Nestled quietly in the Higashiyama district, this traditional Kyoto restaurant exudes elegance from its exterior, truly capturing the essence of Kyoto. I opted for the tofu course, which was a delightful experience. The yudofu was simple yet flavorful, perfectly complementing the broth. The dishes like kanimiso tofu and agar tofu offered a sophisticated yet deeply satisfying taste. My personal favorite was the nama yuba, a rare find that delighted my taste buds with its unique flavor. Despite feeling a bit out of place as a student, the attentive service from the staff made it a very satisfying evening.

It was a delicious and healthy tofu course within walking distance from Chion-in Temple. The fresh wheat gluten was especially tasty and I would love to eat it again. The service was excellent, and it was a high-quality dining experience from start to finish. I will definitely visit again.

We used a private room for 2 children aged 5 and 3 adults at a course costing 4400 yen. Since we weren't sure about the portion size, we ordered 1 course for each of the 2 children, but the tofu dishes were easy for them to eat, so 1 course for both would have been enough. You can't order a la carte, so if your child can eat a full children's lunch, it should be fine to order 1 course per child. The rice at the end is generous, so adults will also be satisfied. The rice was delicious, and the pickles served with it were also tasty. The private room had a nice atmosphere, very private. The room we used was located down a dim stone staircase, so it might be a bit difficult for older people or mothers with babies in carriers. The room was divided by tatami mats, with tables for dining, so it was perfect - kids could play on the mats if they got bored, while adults could eat comfortably at the table. The staff were not constantly present, so it would have been helpful to have a pitcher of water or a pot of hot tea available, as we don't drink alcohol. Overall, it was a nice restaurant with a Kyoto-like atmosphere. Thank you very much.

I arrived about 10 minutes earlier than my reservation time, but I was immediately shown to my table! The room was cool and refreshing, which was perfect after walking in the scorching heat! The food was delicious! Even though it's summer, having yudofu in a room with just the right amount of air conditioning was perfect!

The dishes were fantastic. I had heard that tofu was delicious, but I never expected it to be this good. The silk tofu was firm yet delicate, and it was definitely silk tofu. I will definitely want to go back again.

I came to enjoy Kyoto's Yudofu. All the dishes that came out were tofu. Yet each had a different flavor. It felt like I had tried all the tofu dishes in the world during this tofu-filled night in Kyoto. My stomach is completely full and satisfied.

On the second day of a one-night, two-day trip to Kyoto on Sunday, I visited Gokin Shrine and then had a lunch of Yudofu (hot tofu). The restaurant had tatami rooms with tables and chairs, making it easy for elderly people to visit. The course menu consisted of various dishes made with tofu, each with different seasonings, which kept the meal interesting. The Yudofu was average, unlike the delicious one I had tried in Kyoto before. The meal also included gratin and mixed rice, which were both satisfying.

It's night time and I am near Chion-in in Kyoto. I had Yudofu for the first time in over 20 years in Kyoto. The customers were from Kanto region, so it's a good place to feel the Kyoto vibe. I wonder if as we age, we start to appreciate the taste more? We had the course menu, which was reasonably priced. The tofu... Ah, at this age, I finally find it delicious. Recently, I've been having Yudofu at home as a side dish for sake, but this place in the vicinity of Nanzen-ji Temple feels more elegant. The Yuba (tofu skin) is also delicious, and the broth is tasty. The timing of serving the dishes is also good. When I retire and return to Kansai, I would like to take a leisurely stroll and visit this place again. Thank you for the meal. Oh, I just realized, did they add kombu before the Yudofu started boiling?

Located near Chion-in Temple in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City. I visited the shop at night, and the surroundings were so quiet that walking felt a bit eerie. The shop was quietly standing there... The menu offers only one option: a tofu course for 4,180 yen. The course includes plum wine, simmered fresh wheat gluten, Takigawa soybean tofu (firm tofu made with kanten), crab miso tofu, deliciously chewy nama-yuba (fresh tofu skin), tofu gratin with a smooth texture and natural sweetness, simmered yuba and Koya tofu, and hot pot-style yudofu. The meal also includes rice, pickles, and a dessert shaped like a persimmon, which was fun to look at. The healthy meal left me feeling refreshed the next day without any stomach discomfort. However, those who like to eat a lot may find the portion size a bit small. It seems that additional orders, such as a la carte dishes, are not available on the menu. It may be necessary to inquire about paying for extra servings of the dishes from the course. This is a point of concern.

This is Rengetsu Chaya, a famous Yudofu Kaiseki restaurant in Higashiyama-ku. Located at the foot of the Jodo Shinshu Head Temple Chion-in. The atmosphere is fantastic and the tofu dishes are wonderful! The Yuba with ginger soy sauce and tofu gratin were very delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

I made a reservation for lunch on a holiday, but I didn't realize there was no parking and ended up taking over 15 minutes just to find a spot. The restaurant was like a house, with a narrow corridor leading to private rooms on the left and the kitchen on the right. The rooms had tatami floors where you had to take off your shoes. I ordered the tofu course for 3300 yen, which came with a drink. The appetizers were delicious, especially the crab tofu which had a rich flavor. The main dishes included deep-fried tofu, tofu gratin, and simmered tofu, all of which were tasty and filling. I recommend taking the train instead of driving to this place.

