Megaton Kotsu - firm noodles, extra green onions, extra pork fat - 780 yen Fried chicken set (1 large piece of fried chicken and free rice refill) - 270 yen Total: 1050 yen Around 11:40 am on a weekday, when I visited the ramen shop "Kyomenya" in Ichijoji, Kyoto's ramen battleground, the interior was full with no available seats, and there were 7 people waiting outside when I left. The shop boasts of serving the "richest tonkotsu in Ichijoji," so I was excited to try it out! The shop operates on a ticket system, and the ramen options include: - Kyomen Tonkotsu: pork bone and seafood broth - Megaton Kotsu: rich pork bone - Kyomen Triton Kotsu: pork bone and chicken Each priced at 780 yen. They all looked delicious, but I opted for the Megaton Kotsu today, as I was quite hungry, and I also ordered the fried chicken set. The fried chicken was made with chicken thigh meat. I was asked about my preferences at the counter, and I chose firm noodles, extra green onions, and extra pork fat. In less than 5 minutes, my ramen and rice were served. The soup was thick and flavorful, bursting with umami! Considering the location, price, and richness of the broth, this ramen might even surpass nearby shops like Gokkei and Nontetsu in Nara! I was truly impressed by how delicious it was! The noodles were quite curly, and as you slurp them, they pick up the soup, creating an irresistible combination. The bowl came with a large piece of pork, a sheet of seaweed, a half-boiled egg, bamboo shoots, and plenty of green onions, with pork fat floating on top of the soup. The rice also went well with the rich soup! Then, the huge fried chicken arrived! It was massive! I thought I wouldn't be able to finish it, but it looked so delicious that I couldn't resist taking a bite. The freshly fried chicken was incredibly juicy and delicious! After that, I had some cabbage with a refreshing dressing as a palate cleanser, which was a nice contrast to the rich and thick soup. I also added sesame seeds and garlic to customize the flavor. I left the restaurant feeling extremely satisfied and full to the brim! It was a fantastic value for the price, and I wish I had discovered this place sooner. If you're in Ichijoji, be sure to consider visiting this amazing spot! Thank you for the wonderful meal, I will definitely be back!

I had the limited edition "Summer Vegetable Cutlet Curry Tonkotsu." The spicy curry with a rich tonkotsu soup matched perfectly, preventing me from feeling exhausted in the heat. The thick pork cutlet was tender and incredibly delicious. I think I'll try adding extra cutlet next time. Please make this a summer staple! Thank you for the meal.

I was taken to a ramen shop that supposedly serves a rich and seductive ramen. We ordered the Mega Tonkotsu in regular size. The smell wasn't as strong as I expected, and the soup was delicious! The noodles were also amazing, perfectly soaking up the soup. At first, it was... (laughs). This ramen is addictive. Thank you for the meal!

I had the limited edition Spring Salt Tonkotsu ramen! It was my first time trying a salt-based pork bone broth, and it had a very fragrant, elegant flavor. The pickled cherry blossom added a cute touch of spring. I look forward to trying the next limited edition ramen! Thank you as always. It was a delicious meal!

Thick Tonkotsu Ramen (super rich pork bone + seafood) for 780 yen with an additional 270 yen for a fried chicken set meal. Rice refill is free. The ramen has a super rich pork bone soup base combined with several types of fish stock, including dried sardines and bonito, as well as dashi made from kelp from Hokkaido University. No fish powder is used, and the fish stock is carefully prepared separately from the pork bone broth. The fried chicken is made with a large piece of chicken thigh. Despite the thick soup, the seafood flavor balances it out well, making it not too heavy. I found the fried chicken to be even more delicious than before.

I was extremely satisfied. The richness was just right, not overwhelming or forced, truly the best rich flavor. The various ingredients in the soup retain a granular texture, and the overwhelming pork bone flavor is distinct, making it truly unique and strong. For those seeking smoothness or creamy umami, this may not be suitable... Personally, I always argue that rich ramen is a form of molecular gastronomy. Rich soup is essentially liquidized bones and meat, and it is best to chew carefully rather than drink the soup. I feel that rich tonkotsu ramen in the Kansai region gives off a strong impression of "darkness", meaning it is richer than the Hakata white broth, with a deep brown color that seems like meat has been melted into it, found mainly in reckless or bold shops. In such a style, being attacked by the intense darkness of tonkotsu flavor, with its thickness and heavy sensation, it was sometimes impossible to recognize other flavors. This is because the intense umami stimulation can desensitize the taste buds or cause a divergence between texture and flavor. However, this shop does not have issues of "overcrowding" or "over richness". The various umami flavors and the spicy aroma of pepper and green onions do not overpower each other, and the flavors change and develop properly in the mouth. The balance is quite good. The taste also suits the texture of the noodles that are tightly intertwined. It pairs exceptionally well with rice. It truly feels like liquid meat... The texture is amazing, and the taste and mouthfeel are top-notch. The robust soup...! By the way, despite being a shop known for its richness, they also offer a "small" size which is quite appreciated... It is very helpful for those with smaller appetites or for people who want to eat ramen all day long. (Which includes me, of course (-.-;))

