On Thursday at 9:00 p.m., I went to "Izumoya" in Kawaramachi, Kyoto. It is a long-established eel restaurant. I was excited because it had been a while since I had eel. I ordered the "Hana Izumo (Sakura)". It arrived 10 minutes later, consisting of small dishes, eel bowl, pickled carp, pickles, and liver soup. The eel bowl was delicious, with a fluffy texture and just the right amount of fat. The secret sauce was perfectly sweet. The pickled carp was served with vinegar miso, fresh and tender without any fishy smell. The liver soup had a rich flavor but was elegant. The sesame tofu in the small dish had a creamy texture and a subtle sesame flavor. Personally, I prefer Kansai-style eel with just grilling, but this Edo-style eel with steaming was also delicious. Eel is just so tasty. Thank you for the meal.

It was a hot day, so we chose to sit on the second floor. Looking down, we could see that they also offer dining on the riverbed during this season. The inside of the restaurant was cool and had a calm atmosphere. You can enjoy the view of Minami-za and Shijo Ohashi from the glass windows, giving you a truly Kyoto-like experience in Gion. I wanted to eat eel, so I ordered the Hanaizumo (Sakura) set (2640 yen). It came with an eel bowl, sesame tofu, carp sashimi, eel liver, and pickles. There was plenty of food and rice, and I left feeling satisfied. It's rare to find a place where you can enjoy eel at such a reasonable price nowadays.

The restaurant is located at the very end of Pontocho. While many restaurants in the area offer "kawadoko" dining during this season, this one does not, but it has a glass-walled interior with a view of the Kamo River! It was raining lightly, so it was actually nice to dine comfortably inside with the air conditioning. We ordered a set meal with egg and fish as the main dish, as well as kanpyo sushi and nasu dengaku to share. The taste was... well, so-so. But the staff were lovely and attentive. They also had a mini kaiseki set which looked delicious too!

I have been to Kibune's riverside dining a few times, but this was my first time dining by the Kamogawa River. At Izumoya, I enjoyed a kaiseki meal on the riverside while gazing at the evening Kamogawa River and cooling off. The food tastes even better in a different setting. In particular, the grilled sea bream with yuzu sauce and the grilled fugu were delicious.

Visited the long-established restaurant Izumoya along the Kamogawa River in Pontocho. It has a great atmosphere with a Kyoto-like location and even a riverside dining area. I ordered the Gion Set (2,310 yen) and a small beer. The meal included small dishes, rolled omelette, sashimi, tempura, seasonal simmered dish, rice, pickles, and red miso soup. Everything was delicious, and I would love to go back again.

I just finished this term's classes (still have some report grading left). This year, face-to-face classes have resumed in full swing, and the students are clearly more energetic compared to last year. This is how a university should be. I will commemorate the end of this term by enjoying some delicious eel at my favorite restaurant, Itsumoya in Pontocho. It's still as tasty as ever. The view of the Kamo River is also beautiful.

Izumoya Kyoto ❤️ Located in Pontocho, Kyoto ❤️ Summer kaiseki (pine) / Summer bed cuisine ¥6,600 ❤️ Izumoya in Kyoto's Shijo Pontocho is a restaurant that offers a taste of Kyoto with its eel and Kyoto cuisine. Established in 1916 and relocated to Pontocho in 1946, the prominent exterior can be seen from Shijo Ohashi. The restaurant boasts a view of the Kamo River from the chair seats and tatami rooms, and you can even see the Daimonji from the 3rd floor. With a seating capacity of over 150 on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors, the menu features traditional eel dishes passed down from its establishment, as well as shabu-shabu, sukiyaki, and seasonal Kyoto cuisine. I had given up on dining on the river bed when I made a reservation, but luckily, I inquired on the day and was able to dine on the river bed. The course for the day included various dishes such as appetizers, sashimi, soup, hassun, grilled dish, cold dish, vinegar dish, rice, clear soup, and dessert. The summer specialty, conger eel, was also served. After enjoying the eel bowl and red miso soup, it was already night time as the meal progressed and the photos became darker. Despite the heat on the way there and back, it was refreshing and relaxing at the restaurant. Name: Izumoya Reservations: Available Access: 2 minutes walk from Hankyu Kawaramachi Station / 2 minutes walk from Keihan Shijo Station [West side of Shijo Ohashi] 98m from Gion Shijo Station Business hours: 11:30-22:00 (L.O. 21:00) Closed: None #Izumoya #KyotoGourmet #KarasumaGourmet #Kyoto #Karasuma #KyotoTravel #WantToConnectWithPeopleWhoLoveDeliciousFood #WantToConnectWithPeopleWhoLoveGourmet

The day of the ox in mid-June is approaching. I visited a riverside restaurant for lunch around that time before the intense heat of summer. I had the "Hanaizumo" set with eel and carp sashimi on top of rice. The eel, though not as thick as Kanto-style eel, was soft and easy to eat with a light sauce. The flavors reminded me of a traditional Kyoto restaurant. While the food may not be exceptional, the nostalgic taste and the location and service made the experience satisfying. This place has been a familiar spot since I was young, offering a special dining experience better than a family restaurant, and is a valuable place where three generations can enjoy a meal together. Whether you're catching up with old friends or trying something new, this casual Japanese restaurant is worth a visit.

