I found a ramen shop while looking for a place to eat ramen after drinking around Kyoto Station. The menu had options like cold tantan noodles, all of which were appealing. The shop was clean and cozy. The ramen was delicious, and they even provided easy-to-use ladles for scooping up the toppings. It was a great place where I could feel the care they put into serving their customers.

It's Kyoto. Kyoto is located north of Kyoto Station, towards Kyoto Tower. A little west from the intersection of Karasuma Shichijo, on the south side, I found this restaurant while looking for a lunch spot. When I entered the restaurant, I noticed that unlike most recent ramen shops, they didn't have a ticket machine and you had to order from the staff. It was a hot day, so I decided to go for the spicy option - the Mala Tan Tan Men. They mentioned that it could be made even spicier, but being my first time there, I played it safe and went for the maximum spiciness level without any additional charge. After about 7-8 minutes, the Mala Tan Tan Men arrived. I tried the soup first, and although it had a decent level of spiciness, I felt I could have handled something spicier. However, I realized that going for the maximum spiciness level allowed me to appreciate the flavor of the soup better. While I could taste the spiciness, I didn't feel the numbing sensation from the Sichuan peppercorns as much, which left me slightly unsatisfied. The portion size was smaller than I expected, so if I have the chance to visit again, I will definitely order some side dishes as well.

I went here after watching a soccer game! There were supporters from both teams, so this place might be a hidden gem open after 10 pm. I was happy to see they offer small ramen and a ladies set. I'm not a fan of spicy food, so I ordered mine with mild spice, but it might be okay with regular spice too? It's been a while since I had tantanmen, but I want to go back again soon!

I used to frequent the Yamashina store and was excited to find out they opened a branch near Kyoto Station. I decided to visit one evening and found the place empty around 6 pm on a Friday. The atmosphere was nice with table seating at the back. I have tried almost all the menu items before, so I decided to go with the soupless tantanmen for 900 yen. The tantanmen here is not very spicy, so I recommend adding extra spice if you like it. The fried chicken is also tasty with a good flavor.

A delicious and orthodox style Dan Dan noodle shop!
■ Store Overview
Located about an 8-10 minute walk from Kyoto Station along the 7th street, the shop may look like a small ramen shop, but it has been renovated from a Kyoto machiya and has a depth of about 30 meters, making it quite a large store. The modern and stylish interior is clean and inviting. The main dish is Dan Dan noodles, with side dishes such as chashu rice bowl and Tianjin rice also available at this Dan Dan noodle specialty shop. Today, I ordered the recommended meat Dan Dan noodles. The soup, rich in the sweetness and umami of ground sesame, is a characteristic of this gentle Dan Dan noodle dish. It was quite delicious. This is a perfect place to enjoy a light meal with friends. Thank you for the meal.

Medium-thin straight noodles around 24th place
An orthodox type of Dan Dan noodles with sesame paste as the main ingredient. The sweetness and umami are slightly strong, with a mild spiciness (it is also possible to order it spicy). Toppings include stir-fried ground meat, chopped green onions, and chives, giving a simple flavor. Fried chicken: The chili flavor is excellent, with about 35g per piece and 3 pieces. Rice: Slightly inferior. Slightly hard, not very glossy. However, the taste has a strong sweetness and a good aroma, but it is average.
■ Cost Evaluation 45/100 points 9 points
Dan Dan noodles ¥800 My average visit price is ¥780 (retail price statistics ¥632), so it is at an average price level. Cost evaluation slightly influenced by deliciousness.

I can't believe I can eat near Kyoto Station!!! I haven't been to the shop in Yamashina since it moved, but now there are shops near Kyoto Station and in Marutamachi. I ordered the tantanmen as default. The interior of the shop has quite a depth, and there are table seats in the back. The tantanmen is incredibly creamy. It's more creamy than spicy. I remember the shop in Yamashina was like this, but this is new and interesting.

The grudge from missing out on fried chicken yesterday still lingers, but the desire for it led me to a restaurant that I had my eye on. I arrived at 2:00 PM to find that the lunch fried chicken set was on hold due to rising ingredient costs. However, I ordered the regular fried chicken set from the menu. I also ordered the meat-included tantanmen for 980 yen, a boiled egg for 100 yen, and the fried chicken set for 370 yen. The food was served in about 4 minutes. The soup was creamy and the tantanmen had a mild spiciness, which I found to be not spicy enough, so next time I will order it double spicy. The noodles were thin with a firm texture. The fried chicken was a bit greasy but tasty. The rice portion was generous, about 0.6 servings, which was just right for someone who doesn't want too much.