Arrived around 11:45 on a holiday. There was one group of three people ahead of us. We were seated right away at the counter. I ordered the Mega Tonkotsu for 780 yen including tax, with an additional flavored egg for 100 yen. I asked for firm noodles, extra green onions, and regular oil. They offer one free refill of noodles, making it a great deal. The pork bone soup was thick and rich. After finishing the refill noodles, there was hardly any soup left. There are not many places that specialize in pork bone broth, so I hope this place continues to do well.

The thick and rich chicken tonkotsu ramen for 780 yen was delicious. I like it thick, so I tried various other thick and heavy ramen shops in the area and they were all great. This ramen had a rich flavor and the toppings were amazing, especially the thinly sliced pork and tender bamboo shoots. The generous amount of green onions added a nice touch. I decided to get the free extra noodles, which were super thin and had a great texture. I also added some habanero for extra spice. The service from the owner and staff was excellent. Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves rich and flavorful ramen. It was delicious, thank you for the meal!

Atmosphere... small ramen shop Cost performance... ★★★★☆ Recommended dish: "Surprising Thick Chicken and Pork Bone Ramen" (¥750) The menu with the word "surprising" in its name is a standout. The thick chicken and pork bone soup is packed with delicious flavors. The pork fat is not overpowering and adds a nice smoothness to the soup. It's the perfect way to recharge your energy. You can choose the firmness of the noodles: extra firm, firm, regular, or soft. I chose extra firm without hesitation. The combination of extra firm noodles and extremely rich soup creates the ultimate form of appetite satisfaction. They also have chicken and pork bone with seafood broth, but I found the chicken and pork bone soup a bit easier to eat. In summary, you can enjoy the surprising richness of the ramen shops in the crowded Ichijoji area of Kyoto. Definitely worth a visit when in Ichijoji. It was delicious! This is my second visit to a shop where you can enjoy rich ramen in Ichijoji. I visited around 6:30 pm on a weekday and was able to enter without waiting in line. I tried the "Surprisingly Rich Chicken Tonkotsu Ramen (¥750)" this time, as I had the seafood pork bone ramen last time. Let's start with the soup... It's delicious! The intensity is amazing as always. Similar to the seafood pork bone ramen, this one also has a strong pork bone flavor throughout. However, this one is more mellow and even people who are not used to heavy flavors may find it relatively easy to eat. The noodles are medium-thin curly noodles with whole wheat flour. I asked for them to be cooked normally, and they have a good firmness with a nice chewiness. They go perfectly with the soup. You can get a free extra serving of noodles and a free topping with a voucher. The service is warm and friendly, and there's nothing to complain about. I will definitely come back. Thank you for the meal!

Arrived 10 minutes before opening on a holiday. Got a seat right away. Mega Tonkotsu Ramen for 750 yen including tax, with free extra noodles day (^ ^) Noodle firmness, green onions, and pork fat all normal. The default is medium-thick curly noodles. Inside the restaurant, there are writings expressing their passion for ramen and gratitude for receiving the semi-grand prix award, making me feel their love for ramen and pork bone broth. The soup has a gritty texture from crushed bones and a high viscosity, but it's very easy to eat and delicious. After the extra noodles (thin noodles), I added pickled ginger and sesame seeds for a change in flavor. Both were delicious. Personally, I would prefer thin noodles as the default. Also received a free topping coupon, so the cost performance is very high.

Located in the fierce battleground of Ichijoji, you can enjoy the "most intense tonkotsu ramen in Ichijoji" here. It's great that they focus specifically on tonkotsu. They also have "Kyokutei" so that's funny. I visited around 12pm on a weekday and waited in line for about 5 minutes. I tried the "Kyounou Tonkotsu" (¥750) first, starting with the soup...! It's delicious! The intensity is incredible. It's thick, almost like a solid. There is no doubt that this is the most intense soup after "Kyokutei" in Ichijoji. The classic "Kyounou Tonkotsu" combines a base of tonkotsu soup with seafood broth, but honestly, I didn't feel much of the seafood flavor. However, it's so delicious that it doesn't really matter. It's thick and rich, with the direct umami of tonkotsu. It leaves a gritty texture on the tongue. The noodles are medium-thin curly noodles with whole wheat flour. You can choose the firmness. They do a great job of holding up the thick soup. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

