In front of Kyoto Station, there are many shops, but most of them are either aimed at tourists or chain stores. However, this place is a local udon and set meal restaurant where local office workers come for lunch. The seasonal lunch special, which includes mountain vegetable tempura udon and two pieces of inari sushi, is a good deal at 650 yen, but it was already sold out. I ended up ordering the "Udon Set Meal" instead. It came with tempura udon and two onigiri for 850 yen. The udon only had tempura, fish cake, and green onions, and looked a bit plain visually. There was a side dish of mountain vegetables, so I added them to the udon. The udon was thin but chewy. The sign said it was hand-made, but I'm not sure about that. The onigiri was quite large, with both of them filled with kelp. It was a lot of carbs, but it filled me up. Many people around me were ordering set meals without udon, like tonkatsu set meals. It's a good place for everyday dining. Thank you for the meal! \(^o^)/

Well, two weeks in a row working in Kansai. On Thursday, I came to Kyoto for the first time in a whileヽ(^o^)丿 I got off the Shinkansen at Kyoto Station around 11:30. I decided to have lunch at <Chikara Mochi Shokudo>, which I had looked up on Google Maps before. It's about a 10-minute walk from the station. Oh, it's quite a cool local diner^^ After entering, I hesitated for a moment but decided to sit in the tatami area. It seems that sharing tables is common in this place, but it was okay on this day, maybe due to the time. I ordered the "Katsudon/950 yen" from the lady waitress. After a while, the Katsudon, accompanied by miso soup and pickles, was served on a tray. The Katsudon was a very simple dish. The katsu, topped with egg, and rice didn't have a lot of volume, but the dashi flavor was delicate and elegant. The miso soup was delicious as well (๑╹ڡ╹๑) Truly Kyoto (laughs). The atmosphere of the restaurant, with a typical "local diner" vibe, was also nice♪ Thank you for the meal~ It's been a while in Kansai. The lady waitress saying "ookini~" felt nostalgic. Alright, stomach charged up. Time to work hard٩( 'ω' ) ===========

After finishing work in the morning in Nagoya on October 12th, I headed to Kyoto for a meeting in Shiga. I wanted to have a quick lunch in Kyoto, so I decided to stop by Chikara Mochi in Shimogyo Ward. My goal was to try Kyoto's tanuki udon, so without hesitation, I ordered the tanuki udon for 600 yen. Almost at the same time, another customer ordered katsudon, and later, more customers followed suit. Finally, my tanuki udon arrived. It had a thick texture, similar to Hakata udon, which was quite enjoyable. The red sauce on the udon, combined with the hot and flavorful broth, was delicious. The chopped fried tofu added a nice touch without overpowering the dish. I'm not sure if this is the only place in Kyoto that serves udon like this, but it was definitely a good experience. I would like to visit this restaurant again. Thank you for the meal.

After a long time, I visited my favorite udon restaurant! I had my favorite curry udon, and it was delicious as always. The broth was flavorful and slightly spicy, which I enjoyed. It was so tasty that I could drink up all the soup. This dish is a gem that I crave occasionally. Thank you for the meal!

On normal days, there are usually 2 people visiting. It gets very crowded during lunchtime, so I went early today. I had the service lunch for ¥600, which was a set of cold udon and inari sushi. It was just the right amount. Even in the hot summer weather, it was easy to eat. The seaweed sprinkled on top was a nice touch. It was delicious. The inari sushi had sesame seeds on it, and it was only ¥90 each, which is a reasonable price. I even tried ordering a set meal with an extra inari sushi. I will definitely visit this place again.

I often pass by Shichijo Street but I had overlooked this place. I had lunch here today. Of course, I ordered the curry udon. They also have meat curry udon on the menu, but I went with the curry udon set for 700 yen. It's a pretty attractive price. It looks like it's not meat... Here it comes! It looks like tempura... I'm sorry, I mistook it for an egg, but it was actually tempura! It was thinly sliced. The curry udon had a slight spiciness. Thank you for the meal.