After finishing work, I arrived at Kyoto Station on Saturday morning. I decided to have lunch before heading home, so I headed towards the Porta area, but it was crowded everywhere. So I walked to Shichijo Street. There are plenty of drinking places, but when it comes to lunch, the options are limited. I decided to visit this place that caught my eye. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and clean, with a wide counter that creates a relaxing atmosphere. I ordered a draft beer and a small size of Sichuan-style tantanmen. It's nice that they offer a small size option. The beer they serve is "Ebisu" and it comes in a frozen glass, which is nice. Having beer at noon feels a bit sinful but that makes it taste even better! The "Sichuan-style tantanmen" had a hint of Sichuan pepper, but the spiciness was quite mild. It wasn't much different from a regular tantanmen! However, the flavor was well-balanced and authentic, and the small size was satisfying. It was delicious to have tantanmen after a long time. I think they are cutting costs by having self-checkout, but the lack of interaction with the staff made it feel a bit impersonal, which was disappointing. Perhaps this is just the way things are in this era...

Next to the Rido food and drink street. Tonight's final meal. Surprised by the self-control that made it mini size in the midst of intoxication. There are three types of lemon sours, and the Lemon Sour lineup is tempting. The spicy tantan noodles with extra spicy topping are the best to eat while panting. Sesame x spiciness made me the winner again tonight. And... the dessert was exquisite. They make everything by hand, so don't underestimate it. I was a little surprised. The perfect balance of spiciness and sweetness made my mouth feel just right.

I came to Osaka for a live performance and stopped by this restaurant for a meal before staying at a hotel near Kyoto Station. It was nice to find a place open until 11pm. I ordered the soup-less tantanmen noodles and a beer. The dish was rich and satisfying. The restaurant was spacious and I could relax comfortably. I also ordered the fried chicken, which was crispy and delicious.

Cheese Tantan noodles! The popular No. 1 powdered cheese topped with seared sliced cheese says hello. It was delicious and you could really taste the cheese. Since it was my first time, I kept the spiciness and portion at a normal level. We also ordered the Mapo rice to share. Both the Tantan noodles and Mapo rice were not very spicy at all! Even if you don't like spicy food, you'll be fine ☺️ (If you like spicy food, you might want to add extra spiciness to feel satisfied.)

Around 12 o'clock, I visited "Tantanmen Koguma YEBISU" located on the south side of Nijokarasuma, heading west from Shichijo Karasuma. - Special Tantanmen with Meat: 980 yen
I chose the Tantanmen with meat because the Char Siu looked delicious. I opted for the normal level of spiciness. The nutty aroma and sweetness of the soup were delightful, and the taste was both orthodox and never boring. The Char Siu was especially delicious, with a perfect balance of fat and lean meat that melted in the mouth. I highly recommend this dish.
[Overall Impression]
There aren't many Tantanmen specialty restaurants, so this is a valuable place to enjoy delicious Tantanmen. The Char Siu, in particular, is outstanding. With a wide variety of Tantanmen available, I would love to try other options as well. Friday 18:46
Before boarding the Shinkansen, I stopped by the Tan Tan Men Ko restaurant in front of Kyoto Station for a quick meal. I have been to the shop in Yamaoka before, but this was my first time at this location. It had been a while since my last visit. With my large bag, I was guided to a table in the back of the restaurant. The interior was surprisingly spacious with tables that could seat up to six people. I ordered the Tan Tan Men (medium spicy) for 780 yen and added a side of fried chicken with chili sauce for 320 yen. They kindly offered me a paper apron, which was a nice touch. The food arrived at 18:54. The noodles were thin and cooked quickly. The orange-colored soup was topped with white and green onions, and shredded chili peppers. Despite choosing the spiciest level (4 times the normal spiciness), it wasn't too hot. I added some chili oil to enhance the flavor. The staff noticed my preference for adding vinegar to my soup, and they brought me some without me asking. It was a satisfying end to the meal. The fried chicken was small but tasty, especially with the sweet chili sauce, which is my favorite. With a quick meal, I headed towards the Shinkansen feeling satisfied. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I was tempted by the lunch set A for 900 yen with rice, but I ended up choosing the B set because I've been conscious of my recent weight. It was delicious. Both the tantanmen and the karaage were really good. Nothing extraordinary, just simply tasty. I was happy with the generous amount of mayonnaise on the karaage. There were other sauce options like chili sauce, but if I could choose, I would go with mayonnaise. The tantanmen was a bit spicy for me, but still within my tolerance level. Now I feel like trying the tantanmen at the Chinese restaurant in Miyakomichi for comparison. If I come back on a weekday, I'll go for the B set. If it's a weekend, then maybe the cheese tantanmen. Otherwise, I might consider trying the recommended bento. It's convenient that they accept electronic payments. Thank you for the meal. It was amusing to see the chair sinking down as I'm overweight. I'd like to think it was the chair's fault.