I went to Sakyo Ward for work. Every time I come to this area, I try various ramen shops, which are always a fierce battleground. But I still have a long way to go before conquering them all. This time, I went to "Kuramenya," and I ordered their recommended menu item, the "Surprising Rich Tonkotsu Ramen" in regular size. You can customize each ramen menu item when you order, such as noodle firmness, amount of green onions, level of back fat, and other toppings. This time, I asked for firm noodles, extra green onions, and extra back fat. While waiting for my order, I read about the shop's commitment to their ramen. After a while, the ramen arrived. Ta-da! The presentation was quite impressive. First, the soup was thick and rich. I reset my palate with the green onions before eating the noodles. The thick curly noodles were heavily coated in soup. This was amazing! I've never had anything like it before. It's even thicker than the famous restaurant "Tenkaippin." I slowly savored each bite. The rich and delicious soup was a bit heavy for this middle-aged man. But younger people might enjoy ordering extra noodles (thin noodles). I thought that thin noodles might be better by default, and the seaweed didn't quite match. I might try ordering a small size of the Surprising Rich Tonkotsu Ramen next time. If I were younger, I would also want to try their fried chicken along with the ramen.

This restaurant specializes in super rich pork bone ramen, boasting the most intense pork bone in Ichijoji. The ramen options include the shockingly rich pork bone and seafood tonkotsu, pork bone and chicken, vegetable-rich chicken tonkotsu, and the mega-tonkotsu pork bone. You can choose the firmness of the noodles, the amount of green onions, and the level of back fat. I ordered the "Shockingly Rich Tonkotsu Ramen (750 yen)." It has a thick, murky, soy sauce-flavored pork bone soup. It is oily, but very thick and concentrated. The taste is sweet and fragrant with seafood flavors. The noodles are medium-thick with a slight curl. Given the nature of the soup, I was worried the noodles might get lost, so I opted for them to be cooked "firm," which turned out to be the right choice. Overall, this is a very heavy ramen.

After a long time, I was cycling around Ichijoji when I spotted a ramen shop I had never been to before. I remembered seeing it in a ramen magazine recently, where it had won an honorable mention. So, I decided to go in. The shop seemed to specialize in rich tonkotsu ramen, as evident from its exterior and posters, but I didn't have any more information than that. I ordered the "Surprising Rich Tonkotsu" (750 yen) and the "Karaage Set" (250 yen) from the ticket machine near the entrance. The Karaage Set came with unlimited rice. The kitchen staff, who seemed to be the owner, was busy preparing the dishes, while the floor staff, mostly women, were very friendly and welcoming. You could choose the firmness of the noodles, the amount of fat, and the amount of green onions. I went with normal firmness, extra fat, and extra green onions. The ramen arrived shortly after. In addition to the green onions and fat I had ordered, it had thick slices of bamboo shoots, chashu, menma, and a thick, muddy soup peeking through the gaps! When you scoop from the bottom with the spoon, you can feel the incredible viscosity of the soup, reminiscent of places like Mutteppou and Kyokutei. The medium-thick curly noodles paired well with it! It was a deliciously authentic tonkotsu ramen that would surely appeal to many. Each ingredient in the ramen was carefully and skillfully made, making it tasty. But what surprised me even more was how delicious the unlimited white rice was. And the karaage, which was the size of a child's shoe, was more like a karaage steak. And it was delicious! When I asked for an extra serving of noodles (thin noodles) for 100 yen, it turned out to be free today, which was another surprise. It was a series of surprises, living up to its name. However, the meticulousness and seriousness of the owner were apparent in the explanations on the vinegar and sauce bottles in the shop, as well as in the side menu. It was easy to imagine a serious and meticulous owner behind the scenes. The ramen made by this owner was naturally delicious, but if there had been some innovative ideas to set it apart from others in terms of taste, the evaluation would have been much higher. This shop is rare in the Ichijoji area of Kyoto for its rich tonkotsu ramen, and it exudes a sense of rarity and reliability. But I would like to see it take another step forward. I'm rooting for you! Thanks for the meal. I will definitely come back to try the Mega Tonkotsu!

