Located just a few minutes' walk from Kintetsu Ogura Station, we visited this restaurant for our second party. One of our group members, who seemed to be a regular, guided us there. We arrived around 10 pm on a holiday with a group of 8. Luckily, there was a table available for us. After indulging in food and drinks during our first party, changing venues was a refreshing reset for our stomachs and spirits. We mainly enjoyed draft beer and tried a recommended sake called "Choku," which was served in a masu by the staff. It was smooth and easy to drink. We ordered a sashimi platter and assorted sushi, both of which were generously portioned. Personally, I particularly enjoyed the sea urchin battleship sushi. Towards the end, a plate of egg sushi was brought out, which was a unique sight. Apparently, we also had chawanmushi as a finale, although I have no recollection of it due to overindulging. We may have been a bit rowdy, especially with some younger members in our group, but we appreciated the attentive service we received throughout. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Whenever I go back home, I always go to this restaurant with my parents and husband! The fish is not only fresh, but they carefully select delicious ingredients and add their own unique touch, so you can enjoy sushi and fish dishes that you can't find elsewhere. In particular, the fluffy anago sushi, chewy mackerel sushi, and crunchy pike conger eel are exquisite, and you can feel the delicate care that is typical of Kyoto. Additionally, the owner's stories are enjoyable, and the staff are full of intimacy and hospitality like family, so the atmosphere of the restaurant is top-notch!

I was introduced to a sushi restaurant in Uji by a taxi driver who said it was cheap and delicious. The restaurant is located a 5-minute walk from Kogura Station on the Kintetsu Line, just off the main street in a shopping arcade. It's a small, bright, clean and cozy place with 2-3 tables in the front and a counter with about 10 seats in the back. I had the chef's selection of 10 pieces of sushi, all of which were delicious. The highlight was the yellowtail, where I got to taste various parts and it was a new discovery for me. They also offer a wide selection of sake from the local Matsuno Sake Brewery in Fushimi, including some rare ones, which was a delight for sake lovers. We had appetizers, small dishes, 10 pieces of sushi, beer, and about 3 cups of sake, and even received mackerel sushi and a large roll as souvenirs, all for 11,000 yen for two people. It's a great deal considering that the same meal in Kyoto city would easily cost double. It's definitely worth taking the train to come here (about 20 minutes from Kyoto Station). The chef is friendly and meticulous, making it our favorite restaurant. We will definitely visit again when we go to Kyoto.

I have been to the second floor banquet room before, but this was my first time at the counter. I made a reservation by phone and entered at 7:30. There was one other customer already there. I guess Sundays are like this... The chef, the hostess, and two children (a boy and a girl) were working. It was quite lively. The other customer seemed like a regular and was chatting with the chef. I started with sushi right away. I had yellowtail, salmon, squid, egg, eel, sea urchin, natto roll, chawanmushi, and tuna (the fattier part was served as a service). I also had butter-grilled scallops and other dishes. I watched the chef skillfully handle his knife. The chef seemed to enjoy outdoor activities as he had a tan. He mentioned that he had taken a few days off recently. The conversation was interesting, sharp, and the sushi was delicious. The restaurant is not fancy, but the hostess's witty remarks added a nice touch. It's quite rare to allow smoking at the counter seats nowadays. Some people might not like it, so it's something to consider... I also got a sushi roll as a souvenir, and the total bill was a little over 10,000 yen. It's a reasonable price. This chef is definitely entertaining. I will visit again. The food was delicious. Thank you.

I visited a few times but the counter was always full so I went to another restaurant... This time, I called ahead to confirm before visiting. The location is about a 5-minute walk from Kintetsu Kyoto Line Ogura Station West Exit. First, I ordered a sashimi platter, but before that, three small appetizers were served, which surprised me. I was a bit worried that the final bill might be high, but after looking at the menu with prices for a casual dining place, I felt relieved. Now, about the food, the sashimi and sushi were great value for money. The sashimi included three types of tuna and the sushi with conger eel was delicious. Despite being inexpensive, the service was very considerate. I recommend it if you want to enjoy some quick sashimi and sushi!

I visited Hikozushi, a hidden gem in Ogura for the first time. Although I had hesitated to enter before, I finally mustered up the courage during the Ogumania event near Kintetsu Ogura Station. As soon as I stepped inside, I could tell it was a great restaurant supported by regular customers. Every piece of sushi was full of flavor, from the aged sea bream to the fluffy rolled omelette. The drink, three appetizers (sea bream roe, mozuku seaweed, green vegetables), 15 pieces of sushi, chawanmushi, and red miso soup with fish were all included. As a bonus, I also received sashimi of sea bream, grilled yellowtail collar, and grilled squid. I should have visited this place much sooner.