A tantanmen specialty restaurant located near Kyoto Station, with branches in Yamashina and Marutamachi. The interior of the restaurant is long and narrow, with a counter and tables, creating a sharp and stylish atmosphere. The tantanmen comes in a regular size with normal spiciness, and the soup is a golden yellow color. The noodles are smooth and have a good bite, and they mix well with the creamy soup. The minced meat has a nice texture and adds to the deliciously spicy flavor. The staff is friendly and attentive. This is a must-visit restaurant for repeat customers.

This is a shop located along Shichijo Street, behind Yodobashi in front of Kyoto Station. The entrance may seem small, but the interior has depth with counter seats in the front and table seats in the back. It's nice that you can carefully look at the menu before ordering, even though ordering at the table has become less common recently. This time, I ordered the classic tantanmen (but in size "large" and spiciness "extra spicy"). The dish arrived in just a few minutes. I wonder if they boiled the noodles right after ordering? The spiciness, even in "large" size, is not too strong. It's a gradual heat that lingers in the aftertaste. The creamy sesame seems to absorb the spiciness. If you ask the staff, they will lend you an electric mill filled with Sichuan peppercorns. This allows you to add as much Sichuan pepper as you like. It's a nice touch, although the electric mill is a bit slow and can be slightly frustrating. The minced meat in the dish is fluffy and delicious. They also provide a slotted spoon, so you can scoop up every last bit.

I wanted to eat tantanmen, so I searched near Kyoto Station and found this place. The main store seems to be in Yamashina, and this shop has only been open for about a year. I visited for lunch right away. It was before 12 o'clock, but I was able to enter smoothly. The restaurant was longer than I imagined, with plenty of seating. Although there were empty seats at the counter in front, I was guided to a table in the back. I chose the weekday lunch set A for 900 yen. It comes with tantanmen and 3 pieces of karaage, a great deal. It was served in a few minutes. The creamy tantanmen was mildly spicy. The mala tantanmen that my husband ordered was spicy and delicious. You can choose from 4 types of sauce for the karaage. This time, I chose the scallion sauce, which was tasty like oil-drizzled chicken! It's recommended for when you want to easily eat tantanmen near the station. Thank you for the meal! ★

I decided to visit this restaurant nearby after finding out that the lunch at another place was sold out. It was a Thursday afternoon at the end of the year, around 1:30 PM. The restaurant had a few customers and had a long and narrow layout typical of Kyoto. The back area had chic tables. Since the tables were full and I had luggage with me, I ended up sitting at the counter. I ordered the standard ramen dish with toppings of spicy miso ramen, pickled vegetables, and flavored boiled egg. The total came to 980 yen. The food arrived in less than 5 minutes and looked delicious. The soup had a mild and creamy sesame flavor, the noodles were smooth with a hint of sweetness, and the boiled egg was a nice addition. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would like to visit again to try something with a bit more kick. I would rate this restaurant 90.7 out of 100.

I visited the restaurant around 6:45 PM on a regular day. There were two customers already there. I ordered the small size meat tantanmen for 930 yen. Even though I'm not good with spicy food, I found it delicious! The spiciness could be adjusted using the condiments on the table. The tantanmen came with a variety of condiments on the table, allowing you to customize the flavor to your liking. However, I found that I didn't need to adjust much as the spiciness level was just right for me. There was a ladle with holes provided, which was convenient for scooping up the minced meat. I ended up using a regular ladle at first before realizing the existence of the ladle with holes later on.

I visited the restaurant around 2:00 PM and sat at the empty counter, looking at the menu. Although it was my first time visiting this branch, I have been to the main store and the Enmachi branch before. I was looking for a menu item that I had never tried before, and I came across the popular No.1 dish, "Cheese Tantanmen" (930 yen). I ordered it with extra spiciness. When the dish arrived, it was served in a white bowl with burnt cheese in the middle and Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top of a soup with chili oil floating on it. When I tasted the soup, it had a creamy and mild flavor with a rich sesame soup base and a spicy kick from the chili oil. The crunchy texture of the chopped green onions added a nice touch. Mixing the cheese into the soup enhanced its creaminess and richness. The noodles were firm with a smooth and chewy texture that paired well with the soup. At the bottom of the soup, there was minced meat, and I was able to scoop it up with a perforated spoon, ensuring that I didn't leave anything behind. The default Tantanmen is already creamy and flavorful, but the burnt cheese added a nutty aroma and made it even creamier. I plan to try the meat Tantanmen with cheese topping next time.