[Rich Tonkotsu] [Noodles] Regular straight noodles [Toppings] Pork chashu (2 slices), chopped green onions, menma [Soup] Super rich tonkotsu + seafood. The soup was quite rich with plenty of fish powder, the noodles really soaked up the soup making it quite heavy... The menma was crispy and refreshing, changing the taste with vinegar made it much easier to eat. The mega size seems outrageous... [Mild Tonkotsu] [Noodles] Regular straight noodles [Toppings] Pork chashu (2 slices), chopped green onions, menma, flavored egg (half) [Soup] Light seafood tonkotsu. It claims to be light but it's okay, not too bad, a bit steamy. Compared to the rich tonkotsu, it's still relatively light. This one was easier to eat, with plenty of fish powder in the soup. I arrived at the restaurant after 12 o'clock, and there was a helpful guide outside the shop for choosing ramen according to your preferences. There were four types of ramen on the menu, all priced the same. I ordered the most rich-looking one, the "Surprising Rich Tonkotsu" (750 yen). I requested firm noodles, extra green onions, and normal amount of pork fat. The bowl that arrived was topped with plenty of chopped green onions and bamboo shoots, with pork fat drizzled on top, and hidden underneath were slices of char siu. The soup was incredibly rich and thick, with a strong seafood flavor and a rich, heavy pork bone umami. It had a good amount of oil and a strong pork bone smell, but the flavor was delicious, like the concentrated umami of pork bones. The noodles were medium-thin curly noodles, slightly undercooked to give a slightly firm and chewy texture that allowed the soup to cling to them. Initially, the firmness of the noodles stood out, but as time passed, they softened and became more elastic as they absorbed the soup. The char siu was so tender that it fell apart easily with chopsticks, and it paired well with the rich soup. By adding condiments like pickled ginger, mustard greens, garlic chives, sesame seeds, and kelp vinegar as I ate, I was able to enjoy different flavors. Among the various condiments, I particularly liked the kelp vinegar, mustard greens, and pickled ginger. The kelp vinegar added a slight tanginess that enhanced the umami of the soup. Among the ramen shops in Kyoto, this ramen stood out for its rich tonkotsu soup, making it highly recommended for those who enjoy rich flavors. Personally, I also really enjoyed the rich tonkotsu soup.

I wanted to eat a rich ramen until my stomach was full, so I decided to visit Kyo-menya for the first time. I had passed by the restaurant many times in my car, but never actually went in. Today, I decided to park at the coin parking lot near the restaurant and walked over. As soon as I arrived, I could smell the pork bone broth from outside. I was lucky because they were offering one free extra serving of noodles today. I decided to order the Mega Tonkotsu Chashu Ramen with an extra serving of noodles and a side of rice. The restaurant had a small seating area with counter seats and one table. I sat at the counter and placed my order. The ramen came with various toppings like seaweed, seasoned egg, and bamboo shoots. The soup was thick and flavorful, with a strong pork bone and soy sauce taste. The noodles were cooked just right and coated well with the soup. The chashu was tender and delicious. I also enjoyed the free rice with toppings like pickled ginger and garlic. I ordered an extra serving of noodles and enjoyed the thinner noodles with the flavorful broth. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, and I would definitely visit this restaurant again if I were a student.

I ordered the Mega Tonkotsu and Seafood Tonkotsu ramen. The Mega Tonkotsu was quite thick and creamy, similar to a ramen shop in Onozono Bridge. They offer one free extra noodle refill and unlimited rice, and the boiled egg is included as a standard topping. The staff were friendly and had a good service attitude. I may not go back again, but overall it was a positive experience.

Kyoto Ramen ULTRA BINGO 6th stop. Located a little up from the ramen street in Takano, Kyoto. Since there is no parking lot, you might have to use the nearby parking lot and walk a bit. This time, I ordered the most rich and thick Tonkotsu ramen for 750 yen, with an option for free rice refill for 150 yen. When ordering, you can choose the firmness of the noodles, the amount of green onions, and the amount of lard. I chose everything to the left (extra firm, extra green onions, rich). The ramen that came out had thin curly noodles with plenty of lard in the rich soup, topped with seaweed, chashu, green onions, and maybe some bamboo shoots? The taste of the rich ramen with everything to the left was... bold and reckless. No, it was definitely more delicious than the reckless ramen I had in Osaka last time. If it's this rich, having less oil might make it easier to eat with a better balance. They provide spicy toppings like spicy takana (pickled mustard greens), red pickled ginger, and garlic chives for flavor variation. The rice was slightly firm, but with free refills, it's not a problem. If you like rich and thick ramen, it might be worth a visit. However, tastes may vary. Personally, it was good.

[Megaton Kotsu] In the fiercely competitive ramen district of Ichijoji in Kyoto, you can find the rich tonkotsu ramen served at "Noko Ramenya." This popular restaurant opened in December 2016. I arrived at the restaurant around 9 pm and had to wait a bit as it was full. Once inside, I checked the menu and ordered the Megaton Kotsu for 750 yen. The ramen arrived with medium-thin curly noodles that were deliciously firm. The soup was a thick, creamy tonkotsu broth that was heavy and rich. It had a strong pork bone flavor, and the seasoning was also on the stronger side. The soup was addictive and seemed to be enjoyed by many. The toppings included thinly sliced chashu and flavorful bamboo shoots. It was a bold and intense ramen. We also shared a chicken and pork bone ramen, which was easier to eat than the Megaton Kotsu but still quite rich. Overall, it was a delicious meal. Thank you.
