"Bankaraya" near Momoyama Minami Exit on the Outer Ring Road. I had been curious about this place since visiting the nearby "Yukikura Shokudo" before. Although you have to cross the road, there is parking space for 3 cars. It seems like it transforms into an izakaya at night, but the daily lunch menu is displayed outside, so you can visit with confidence. For lunch, you can choose between ① "Fried Cod with Tartar Sauce" or ② "Salmon, Scallop, and Sea Bream Carpaccio," which come with side dishes and rice. Another menu that caught my eye was the "Fish Set Meal," which includes a sashimi assortment of tuna, amberjack, and marinated mackerel. Since it was my first time at the restaurant, I chose the "Fried Cod with Tartar Sauce" for 650 yen. Inside, pop music similar to cable radio was playing, giving it an izakaya-like atmosphere. Despite visiting after the busy hours, several more customers arrived later, picking up magazines and newspapers placed near the entrance before taking a seat. Although it seemed to cater more to male customers, there were surprisingly a few solo female customers and groups of older women. The interior had a counter with stools for about 4 people facing the kitchen, 4 tables, and a large table with seating for about 10 people around it. The place seemed to be run by a man who appeared to be the owner and two women, and during the busy hours, they seemed quite busy, with the cleanup not keeping up and forgetting to come take orders for a while, but that added to the charm. The service was friendly and good, although some people might find it lacking. About 10 minutes later, the food was brought out. The variety of side dishes was pleasing to see. It included "Fried Cod with shredded cabbage, simmered fiddleheads, bamboo shoots and watercress, raw baby octopus, broccoli and tuna salad, miso soup, rice, pickles." I started with the miso soup, which seemed to have a slightly white miso flavor, with plenty of daikon and chopped vegetables (probably mizuna?). The raw baby octopus had a subtle wasabi kick, and while I couldn't tell if it was fresh, it was a nice dish as I don't usually eat it. The bamboo shoots and watercress, as well as the broccoli and tuna salad, were decent, but as I ate, I realized that none of the dishes were particularly delicious, and it seemed like they were focusing more on quantity than quality. The main dish of fried cod was also decent, just like eating regular white fish. The tartar sauce was mostly mayonnaise. The rice was cooked and tasted average. Overall, the food was average in taste and quality, but for 650 yen, being able to eat this much at a restaurant is not common, so I rated the value for money highly."
