I stayed at Ukifune-en for my grandmother's first memorial service. I have been using this place for post-funeral gatherings for a long time. There is a unique Kyoto barley tea flavored matcha, which I tried and found quite interesting! Each dish is carefully made and the wild boar hot pot had no gamey taste at all, which was surprising. The portions for individual dishes are on the smaller side, but when you opt for a course, you will leave feeling satisfied. The presentation is vibrant and beautiful, with elegant flavors. I couldn't relax much as I had my child with me, but the staff were kind and the semi-private room allowed us to be less conscious of other customers. Grateful.

I stopped by a restaurant during a drive near the popular Byodoin Temple, which I had never visited before. It was a Japanese restaurant located inside the Hanayashiki Ukifune Garden within the Byodoin Temple grounds. We had lunch in a private room by the Uji River, with a relaxed seating for four people. The lunch set was priced at 3150 yen including tax, and it included a seasonal dish along with a beer for 840 yen. The mochi wrapped in bamboo leaves with sweet bean paste filling was delicious, and the dessert resembling warabi mochi was unique and required using a toothpick to eat. We ended up spending 700 yen for parking, but the staff kindly allowed us to leave our car parked for a couple of hours while we explored the area after our meal. As we left, the staff even came out to see us off, which was a nice touch.

I visited Byodoin and had lunch there. It's a beautiful building. After leaving Byodoin, it's about a 5-minute walk. The view of the Uji River is also nice. They have spacious tatami rooms, private rooms, counter seating, and table seating, so it seems suitable for any occasion. The food is very delicately seasoned. The service staff may lack some manners, but they are all efficient and I didn't have to wait long for my drink order. Thank you for the meal.

I stopped by this restaurant when I was guiding an elderly acquaintance to Uji. The Uji River was flowing vigorously due to the dam release upstream, so we couldn't explore the sandbar as planned, and many shops were closed. We were wondering where to have lunch when we found this restaurant on the first floor of a long, narrow hotel along the river. The interior was also long and narrow, but clean and pleasant. There were several groups of women or couples who seemed to be the other customers, and the age group was quite high, creating a quiet atmosphere for dining. We enjoyed our lunch while admiring the intense flow of the Uji River and the mountains of Sanjo outside the window. The lunch course was around 3000 yen, and it consisted of classic Japanese dishes that people of our age group could enjoy with peace of mind. From appetizers to dessert, we savored each dish visually and tastefully. I thought that sometimes, such a lunch is also a good thing for Japanese people.