I came here for the first time in 10 years. Honestly, most places were closed, but this place was open. It was a quiet time of day. Some customers were enjoying their meal on the riverside deck, but we chose to sit at a table. The waitress was friendly and kind. In Kyoto, where there are many rules and formalities, it's nice to be treated kindly by everyone. The food was delicious and served relatively quickly. It was a luxurious meal, and we enjoyed it while admiring the view from the window. I personally recommend this place. Customers come here because they want to build a good relationship with the restaurant. The lady who handled the payment was also very kind. It was a great memory, thank you. Thank you for the meal.

Went to Kyoto after a long time! Strolled around Pontocho but not many places were open!!! Ended up going to a big restaurant!!! Had a luxurious shabu-shabu for lunch!!! It was delicious!!! Even though I ordered shabu-shabu, the eggplant miso and yuba were amazing!!! Kyoto never disappoints.

I was looking for dinner on Shijo Street and ended up at the reliable Izumoya. They seemed to have a set menu for the evening, but I was craving eel so I went inside. I ordered the Hana Izumo Ume for ¥2860, which came with fluffy eel and a side of carp sashimi. It was delicious and reasonably priced. A reliable choice.

During the coronavirus pandemic, dining by the river was an unexpected experience. We stumbled upon a restaurant called Izumo-ya, known for their eel dishes. We decided to try their traditional bento box for 2940 yen, which came with a variety of side dishes. We also ordered an extra dish of eel omelette to go with our beer. To accompany our meal, we chose two bottles of the restaurant's original sake. The food was beautifully presented and each dish had a unique flavor that paired well with the sake. The only downside was the time limit of 8:00 pm, and we felt rushed to finish our meal by 7:30 pm. Overall, dining by the river was a pleasant experience with a cool breeze and a charming view of the illuminated Nanzan theater across the Kamo River.

I had heard that you can enjoy a meal while overlooking the Kamogawa River at the filming location of "Hanzawa Naoki" and it piqued my interest. The appetizers, sashimi, soup, eel, and other dishes were delicious and made for a memorable experience. The restaurant moved to Pontocho in 1946, where you can enjoy Kyoto cuisine and eel dishes. The specialty grilled eel is cooked slowly with a secret sauce passed down since the Taisho era using traditional Edo techniques. The Kyoto cuisine is elegantly presented with seasonal flavors, colors, and gloss, capturing the charm of each season. The restaurant also offers a variety of hot pot dishes, with shabu-shabu and sukiyaki as the main choices, as well as delicious dishes like grilled conger eel in summer and hot pot in winter. The restaurant's glass-walled interior overlooking the Kamogawa River creates an open and elegant atmosphere where you can savor the Kyoto charm, reminiscent of a scene from a drama. I definitely want to go back again.

Located at the corner where you enter Pontocho from Shijo Ohashi Bridge, this long-established restaurant offers a hearty meal set with a gourd-shaped bento box and tempura for ¥3630 (tax included). The flavors were all delicious, especially the assorted side dishes. Their eel dishes are also popular. In the summer, there is a tatami seating area, giving off a casual and friendly atmosphere like a family-friendly Kyoto cuisine restaurant. You can easily enjoy the taste of Kyoto at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Every September, it has become a family tradition for us to visit this place. It's great that we can enjoy riverside dining without needing a reservation. The menu offers a variety of options like eel rice bowl with a generous portion of rolled omelette, set meals, and sukiyaki at reasonable prices. The atmosphere, service from the staff, all make it a place where we can leave feeling happy.

Located about a 1-2 minute walk east from the Gion-Shijo Station exit 5 on the Keihan Main Line, this restaurant seated us at a 4-person table. We ordered the "Hanadon" eel bowl, which arrived after a short wait. The dish featured eel topped with a rolled omelette, served with liver dipping sauce and pickles. The omelette was perfectly cooked, complementing the eel and sweet-savory sauce for a lighter twist on the traditional eel bowl. Sprinkling some sansho pepper added a nice kick to enhance the flavors. Enjoying this eel bowl while overlooking the Kamo River was truly a delightful experience. I would love to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

The tempura set meal was 1600 yen. The eel bowl at Matsuya was 1800 yen. My tempura set meal took a really long time to arrive, and my partner's meal came first and was almost finished by the time mine arrived. When it finally did, the tempura and rice were cold. Despite the restaurant having a traditional feel, it was quite disappointing.

A little before my birthday, I took a casual trip to Kyoto. I don't usually have the chance to visit, but I decided to enjoy the cool breeze at a riverside terrace along the Kamo River. It was still daytime, but the sun was shining brightly. The air was dry and comfortable, especially in the shade of the building. It was a pleasure to dine while feeling the gentle breeze from the Kamo River. I ordered an eel dish and a highball at Hanaizumo @ Sakura. I had walked along the Takase River from Shichijo area, so the highball tasted exceptionally delicious. Next came the eel bowl, carp sashimi, side dishes, liver, and pickles. The carp sashimi had a firm texture and fresh taste, reminding me of the strength of carp. I enjoyed it with vinegar miso, but I think it would pair well with a refreshing beer. The eel bowl was tasty and reasonably priced, but it left me slightly unsatisfied. It seems that in this region known for "mamushi" cuisine, there may be a preference for eel over other types of fish. The distinction between bowls and stacked dishes in this region is also interesting. It was my first experience dining on a riverside terrace, and I appreciated the wisdom and elegance of the past. The meal was delicious, thank you.
