Do you all know that "Tenkaippin" in Shimotoba, Kyoto, offers a limited edition grilled chicken thigh dish only available at this store? And currently, for a limited time, they are also offering curry rice at a few select stores nationwide. Tenkaippin has stores all over the country, but when I visited the Shimotoba store on this day in March 2023, I was surprised to find out that they have been offering a limited menu item called "grilled chicken thigh" for several years now. I had heard about it from a friend and had been wanting to try it as a chicken lover. Finally, I had the opportunity to visit this time. However, when I arrived at the store, I was surprised to find another limited menu item that I didn't know they offered. It was the "Rich Curry Set" that I ordered along with the grilled chicken thigh. In February of this year, Tenkaippin started selling a retort curry with a rich soup flavor that had not been seen before, in collaboration with a company called "Ariake Japan". And from March 22, they started offering a "Rich Curry Set" which includes curry and ramen at only four stores, including the Shimotoba and Kumiyama stores in Kyoto, and the Koenji and Nakano stores in Tokyo. The curry is based on the rich chicken soup used in the store's signature ramen "Rich", with mild spices. The retort product had no toppings, but the curry I had at the store came with toppings such as "Rich Fried Chicken", pork belly chashu, garlic chives, and a half-flavored boiled egg. Some spicy lovers may find it lacking in flavor, but personally, I thought the combination of curry and toppings, especially the "Rich Fried Chicken", was excellent, and if you like rich flavors, you will surely enjoy it. As for the grilled chicken thigh that I ordered with the curry set, it used to be offered at the main store in Kitashirakawa, Kyoto, but they started selling it at this store because they ran out of space for the roaster. It is a rare item for a ramen shop, but the taste was comparable to the grilled chicken thigh sold at specialty chicken shops in department stores. It is more expensive than fried chicken, and it takes time to cook, so there may be times when you cannot eat it or have to wait for several tens of minutes, but as a chicken lover, I thought it was definitely worth trying at least once. The grilled chicken thigh is available all year round, while the curry is a limited-time menu item (the exact duration is not confirmed). When you visit the area around the Shimotoba store, please be sure to stop by and try them out.
