of the cutlet. The Tonkichi set meal has a sufficient amount. The rice portion is normal to slightly larger. The miso soup has a strong flavor of sansho pepper. The homemade sauce is unique, not like demi-glace, but delicious.

Tonkichi's tonkatsu is my number one favorite. The sauce is incredibly delicious, and even though the ingredients are minimal, the pork soup with a hint of sansho pepper is just amazing. I mean it in a good way, haha. I ordered the tonkatsu double and a cream croquette as a side with my friend, and we each enjoyed one. There's nothing happier than being full from a delicious meal, right? It's a taste that is beloved for its unique flavor. I will definitely go back again!

I stopped by because I was in the area and decided to try it out! The original sauce was light yet flavorful, and very tasty. The meat was tender and well-prepared, making it easy to eat. If the breading had a bit more punch, I would give it a half-star more.

I went to Tonkichi the other day after a long time. It was so delicious that I went again. I ordered the Tonkichi Double with a cream croquette on the side. We shared the croquette between two people. It was incredibly delicious. I wonder how they make such tasty sauce. I wish I could have it at home. I now understand why the individual prices are a bit high. Just like the set meal, it came with a salad. Even though we shared it, we were stuffed.

The head chef is not present. I wonder if he is not here at night. The homemade sauce here has always been delicious, and I can't stop eating until it's gone. The miso soup with plenty of sansho pepper is also delicious. I started sprinkling sansho pepper in the miso soup I make at home, but it doesn't have the same flavor as the one in this restaurant. The tonkatsu, ebi fry, and croquettes are all delicious. The ebi fry has a thick coating, which is funny. There is a notice saying that prices will increase from April. It's understandable due to rising ingredient costs, but it's tough to see prices going up more and more. I will definitely come back because the food is delicious.

I visited during lunchtime, and there were mostly male customers, but I managed to get a seat. The sauce on the tonkatsu was incredibly delicious, making the rice go down smoothly. I can see why people would come back here. They also offer takeout, but I prefer eating in the restaurant to avoid the tonkatsu coating becoming soggy. The presence of pig figurines around the shop left a strong impression.

Homemade sauce spreads across the entire plate. Is this sauce the secret to its popularity? Tonkatsu and croquette set meal. Konbi-eru set meal. It's delicious no matter how many times you eat it. The miso soup has few ingredients but is tasty. Plenty of sansho pepper enhances the flavor.

Sometimes you just crave it, your mouth remembers. This time, it's the tonkatsu and cream croquette set. Priced at ¥1400, it's best to avoid lunchtime rush for a more relaxed dining experience. Sitting at the counter, I place my order for the tonkatsu and cream croquette set. The dish arrives on a large plate with cabbage, potato salad, curry bean sprouts, tonkatsu, and two cream croquettes, all topped with demiglace sauce. It also comes with rice and miso soup with a hint of sansho pepper. The tonkatsu is juicy and tender, perfectly complemented by the demiglace sauce. The cream croquette is rich in flavor with a satisfying crunch from the generous filling. It's simply delicious, words can't do it justice.

Around 2:00 PM. By chance, the clientele seemed sketchy. The hierarchy also appeared strict. I ordered the Tonkichi set meal for ¥930, but had to wait for over 20 minutes due to 5 customers ahead of me. The tonkatsu served on a large plate was dry and thin. The breading easily fell off. It was quite disappointing. There were no visible meat fibers. The sauce had a sour taste like Worcestershire sauce and grated daikon radish. The shredded cabbage, potato salad, tomato, and yellow bean sprouts were average. The miso soup had a sprinkle of sansho pepper, but the essential miso flavor was lacking. The ingredients were mashed potatoes, green onions, and pork without much fat. It fell short of expectations compared to other tonkatsu restaurants.

Fried food assortment set meal with cream croquette instead. Generously topped with special sauce that goes well with both tonkatsu and croquette. The shrimp fry comes with mayo on top. The miso soup has a strong sansho pepper flavor and though it doesn't have a lot of ingredients, it's very tasty. It's so delicious that you end up eating too much rice. The taste never gets old no matter how many times you eat it.

In the fiercely competitive ramen district of Ichijoji, I decided to challenge myself by skipping the ramen and trying the tonkatsu instead. The historic interior of the restaurant, with only a counter, was packed with customers. I ordered a set of fried foods including tonkatsu, croquette, and shrimp fry. The tangy special sauce was so addictive.

I made a video of my dining experience at this restaurant. I also post videos of food tours and travels on my channel, so please subscribe if you're interested. I first visited this restaurant many years ago after walking to the Tanimizu-yama Fudoin temple and getting hungry. The place is a bit shabby, but I like the atmosphere. I remember being surprised by how crowded it was even on a weekday, not knowing it was a popular spot. My go-to order here is the tonkatsu and cream croquette set. The sauce is fruity and not too heavy, with curry-flavored bean sprouts and pork soup with a hint of sansho pepper to balance the meal. I highly recommend the cream croquette, which is filled with plenty of cheese that goes well with the sauce. You might be surprised to find tonkatsu in Kyoto, but I love this place and visit every year.

It was delicious as always. And of course, I had the double portion. I also want to try the croquette, but I'm captivated by the tonkatsu. Thank you for the meal. The customer next to me had beer and a set meal. I envy them... If only my house were closer, I would try that too. The tonkatsu with the special sauce that has remained unchanged over the years is exquisite.

When it comes to Ichijoji in Kyoto, it's a ramen battleground with many ramen shops. In this area, there is a well-known tonkatsu restaurant called "Tonkichi" that even locals rave about. They serve hearty tonkatsu dishes with generous portions. The menu includes tonkatsu, croquettes, and pork cutlet set meals. In addition to set meals, they also offer assorted fried foods such as shrimp fry, cream croquette, ginger pork, and miso pork. I ordered the Tonkichi Double Tonkatsu Set meal, which comes with two pieces of tonkatsu. The miso soup that comes with the set has a spicy accent of sansho pepper. The large-cut tonkatsu pieces are lined up luxuriously, served with Tonkichi's special light and refreshing sauce with grated daikon. You can enjoy the crispy part of the batter without sauce, as well as the tender part soaked in sauce, which is not thickly cut but still packed with the tenderness and flavor of the pork. I visited the restaurant during the evening hours, and within 10 minutes, it was almost full with locals. The delicious tonkatsu at this popular old tonkatsu restaurant is known for its addictive special sauce, so if you're curious, be sure to try it at Tonkichi.