I had a tofu course at a tofu specialty shop in Kyoto, which was founded in 1900 and has a very historic atmosphere. The menu included various unique dishes such as Takigawa tofu, which I had never tried before, and all of them were delicious without any disappointments. However, there was no standout dish that I felt the need to mention, and the explanations of the dishes were lacking a bit, resulting in a slightly lower score. I think the experience would have been even better if I could have enjoyed some alcohol with the meal. The walk back to my accommodation passed by Yasaka Shrine and Gion, which added to the atmospheric experience.

I made a reservation to visit Chion-in Temple at night. I arrived at the opening time of 5:00 PM and was guided inside promptly. Since it was a set course, everything was served on time. The dishes had a slightly strong flavor, but they were delicious. Personally, I really liked the grilled wheat gluten with miso. It may not be enough for men. The service was smooth and efficient, with no waiting. It's recommended for those with plans as everything was on time.

I happened to pass by and decided to enter this restaurant near Chion-in Temple. At 12:35, there were 5 people waiting in the entrance area. We were seated in a private room for 2 groups at 1:15. The tofu course cost 3000 yen and included dishes such as crab miso tofu, simmered fu, miso-glazed tofu, tofu gratin, and more. The food was all delicious and satisfying. Tofu cuisine is truly fascinating.

I visited "Rengetsu Chaya" in Kyoto on the second day of my trip in early January. The restaurant is located in the Higashiyama area of Kyoto, across the street from Chion-in Temple and on the west side of Shoren-in Monzeki. The restaurant has a traditional Japanese atmosphere and has been in business since 1900, originally serving amazake and yudofu. The menu has been revised over the years, and now specializes in yudofu dishes. We had made a reservation for 1:00 pm, and the restaurant has a total of 40 seats. Upon arrival, we were led to a private room where we sat on raised tatami flooring with a table and chairs. The meal we ordered was the Tofu Course (lunch) for 3,000 yen, consisting of 10 dishes including plum wine, various tofu dishes, rice, pickles, and dessert. The meal started with plum wine, followed by dishes such as simmered yuba, Takigawa tofu, crab miso tofu, and more. Each dish had a unique and delicious flavor, showcasing the versatility of tofu in Japanese cuisine. The meal ended with a yuba and koya tofu stew, which was comforting and satisfying. Overall, the experience at Rengetsu Chaya was delightful, with a peaceful ambiance and delicious tofu dishes that highlighted the flavors of Kyoto. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to enjoy traditional Japanese cuisine in a serene setting.

When you go to Kyoto, start with Japanese cuisine! After being refreshed by the beautiful garden of Shoren-in, it's time for lunch. Passing through the gate, you're greeted by a lovely front garden. The lunch course consists of 10 tofu dishes (excluding tax) for 3000 yen. I was led to a private room in a separate building. A mini-sized plum wine appeared. Although I don't drink alcohol, it adds a festive touch to a girls' gathering. The Mizutaki tofu is a smooth tofu with agar, displaying beautiful water patterns. The crab miso tofu has a rich crab miso flavor. It makes you crave sake. The first time trying raw wheat gluten simmered in sauce was delightful, similar to clam simmered in sauce in taste and texture. The hot tofu also contains yuba. The softly warmed tofu is firm. The favorite raw wheat gluten dengaku is chewy with sweet miso and yuzu miso. It's so Kyoto. The hot tofu gratin is richer in flavor than expected, with just the right amount of salt. The yuba roll, or yuba ball, wraps a bit of filling in layers of yuba. It's like a mille-feuille in a way. The mixed rice is fluffy and perfectly cooked with a flavorful broth. The dessert of persimmon sweet is a type of sweet paste. It's a fall-themed presentation. With a variety of dishes, there's a great sense of satisfaction. It seems to be a popular place among women.

A friend wanted to eat a course meal of yudofu, so I found a restaurant near Sanjo to Shijo. Since we had been to restaurants in Pontocho and Kiyomizu Temple area before, we decided to try this new place. It was still early, so there were no other customers. Even though we didn't have a reservation, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room. The menu only had a ¥3500 course. My friend, who was trying yudofu course for the first time, was very pleased. The serving was smooth, and we enjoyed delicious yudofu. I forgot to take a picture of the rice cooked with yudofu and the soup.

After visiting Shimogamo Shrine for the New Year, I headed back to Yasaka and stopped by Yudofu restaurant near the gate. I was the first one there, just before they opened. It quickly filled up once they opened, so aiming for right at opening time seems like a good idea. The menu includes more than just Yudofu, like tofu gratin which is interesting. The tofu from Takigawa Tofu wasn't the crumbly type. Since I had a private room, the experience was quite nice.
