My husband and I visited the place. We went to a famous store in the Uji shopping street around 2 pm on a weekday, but the waiting time was 38 minutes with 19 groups ahead, so we gave up and went to Tsujiri nearby. There is a cafe space at the back of the store, and we were able to enter without waiting. We ordered using the QR code on our smartphones. Since it was after lunch, we weren't very hungry. My husband ordered a "rich matcha smoothie" and I ordered a "cold matcha zenzai (with roasted green tea)". The smoothie had plenty of whipped cream that my husband, who loves whipped cream, enjoyed! The crunchy smoothie was refreshing, cold, and just sweet enough, very delicious. My matcha zenzai was not sweet at all, with the perfect amount of sweetness from the ice and red beans, very tasty. In terms of quantity, I felt a little unsatisfied... haha. The roasted green tea that came with it lacked a bit of aroma. It was intentionally served at room temperature, I suppose. It was served in the same glass as water, so it felt a bit plain. I wish they had used a more appealing glass. The store is small, but you can see the garden from the window, which makes it a cozy atmosphere. It was nice to be able to enter without waiting in the heat, and the matcha is definitely delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I arrived around 11:45. I was prepared for a long wait at the traditional Japanese sweets shops in this area, but when I entered, I didn't have to wait at all. It was perfect timing as a group had just left. There was a menu at the entrance, so I quickly decided on what to order. I ordered the "Matcha Parfait." It was served with matcha syrup and I was instructed to pour it over the dessert as it was sweet. The parfait had matcha ice cream, red bean paste, whipped cream on top, and matcha flakes, matcha jelly, and a rich matcha base at the bottom. I was able to fully enjoy the matcha flavor.

I came here to have tea. It was the last day of the three-day weekend, but Uji was crowded with tourists, and there was quite a long line. After waiting for about 20 minutes, we were seated. The shop is small because it also has a shop inside. The space between seats seemed narrow. Despite the hot weather, we were guided to the terrace seats. You can choose between terrace seats and indoor seats. We were seated in the sunniest spot on the terrace, and it was extremely hot. - "Matcha Shaved Ice from Chaso" Uji Kin Toki 935 yen - Cold Matcha Zenzai (with roasted tea) 935 yen But as expected from Tsujiri, the matcha was authentic and incredibly delicious. The taste is guaranteed. Despite the scorching terrace seats, we revived with the shaved ice. When in doubt, go to Tsujiri. I'm glad I was able to visit the main store!

I visited the restaurant around 13:30 on a regular day. It was great to have no wait time when there was a 95-minute wait. I sat at the terrace and ordered using my smartphone. The staff was unfriendly and separate registers were not allowed. However, I appreciated the effort to adjust the change for easy splitting. The Uji Kinjou had a strong matcha flavor with a subtle sweetness. The red bean paste and shiratama were served separately. The taste was average. It was a small place, but I had a nice time enjoying the garden view.

"Tsujiri" in Uji, Kyoto, with a history of 160 years since its founding. Tsujiri was founded by the first generation, Tsuji Riemmon, in Uji, Kyoto in 1860. Recently, it has been popular and talked about due to collaborations with Mister Donut and Nekoneko Pan. When I visited in the evening, I was prepared for long lines, but surprisingly, I was able to enter smoothly without any wait! Since the weather was nice, I ordered the matcha zenzai on the terrace. The cold matcha zenzai is a summer limited edition item, so I had the warm zenzai! The combination of the slightly bitter matcha and sweet red beans was excellent, allowing me to enjoy a luxurious adult dessert! Thank you for the meal ☺︎"

I always have warm Gyokuro tea here! Even when it's hot, I still prefer it warm (lol). Whenever I want my first cup of Gyokuro, I make sure to visit Uji and go to a few places. This time, I didn't have much time so I only went to this place, but it was delicious! However, it was a hot day and sitting in the garden was a bit uncomfortable because the sun was strong and there wasn't much shade.

