We used it for a drinking party with 8 people on a regular day. There were elaborate dishes such as eel rolls and conger eel tempura, which were delicious. The variety of alcohol was not particularly unusual, but they provided what we wanted. The restaurant has two floors, and the second floor has no clear partitions. However, the interior is stylish with an old folk house atmosphere!

★Located right next to Kyoto University, with a casual atmosphere.★Choose a main dish for your set meal at 1,100 yen (tax included). There were 4 options to choose from, and I chose the simmered mackerel with miso. It came with 2 side dishes, red rice, and miso soup. The mackerel was large and delicious, and the side dishes included celery, broccoli and bean salad, all seemed healthy and tasty.♡

I happened to visit this restaurant after going to the Kyoto University Museum. It's located a bit off the main street from the Hyakumanben intersection. I casually stopped by, but it turned out to be a favorite spot of mine. They serve Kyoto-style lunches with obanzai (traditional Kyoto side dishes). I wish there was a place like this nearby that I could visit often. ☺️

I enjoyed a delicious meal of five-grain rice and simmered mackerel at a charming restaurant with a Taisho-era romantic atmosphere on the way from Demachiyanagi Station to Hyakumanben. The interior was illuminated by stylish chandeliers, creating a unique ambiance, and Beatles medley was playing. This is a must-visit restaurant when you are in Demachiyanagi.

I tried the dinner set at night. It costs 2000 yen including one drink (beer, etc.). I chose fried tofu as the main dish and started eating. Oh, it's so comforting. Fried tofu is the best. The eggplant is also delicious, and even though I wouldn't normally choose pickled vegetables, it tastes really good. Eating meals like this every day is a healthy lifestyle. This is great.

I visited Omura-ya after a long time. It was quite crowded inside on Sunday at 6:30 pm, and the staff seemed busy, so the service was a bit rushed (but still within acceptable limits, haha). We had the takowasa, cheese omelette, red snapper head stew, pumpkin gratin, and fig tempura. We were full with just the two of us! We also had three drinks each, and the total came to around 9000 yen. Personally, I was impressed by the fig tempura. The lemonade and beer were also delicious. All the dishes were made with care and were tasty.

@Kyoto: ★★☆☆☆ Tabelog 3.32 [A nostalgic and traditional obanzai restaurant] I tried this restaurant affiliated with Omura House in Demachi. It had a nostalgic and traditional atmosphere. Might be good for casual dining! #KansaiGourmet #KyotoGourmet #Hyakumanben #Obanzai #Japan #Happy #Food

A quaint traditional Japanese restaurant located just a stone's throw away from the bustling intersection. This place has been satisfying the appetites of Kyoto university students and professors for ages with its hearty dishes. The exterior exudes charm, while the interior feels like a time warp to the Showa era. The menu offers a variety of dishes, from home-cooked obanzai to hearty izakaya fare like sashimi, tempura, dashimaki, and omu soba. The drink selection includes sake, beer, highballs, and even cute options like melon cream shochu highball, making it a great place for those who aren't big drinkers to enjoy.

I visited this izakaya when sightseeing in Kyoto. They serve Kyoto-style home-cooked dishes. I enjoyed a relaxing atmosphere where I could unwind. I recommend it to those who want to host a drinking party but dislike noisy places.

Located just northwest of the Hyakumanben intersection in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City. This is a Japanese restaurant affiliated with the omelette rice specialty shop "Omuraisu". They offer set meals during the day and a more izakaya-style menu at night. The restaurant is housed in a renovated old Japanese house, giving it a cozy atmosphere with wooden decor. If you use the restroom at the back, you'll find a small garden. The private booth at the very back seems to have been repurposed from a storehouse. Now, let's talk about the lunch. I opted for the most affordable option at 950 yen plus tax. For this lunch, you get to choose the main dish. Among options like chicken cutlet, I chose the vegetable tempura with dashi. The two side dishes and miso soup were all delicious and well-prepared. Despite only having three staff members, they worked efficiently and communicated politely with each other. It's been over 10 years since my last visit, but I would definitely consider coming back again.

