Mizuo in Kyoto has been known for its cultivation of yuzu (Japanese citrus) for a long time, and there are several shops that have renovated part of their homes to offer yuzu baths and water-based hot pot dishes. "Marugen" is one of them. They only offer these dishes during the yuzu season, and I visited after climbing Mt. Atago. During this winter season, the yuzu bath, hot pot with chicken broth, and the warm hospitality of the owners provide a unique experience that cannot be fully captured by review ratings. It may not be luxurious or offer craft beer, but the atmosphere here is quite calming. It's a place I would want to visit every winter. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

The annual tradition of climbing Mt. Atago followed by a yuzu bath and chicken hot pot at Mizuo. This year, we revisited Marugen, where we could make our own preferred ponzu sauce by squeezing the yuzu ourselves. Unfortunately, there was a shortage of yuzu this year, with only one and a half per person available. However, when we asked for more, they kindly provided extra. Despite the cold at the summit of Mt. Atago, the yuzu bath and chicken hot pot warmed both our bodies and hearts. Thank you for the delicious meal.

After climbing Mt. Atago, I visited this restaurant for a reward meal. First, I enjoyed a yuzu bath to refresh myself, then I had a delicious sukiyaki. It was fun and tasty to squeeze the yuzu and make my own ponzu sauce! I finished off with a comforting rice porridge. I definitely want to come back again.