I went to Byodoin Temple and got thirsty, so I bought a cute bottle of tea from a shop nearby. They were out of hojicha, so I got both in matcha flavor instead! There is a cafe inside, but it was unclear where to buy the bottle or how to line up. I thought the taste would be stronger, but it was actually quite weak... I expected more from the appearance. I had high hopes because I associate Uji tea with good quality matcha, but oh well, thank you for the meal!

Kyoto Uji, one of Japan's top tea spots, Tsujiri Uji Main Store. In Uji, there are many historic tea shops like Nakamura Tokichi Main Store and Itohkyuemon. Today, we visited this shop. When in Kyoto, you must try their matcha sweets. The shop sells sweets that make great gifts and also has a café with a nice atmosphere. We enjoyed delicious matcha sweets in a cozy setting. I used a cafe! It was outdoors! Even though it was hot, the cold drinks were refreshing! I ordered a milk kakigori, matcha parfait, matcha milk, and hojicha milk, but they brought out a different hojicha milk by mistake! The menu can be confusing, right? The matcha milk was delicious at first, then the parfait was also delicious, but by the time I got to the kakigori, the excitement had worn off as the flavors were all the same! Maybe making everything the same flavor was a mistake? The hojicha, which I had hot, was a bit bitter but had a tea-like taste. It was easy to drink though! The matcha milk was really tasty!

I'm not particularly interested in matcha itself. However, I stopped by for a break after touring Uji in the rain and feeling tired. I noticed they had something called matcha beer on the menu, which piqued my interest. It took a while for it to be served, so I wondered if they were changing the keg. But it turns out, it was quite different. It was prepared like a beer cocktail, with various ingredients. When I took a sip, the bitterness of the beer and matcha blended together in a very intriguing way. It was quite unique and I enjoyed trying something different.

Visit GW Nakamura Tokichi in the evening. They offer Uji tea made with inherited techniques and Japanese sweets made with freshly ground Uji matcha. It's quite crowded here. It's almost impossible to get in without a reservation. However, if you just want a short break, you can get in within about 10 minutes, making it a great spot for adult relaxation. On a side note, Nakamura Tokichi Honten had a 2-hour wait.=======MENU=======◆Chilled Shiratama ZenzaiRating on Tabelog: 3.07Cost: Up to 999 yenInstagram: tam_gourmet_

I really wanted to eat a matcha parfait, so I went to another popular shop but there was a 20-group wait. I decided to go to this shop instead where there was only a 2-group wait. We were seated right away, and I ordered the parfait while my partner ordered warabi mochi. After waiting about 15 minutes, my partner's warabi mochi arrived. At that moment, they told me, "The parfait is sold out." I was surprised and thought they should have mentioned that when I ordered, or at least checked before bringing out my partner's order. Since my partner's item had already arrived, I felt bad ordering something else just for myself, so I reluctantly ordered a different item. All the items were just typical souvenirs sold at Kyoto Station, presented on a plate. They looked good in photos, but the taste was on par with souvenirs you can buy at the station. If I ever visit this town again, I've decided that even if there's a long wait, I'll go to the other shop next time. Overall, the staff weren't particularly friendly.

I purchased Kyoto Lang from Tsujiri Uji Main Store♪ I have eaten Kyoto Lang several times before♪ It is my favorite matcha Langue de Chat among all. (๑≧◡≦๑)。ෆ ■Kyoto Lang 10 pieces 1,404 yen (including tax) 16 pieces 2,236 yen (including tax) It is a Langue de Chat cookie sandwich that expresses the rich taste of matcha whipped with a tea whisk using airy chocolate. It is delicious no matter how many times I eat it. (○´艸`)♪ Just for your reference, Tsujiri's Kyoto Lang♪

Trip to Kyoto in November 2021. After visiting the Kinkaku-ji Temple, I had a tea time at Tsujiri Honten. I ordered the Gyokuro Set (cold) for 800 yen. The Gyokuro served in a glass beaker was surprisingly smooth and delicious with a homemade sweet monaka. The sweetness of the monaka paired perfectly with the Gyokuro. I also tried the Tsujiri Ice Cream Set for 700 yen, which included green tea ice cream, hojicha ice cream, and two rusks. Everything was elegant and delicious.