I had curry udon for around 550 yen and a small rice for 150 yen. Somehow, it ended up being a set for 610 yen (^o^)v The curry udon was surprisingly spicy, but I managed to finish it by adding rice at the end. It was so warm and satisfying (๑′ᴗ‵๑)

"Kitsune udon for 450 yen. Inari sushi for 90 yen each x 2. After being sick and the New Year break, finally had udon in Kyoto after a long time. The udon I had last time was disappointing, but this time it was delicious. Thank you for the meal." #Udon typical of Kyoto

I had a 500 yen tanuki inari sushi for 90 yen each at "Kimura Shokudo" before, but I wasn't quite satisfied with it, so I decided to try the tanuki again. The fried tofu in the tanuki was still not sweet enough, but it was delicious. #Kyoto-style udon

I went all the way to Tanbaguchi or took the train to Shijo just to try this place. Even though it's not my usual choice, I decided to come here. The udon was easier to eat with the broth. The simmered shiitake mushrooms were a bit too salty. I preferred the shiitake mushrooms I had at Aioi Mochi, they were tastier. The broth here was better than at Kimura Shokudo. Broth makes you feel full, so full. It was warm, warm.

I ordered kitsune udon and inari sushi, hoping for the "koshinuke udon" to be served, but a slightly chewy udon came out instead, so my expectations were not met. However, the udon had a delicious broth, so I was satisfied. The inari sushi was also delicious. #Typical Kyoto udon

I was transferred to Kyoto and had my first lunch at a teishoku (set meal) restaurant. Local flavors are best enjoyed at teishoku restaurants. Oh! It turns out this place was established in 1924 in Kyoto! That's impressive, but apparently not so much in Kyoto. It might be considered a long-standing establishment in a different area, but the sense of time is different here. I ordered the "Curry Udon Set"! The menu was written in hiragana, which caught my attention. The curry udon in Kyoto had a Japanese-style broth with aburaage (fried tofu) and green onions, slightly spicy! You'll definitely want to slurp it all up. The udon was a bit soft, but it paired perfectly with the curry. The remaining broth and rice were also great! This was my first time trying curry udon in Kyoto, and I didn't expect it to be so Japanese-style. It's a flavor that won't get old. Thank you for serving such delicious curry udon. I will definitely be back!

I tried out a new restaurant today. It's located on Shichijo Street in Kyoto. The staff greeted me with a friendly voice, and the place seemed to have a lot of regular customers. It gave off a vibe of a local diner. I ordered the Cold Keema Curry Udon, which came with a big chunk of keema curry on top. It had lettuce, which was a nice touch for someone like me who needs more veggies. I mixed the keema in and enjoyed the cold udon noodles. Overall, I found the atmosphere to be very welcoming, and I would definitely go back again.

Lunch service with mountain vegetable and egg udon and two pieces of inari sushi for 580 yen is a great deal. The completely non-smoking environment is appreciated. The pure Kyoto-style dashi warms the body.

I had a warm udon and it was delicious. Thank you for the meal. I decided to revisit because I really enjoyed the chewiness of the cold udon I had before. (^ ^)

I found a sign for a restaurant called "Menrui, Donburi Chikara Mochi Shokudo" that gave off a sense of tradition near Kyoto Station. The place looked lively with salarymen inside, so I decided to go in. Although the menu mainly focused on noodles, I was intrigued by the service menu on the wall and ended up ordering the set of "Cold Bukkake Udon with 2 pieces of Inari Sushi." The chewy udon with flavorful broth exceeded my expectations, and the Inari Sushi in the set was surprisingly delicious as well. The place was packed with regular customers during lunchtime, so you might have to share a table, but the quick turnover of customers made it bearable. The next day, I couldn't resist trying the limited-time special "Kyoto-style Fried Curry Udon Set." The curry broth with a strong dashi flavor was so comforting and delicious that I wanted to savor every last drop. While it may not feel fancy, this restaurant is recommended for salarymen looking for a place to visit regularly.
