A friend recommended this restaurant to me, which was a renovated family home. It felt like stepping into a nostalgic grandma's house. As someone who grew up in the countryside, the building seemed minimalistic yet charming, almost like a miniature version of a traditional Japanese house. The outside garden reflected a beautiful shade of green into the room, and on a sunny day like today, it was mesmerizing. Every customer in the room seemed to be part of a scene from a movie, especially a young father and his little daughter. Now, onto the food. I wanted something delicious but not heavy. I didn't want to gain weight, being in my picky eating phase, but this lunch satisfied me perfectly. It wasn't super cheap, but the elaborate dishes and handmade konjac made from potatoes made it worth it. The tofu-like texture of the okara with mayonnaise tasted like potato salad, and the vegetables were delicious. The konjac cutlet had a crispy, flavorful coating... The miso soup was tasty, and the rice had the perfect firmness. The soy milk pudding with a coupon was also delicious. The tea had a unique taste, almost like playing in the dirt (laughs). I definitely want to come back to this restaurant.

I visited for lunch. I arrived 10 minutes before the 11:00 opening, but there were already nearly 10 people lined up, probably because it was a Saturday. The restaurant is not very big, so it quickly filled up! I recommend making a reservation. Some walk-in customers had to wait at the entrance for a while. For lunch, you get rice, 5 side dishes, and miso soup, with a choice of 5 main dishes. I chose the "Chicken ham and crispy konjac cutlet." My friend had the "Eggplant tempura." The chicken ham came with grated daikon, and the homemade konjac cutlet had a nice texture! All 5 side dishes were delicious. I was surprised that the dried radish was curry-flavored. The atmosphere was nice, a calm space with gentle-tasting dishes that made me feel warm and cozy.

This shop is located in a slightly hard-to-find place, using an old traditional Japanese house. They serve obanzai, and I chose the "Arranged Konnyaku and Oboro Tofu" set. It was delicious. I tried to guess the seasonings used in the obanzai while eating. The only disappointment was that the dashi in the oboro tofu was too spicy. I would like to visit again.

After a long business trip with high-fat, high-calorie meals, I was looking for a lunch that would be gentle on my body. The restaurant was located near Heian Shrine, amidst a crowd of tourists, but it was tucked away in a quiet area a couple of streets over. The lunch set I chose included a main dish with rice, miso soup, and side dishes. I opted for chicken ham and crispy konjac cutlets. The side dishes consisted of dried daikon radish, simmered hijiki seaweed, okara salad, carrot rapé, and sashimi-like konjac. The side dishes weren't necessarily "delicious," but they were comforting and familiar like home-cooked meals, which was exactly what I was looking for. The chicken ham was moist and tasty, unlike the dry texture I usually associate with chicken breast. The interior of the restaurant, renovated from an old merchant house, was calm and popular not only with young women but also with older ladies.

I had some business in Kyoto. It had been a while since I had some free time for lunch in Kyoto. I found a healthy lunch restaurant near Heian Shrine. As expected, the restaurant was a renovated traditional house, which is common for nice places in Kyoto. The menu consisted of healthy options, but they were also creative and resembled homemade dishes. I ordered a set of small dishes for two people, trying to sample as many dishes as possible. The dishes we were able to enjoy included: konjac sashimi, carrot salad, okara salad, minced tofu, deep-fried eggplant sandwiches, crispy konjac nuggets, konjac cutlets, konjac in sweet and sour sauce, and chicken ham. The highlight was the creativity and variety in konjac dishes. They were like cutlets or nuggets, served with grated daikon radish or tartar sauce. It felt like exploring a whole new world of konjac dishes in one go.

Near Kyoto Municipal Subway Higashiyama Station, there is a charming cafe called "Kominka Cafe Usagi no Ippo". The atmosphere is wonderful with a lovely garden. They offer Row Cakes (gluten-free with plenty of enzymes, in lemon, chocolate, and banana flavors) for 600 yen, along with coffee for 400 yen. It's a place where you can feel elegant and beautiful.

This is a restaurant located a little off the path from Jingu-michi towards Heian Shrine from Higashiyama Station, which used to be the owner's family home. There is no waiting area, so you wait at the entrance without going up, with a maximum capacity of about 6-8 people. The floor is tatami (with tables) where you take off your shoes, giving it a nostalgic feel like visiting your grandmother's house. There are six lunch options, each served with five side dishes. What's great is that you can add an additional dish for around 220 yen. This time, I ordered the fried eggplant set with konjac Nanban tartar sauce. The side dishes included dried daikon radish, simmered hijiki seaweed, okara salad, carrot salad, and sliced konjac sashimi, with the okara salad being a unique and delicious surprise. Each dish was tasty, and the variety of side dishes allowed me to enjoy a little bit of everything. The fried eggplant was firm and paired well with the light broth, while the konjac Nanban had a crispy coating and delicious tartar sauce, making it a standout main dish. It was a lunch experience that truly captured the essence of Kyoto through all five senses.