I had "Cold Matcha Zenzai" at Tsujiri Uji Honten. It was a hot day during the rainy season ☀️, so I chose the cold matcha zenzai. It was delicious, but I felt that it lacked impact. The matcha flavor was weak.

After having lunch at Hanare Nakamura Seimen, I took a leisurely stroll to Byodoin Temple while pushing a wheelchair. The weather was warm and sunny today. My companion wanted to eat some matcha ice cream, so we stopped by here. Just like the nearby Nakamura Fujikichi Main Store and Ito Kyuemon Main Store, this is a historic tea shop. The elegant atmosphere inside the shop includes a hidden kitchen on the left, table seating on the right, a neatly maintained garden with terrace seating, and a variety of tea-related products displayed in the front. I ordered the matcha ice cream and enjoyed it on a bench outside. It was not soft serve, but a round scoop with the shop's name printed on a white chocolate stick. The matcha flavor was rich and delicious. After cooling down, we headed to Byodoin Temple. Overall, the service was good. Thank you for the meal. Personal notes: wheelchair accessibility not confirmed, restroom not checked, no parking available.

Tsujiri Uji Main Store. You can enjoy matcha at a reasonable price. Uji Matcha Green Tea for 250 yen, Uji Cold Tea Matcha Bottle for 500 yen. You can taste the rich matcha flavor. The green tea is slightly sweet, but it will warm you up from the inside out during the cold winter. It's nice that you can take the bottle home with you.

After enjoying delicious soba noodles in Uji, I felt like having some tea sweets. I crossed Uji Bridge and strolled down Uji Bridge Street, just south of JR Uji Station. The popular "Maru ni Ju" shop had a long line even on a weekday, so I decided to move on. I walked a bit east and arrived at Tsujiri. Luckily, there was no wait for the tea house. I sat in the terrace seat, enjoying the favorite season of the year. I ordered the "Warabi mochi (with ice cream)" - matcha warabi mochi, matcha ice cream, red bean paste, and rice dumplings with extra matcha powder. It was the perfect treat for my tired body on a beautiful day. Now, back to work. Thank you for the meal.

Established in 1860 (the first year of the Man'en era), Tsujiri has been a renowned tea house that laid the foundation for Uji tea. The Tsujiri family lineage has been passed down through generations, with branches such as Gion Tsujiri, Tsujiri Heeemon Honten, and Tsujiri Ipponten, all upholding the original founder's dedication to providing high-quality tea. Tsujiri Uji Honten is located about a 5-minute walk from Uji Station on the JR Nara Line. They offer a set of tea with handmade senbei (rice crackers) and "Gyokuro" tea.

When I visited Byodoin Temple in Uji at the end of last year, I stopped by Tsujiri Honten on the approach. It is a long-established store founded in the Man'en era. I thought that tea would be the best souvenir from Uji. Although you can buy leaf tea anywhere in Tokyo, I decided to buy matcha since I was here. Matcha is not something that modern people normally drink. Even if you buy it, you may not know how to drink it. You may not have the tools needed. Fortunately, I used to drink it in the past, so I decided to give it a try again. I bought it at the end of the year, but I didn't get around to trying it until February. I finally took out the utensils, bought some Japanese sweets, and tried it. However, since it had been a while, I had completely forgotten how to prepare it. How many scoops of tea should I use? How much hot water? What temperature should the water be? How much should I whisk it? I managed to drink it somehow. I used a little more tea, poured too much hot water, and whisked it enough but the amount of foam was about 80% of what I like. I used a cheap tea bowl for practice. Next time, I will use a slightly better tea bowl. It was my first time drinking tea (usucha) in a while, so it wasn't prepared perfectly, but the taste was okay. This time, I bought a 30g bag of Kiri no Mori matcha for 1300 yen. I didn't feel much bitterness. I prefer a slightly stronger taste. I remember drinking Ichibadou matcha that my mother used to buy, which tasted better. Maybe I had too high expectations. My taste buds may have changed too. I want to drink it every day for a while. Drinking usucha is not something that regular households do often. It might be a drink that is more Japanese-like.
