Stopped by for souvenirs. I decided to buy some Yatsuhashi for a friend who loves them. I was interested in the mango and blueberry flavors, so I purchased those. The staff recommended some flavors and even let me taste them, which made it easy to choose. For my family, I chose the mango flavor. They also served delicious tea. They also offer shaved ice, so it's a nice place to take a break! (^o^)/

Kyoto's winter is cold! To warm up from the cold, I had some yuzu tea. The gentle sweetness warms you to the core. It makes me want to have more yuzu tea again.

Yuzu shaved ice is the best on a hot day.

When asked for a souvenir recommendation in Kyoto, the immediate response was "Yatsuhashi" (laughs). I picked up something unusual on site and sent it, and they were very interested in the product so they bought it! ★Spring Yatsuhashi Sakura, Matcha, Nikki Besides the standard red bean filling, I have never bought anything else. The chewy dough contains three flavors, with a light sprinkling of soybean flour. Matcha and Nikki are on the stable route. Sakura is a spring limited edition with cherry blossom leaves kneaded into the dough, giving it a slightly pink and green color. The taste is more pronounced than the scent. With no red bean paste, the sweetness is subdued but still sufficiently sweet.

I had the opportunity to try my first "Yatsuhashi crepe" at this shop in a corner of Arashiyama. What I had that day was the seasonal limited edition Yatsuhashi Crepe with chestnut for 500 yen. I was nervous about how it would incorporate Yatsuhashi, but the finely flaked Yatsuhashi was wrapped cutely in the crepe dough. Furthermore, there were Yatsuhashi pieces serving as spoons. Those spoon-like Yatsuhashi pieces were indeed just like the real thing. The Yatsuhashi inside provided a nice crispy texture, but I didn't feel a strong Yatsuhashi flavor. It was a collaboration of plenty of chestnut, plenty of whipped cream, and the crispy Yatsuhashi. It was an interesting crepe. Thank you for the meal!

Kyoto cycling tour. After visiting Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, we headed to Dendengu Shrine. We worked up an appetite pedaling, so we stopped by Nishio for some soft serve ice cream with Yatsuhashi. The soft serve had Yatsuhashi sticking out of it. They told us to use the Yatsuhashi as a spoon. However, the matcha flavor in the soft serve was barely noticeable. Also, the lighting made the photo turn out in an odd color. I thought they could sell more if they brought out the cinnamon flavor of Yatsuhashi. Anyway, it was a good meal.

Posting the remains of Kansai sightseeing. I had "Yuba Cheese Tempura" at Yoshimi Oku no Niwa and shortly after found this place. It's tucked away at the back of the clean 1st floor of Arashiyama Shoryuen. Surprisingly, this shop is run by Nishio Yatsuhashi. That's why the spoon is a "Yatsuhashi" spoon. The matcha soft serve is only 300 yen, and it's a good deal to be able to enjoy Yatsuhashi after a long time. However, the matcha soft serve with Yatsuhashi was not my cup of tea.

On a weekday in April 2016 (20160421), I visited the Honke Nishio Yatsuhashi at the Shoryuen commercial facility. After buying some souvenirs, I purchased a "Sakura Soft Serve" for 300 yen (tax included) at the takeout corner and enjoyed it in the courtyard. The facility closes at 6 pm, and since I arrived 30 minutes before closing, there were hardly any people inside. Even though I had just had tea an hour earlier, I really wanted to taste this flavor. The soft serve had a hint of sakura flavor and was served with a Yatsuhashi stick as a spoon. The Yatsuhashi was slightly firm and crispy, with a sweet taste. The cone was soft. The soft serve had a smooth and light texture, so I finished it quickly. The crepes also looked delicious. Overall satisfaction for today: ◯ Thank you for the meal.

Located on the 1st floor of the commercial facility "Arashiyama Shoryuen" in Arashiyama Station of the Randen Arashiyama line in Kyoto. In addition to shopping for items like Yatsuhashi, the takeout corner also sells crepes and soft serve ice cream made with rice flour. The courtyard inside the facility has a food court with 100 seats. The orange-flavored Yatsuhashi was delicious, with the orange-colored skin and orange-flavored filling being sweet and sour. I remember trying strawberry-filled Yatsuhashi from another shop in the past and thinking that unusual variations are not good, but the orange one here was tasty!