I had made a reservation for lunch at a restaurant in Kyoto, but they were fully booked except for the time slot between 11:00 and 12:00. When I arrived at 11:30, I was the 5th in line. I ordered the Arranged Konnyaku and Oboro Tofu set meal, as well as the Chicken Ham and Arare Konnyaku Cutlet set meal. The taste was not bad, but the oil used for frying was not good and caused heartburn. The tea was also unpleasant. The service was lacking, as the staff did not guide us to our seats until a complete turnover of customers. In terms of price and taste, it was average for this area in Kyoto. If asked whether I would go for lunch in Osaka instead, I would say yes. In my experience, aside from Umekado, I have not found any other restaurants in Kyoto that I would consider delicious. Every time I eat in Kyoto, I am reminded of how lucky I am to be from Osaka. I would rate this restaurant around 3.2, as it falls into the category of "might go if there are no other options."

Met up with my daughter at Yamashina Station, took the subway to Heian Jingu Shrine today, with the main purpose being the Heian Rakuichi at Okazaki Park. It seems like the situation with COVID has calmed down a bit, as the markets at Shimogamo Shrine and Kamigamo Shrine have reopened. It's great news! The cherry blossoms are starting to fall, but the weather was nice and we had a great time. Now, this place is about a 5-minute walk from the Heian Rakuichi venue. We made a reservation the day before our visit. The restaurant has about 25 seats, including tables and a counter, and it was already full of reserved customers when it opened. As expected, it's a popular place. For lunch, you choose a main dish. It comes with 5 side dishes, rice, miso soup, and pickles. My daughter had an assortment of 4 different types of konjac and minced tofu for ¥1430, plus soy milk pudding for ¥220. I had a platter of Kyoto pickles and deep-fried konjac cutlets with eggplant tempura for ¥1600. The side dishes were all delicious!!! The tofu tasted like potato salad with mayonnaise, it was amazing! The konjac cutlet was so good that I couldn't believe it was made of konjac. The konjac in sweet and sour sauce tasted just like chicken with tartar sauce. Everything was delicious. The highlight was definitely the soy milk pudding. Make sure to have it as a dessert! Highly recommended.

I met up with two friends and went out for lunch. We were taken to a nice restaurant in sunny Kyoto. The dining room had tatami mats, tables, and chairs, and we had to take off our shoes. The weather was just right, with a pleasant breeze in the front and back gardens. We ordered a lunch set with a variety of fried konjac dishes. There were also many side dishes like rice, miso soup, and oboro tofu. The fried konjac with rice cracker coating was especially interesting, with different textures. The tartar sauce on some dishes made it hard to tell that they were made with konjac. The spicy konjac side dish was delicious and really increased our appetite. The pickles hidden in the miso soup were also a standout.

This restaurant, which is a renovated old folk house, can sometimes have a line, but it is relatively easy to get in even on holidays. They mainly serve konjac dishes, so you can enjoy fried food in a relatively healthy way. Dishes like hijiki are made with a refreshing vinegar-based sauce instead of soy sauce and sugar, so they are very easy to eat! The oboro tofu was delicious♪

This is a shop renovated from an old machiya in Kyoto. I had the Kyoto pickles assortment, arare konjac cutlet, and eggplant sandwich tempura for 1600 yen. You can escape the hustle and bustle of tourist spots and feel like you've been invited to a nice house in Kyoto. The tea served was either homemade hojicha or a different kind, but it had a strong taste and was hard to drink. The meal was a set of homemade konjac dishes. The portion was small, but since I was planning to go for snacks or coffee afterwards, it was enough for me. Lunch options often lean towards pasta or hearty meals, so a lunch like this, carefully prepared home-cooked meal, is valuable. After finishing the meal, I felt like it was a bit pricey, but considering the location and the effort put into it, I think it's understandable.

After visiting the Museum of Modern Art (Discovering Japanese Landscapes), I stopped by this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't just a trendy townhouse-style place, but rather a spot where older women prepare authentic Kyoto home-cooked dishes. The Kyoto green tea was a great start, and the broth was delicious. The Kyoto style tends to be slightly sweet. The homemade konjac rice cracker tempura was amazing. The "Pickled Vegetables and Home-cooked Dishes Set for 1500 yen" was a delightful treat.