I ordered the daily special set meal with creamy minced cutlet. You can also choose from flounder tempura, oden, and chicken wings with daikon. It was a vegetable-rich home-cooked meal set. I thought it was an omelette rice restaurant, but it turned out to be an izakaya. I accidentally walked into the wrong place, but the food was even better than expected.

Memo about a bento purchased earlier: I bought a bento from Omuraya. I decided to eat it at room temperature instead of heating it up, as I was worried the katsu coating might become soggy. The purple-tinted daikon on top, is this a Kyoto vegetable? Let's start with the side dishes. Broccoli and red kidney beans tossed in a slightly curry-flavored mayonnaise. A fresh idea for a side dish for me, but when I thought about it, beans and broccoli go well with curry so it's bound to be delicious, right? Topped with tuna katsu tartar. Not a tartar with eggs, but one with shredded onions and cucumbers. The katsu is crispy and very tasty! The breadcrumbs in the coating are fine and not too thick, so it doesn't feel heavy on the stomach. The rice is a mixture of barley and black rice, I think? I love the chewy texture of barley... On top of the rice is a dashimaki tamago. The strong dashi flavor with a hint of salt makes the rice even more enjoyable!! The lettuce and cabbage under the katsu are crunchy and made with fresh vegetables, so I thought it must be a freshly made bento. I definitely want to buy it again! Dinner at Omuraya: I thought it was a small restaurant, but it turned out to be quite deep with enough space for 8 people at one table! The menu is very extensive. It feels like they have almost everything when it comes to Japanese cuisine. I had dashimaki tamago, sesame dumplings, nikujaga, potatoes, corn tempura, fried chicken, simmered fish, oden, mushroom cheese bake, and sweet potato fries, etc. Everything had a homely taste without any pretentiousness, making it feel like you're eating at home, but with the luxury of being able to try many different dishes.

At Omuraya in Hyakumanben, we had a banquet in a separate building. It had a mountain hut-like atmosphere. The shrimp tempura was crispy and delicious. The fried chicken was crunchy and tasty. The salted salmon was okay. The sashimi platter and assorted root vegetables were good. The simmered dish had vibrant flavors. The famous omurice was decent.

I visited an izakaya in Kyoto that was a renovated old traditional house for the second time in 8 years. Just like last time, we had a relatively large group for a party. This time, we opted for the all-you-can-drink option and enjoyed plenty of beer and highballs. The Kyoto-style dishes were delicious as always. The eggplant miso dish I had after 8 years was especially good. We also had tempura, sashimi, fried chicken, river shrimp, edamame, sushi rolls, grilled fish, and more. The amount of food served was overwhelming, but we managed to enjoy it all for only 4000 yen (with the all-you-can-drink option costing 1500 yen). It was a great experience, thank you for the feast.

The Obanzai dishes were all delicious! The table sauce was Snow Brand's Worcester sauce, which was a bit strong and went well with fried foods. I ordered fried sea bream, cheese omelette, yuba sashimi, ham cutlet, and Showa croquette. For dessert, I had plum tea rice and parfait. The yuba sashimi, tea rice, and parfait were especially delicious! The "Omura Parfait" had an an-doughnut with zara me, black stick, elise, and pudding on top, with crushed leaf pie and granola underneath. It's like a parfait for adults filled with the sweets we dreamed of as children. The "Ume Tea Rice" had a grilled rice ball with mixed grains in a dashi tea bowl, served with pickled vegetables and wasabi for seasoning. It was a delicious tea rice that paired well with roasted green tea.

The retro and atmospheric interior of the restaurant was lovely, with a small garden adding to the charm. It was bustling with local families and groups of around 10 foreign and Japanese visitors. My partner and I had a meal for around 6,500 yen. The simmered chili peppers and small dried fish dish really stood out to me and left a lasting impression.

The vegetables are fresh and delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant has a Kyoto feel with a traditional townhouse design. The prices are reasonable and the restaurant is popular with a wide range of customers.
