(Visit on 2016.12.10) Half a year since my last visit to Kyoto (3rd place... and the last one haha) (^^♪ I had plans to meet up with a friend at 19:00, but I had some time to spare before that, so I decided to take a stroll around Nishiki Market and buy some tamagoyaki to take home. However, it was already late and there were only a few left. I noticed steam rising from a shop on the southwest corner of Tomikoji Street, so I thought I'd take a look. I arrived at "Koukyuuan Kyoto Nishiki Main Store" located at 188 Uoya-cho, Tomikoji-dori, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto. The store is open from 11:00 to 19:00 and is closed from 1/1 to 1/6. I found out later that the name is read as "houkyuuan." Surprisingly, the company is based in Osaka! The shop has branches in various locations such as Kyoto Kiyomizu, Yufuin, Ise Jingu, Arima Onsen, Kinosaki Onsen, and Otaru. They use only the highest quality surimi made from white fish and threadfin bream here. The surimi is shaped into sticks or circles and skewered, making it easy to eat while walking. The menu includes octopus with shiso, squid tempura, shrimp tempura, cheese, fried oysters, potato with butter, lotus root, sweet potato, wood ear mushrooms, ginger, and shredded burdock root. I ordered the ginger for 450 yen. Since it's an order at the storefront, you pay and receive it immediately. I had to put the change in my wallet and ended up taking a bite without realizing it. "Oh? This is delicious!" I couldn't resist taking another bite (*´ω`*) haha. A proper food blogger would take a photo before eating, but oh well! The ginger bits throughout added a nice touch. The size was about 10cm in diameter, seemed big at first, but it disappeared in no time. I was planning to go to one more place before heading back, but the train schedule didn't allow it. Kyoto, I'll be back! Wait for me~ haha. Thank you for the meal♪