The konjac cutlet was very healthy and I thought it was meat at first. The sashimi konjac was also very delicious. The restaurant is in a house with a garden, creating a cozy atmosphere. The toilet was clean and there were cute rabbits around.

(2021.03/First visit) Uzagi no Ippo in Okazaki, Kyoto, is a lovely café located in the charming Okazaki area, especially beautiful during cherry blossom season. Situated just behind the Kyoto Ceramic Museum, it is a hidden gem off the main street of Nio-mon. This café specializes in healthy dishes, as its name suggests. The atmosphere is serene, with rabbit motifs from the Choju-giga (animal caricature) adorning the hand-washing basin and noren curtain. During my visit, the café was filled with female customers, so apologies to the gentlemen who may feel out of place. I enjoyed a meal in the traditional house café while admiring the garden view. From the popular regular menu, I tried the following dishes:
- Hanbunko (Half and Half) Set (¥1600): Homemade sashimi konjac, rice with ankake sauce, and curry. This set combines the best of two popular dishes.
- Curry: Slightly spicy curry with a smooth texture that does not overpower the side dishes. The side dishes included hijiki and lettuce with okara mayo salad, half a boiled egg, simmered root vegetables, and konjac fry. The konjac tempura had a delightful sesame oil fragrance and paired surprisingly well with the curry.
- Ankake Rice: A gentle ankake sauce over rice with various side dishes, including konjac tempura.
Additionally, I tried the following items:
- Crispy Cheese Fritters (¥500): Exactly as described. This would be perfect with a cold beer in hand for a casual snack.
- Assorted Side Dishes (¥600): A variety of side dishes like konjac, fried pumpkin, and simmered vegetables, all with a mild and delightful flavor.
The service was attentive yet unobtrusive, matching the tranquil ambiance of the café. If you appreciate this kind of atmosphere, you will surely enjoy your visit. Overall, a delightful dining experience at Uzagi no Ippo.

I happened to pass by at lunchtime and saw a sign saying you can eat curry and konjac cutlet. I was intrigued and decided to visit. I ordered the half-and-half dish with konjac cutlet and curry, the chicken cutlet bowl, carrot salad, and beef tendon stew. I enjoyed a leisurely meal in a seat where I could see a small garden, feeling elegant. The small items were also stylish. The place had a hidden old house vibe. All the dishes were delicious and served in beautiful dishes. I felt like I had found a good restaurant! The female owner was also kind and provided pleasant service. I would like to come back again. Thank you for the meal.

I visited after a long time and noticed that the Taisho to Showa retro style has been toned down, with retro low tables being replaced by modern tables and chairs. The Wuhan virus has caused various changes, with a drastic decrease in tourists leading to a shift in menus in Kyoto. Instead of traditional obanzai and set menus, curry with homemade konjac has become the main offering at many places. Despite this, I chose some obanzai dishes a la carte. The assortment of obanzai was quite good and served as a nice appetizer. The children enjoyed the cheese with fried items more than the fried potatoes. The chicken cutlet with egg topping, known as "tai-nuki," was a great beer snack. The grilled chicken harami was also well-received by the kids.

I went around 1 PM on a regular weekday and the restaurant was about 60% full. The atmosphere inside was quiet and calming. I ordered the mackerel simmered in miso and hot tofu set meal. It came with 5 side dishes, rice, and pickles. Each side dish was carefully prepared and delicious. For dessert, they served homemade pudding which was light and very tasty.

I went there after 2 o'clock and had to wait quite a bit because there were not many seats. I couldn't decide on a main dish, so I ended up getting a set of four: tofu hamburger, chicken nanban, eggplant sandwiched and plum shiso sandwiched.

Before visiting Heian Shrine, we had lunch. It was a holiday at 12 o'clock noon and it was raining, so the restaurant seemed to have a good amount of customers (not too crowded). I had the obanzai set for lunch. The main dishes were Nishikyo-yaki and deep-fried tofu, which were very delicious. The miso soup was a bit strong in flavor, but everything else tasted just right and was delicious. The white rice was also very tasty and I wanted to eat more (laughs). It was nice that they placed a pot of hot tea on the table. The soy milk pudding for dessert was creamy and very delicious, I was completely satisfied. I don't get to come here often, but I definitely want to come back again. It felt like being at home and I felt warm and cozy.

I recommend this restaurant in Kyoto for sightseeing. It has a beautiful garden, delicious Japanese food, and is close to tourist attractions. However, it is always crowded on weekends. We had to wait for about an hour before we could get a table. The lunch set with a variety of side dishes, a choice of main dish, and dessert was delicious. The roasted green tea was a bit bitter, but it paired well with the black sesame tofu pudding. Unfortunately, my friends from overseas didn't enjoy either of them. Thank you for the meal.
