Spring is the season to go flower viewing. Japanese sweets like Hanami Dango, which represents flowers, snow, and young leaves with its three colors, are popular among people of all ages. The staff at Japanese sweets shops are very helpful and will explain everything to you. The Hanami Dango lasts for two days.

This is Kyoto. In Kyoto, there is a shop on the 2nd street of Fushimi, Otesuji Shopping Street. I happened to pass by the front of the shop... and passed by... a shop? A bun shop? There was also red rice, right? The shop was only about one door wide, but it had delicious sweets, rice cakes, red rice, and more. The sweet potato buns looked very delicious, so I couldn't resist buying them. I also bought the San'kasu with chestnuts. The San'kasu had big chestnuts inside, and the skin was moist and very delicious. The sweet potato buns had a moist skin and a refined sweetness of sweet bean paste, which was irresistibly delicious. I would like to buy them again when I come nearby.

This time, I visited "Narumi Mochi Otosuji Shotengai" in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto. The shop is located in a small take-out only store in the shopping street. Unfortunately, they were sold out of ohagi, so I purchased a tsubuan dorayaki and a chestnut dorayaki. The chestnut dorayaki had plenty of chestnuts inside and a nice combination with the moderately sweet red bean paste. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I obtained some mountain vegetable rice cakes that I haven't eaten in a long time. There was only one left in the glass case. "Is this the last one?" "We receive two every day." It was either 320 yen or 350 yen. I took a bite from the corner before steaming it with mackerel. It's a rice steamed dish. Hmm, it's a bit soft and salty. That's just my impression when eating it. I usually make it with red rice to balance out the bitterness of the azuki beans. Maybe I'll try it with the co-op's red rice next time.

Even though the Children's Day has passed, my wife has recently become obsessed with Kashiwa mochi. This shop is located next to a okonomiyaki restaurant, with a narrow space. Inside the glass case, a staff member or the owner came out. Each mochi costs 200 yen. It was around 4 pm on Sunday, so they might be closing soon. We bought 2 Kashiwa mochi for 320 yen plus 200 yen tax, and they only had miso filling. The mochi was thick with a miso filling mixed with white bean paste, not too sticky. They also had mountain vegetable rice in the glass case, which I will try next time.

I had only ever bought snacks from Narumi Mochi at department stores before, but this time I purchased them at a major shopping street store! The sales space was small, so there were few products available. The red rice from Narumi Mochi is very delicious. Among the red rice from traditional Japanese sweet shops, I like the chestnut red rice from Demachi Futaba (limited to autumn) the best, but the chestnuts in this one are exceptional! I think the red rice without chestnuts from Narumi Mochi's main store is the most delicious. They also had red rice at the major shopping street store, but this time I bought dorayaki (189 yen) and chestnut manju (189 yen) that I had never tried before. I enjoyed them at home♪ The chestnut manju is a round chestnut bun with white bean paste and chestnuts inside. It feels luxurious, but it's a bit crumbly. I thought it might be better with candied chestnuts instead of raw chestnuts. The dorayaki has a moist and slightly chewy dough with a moderately sweet red bean paste, and it also had candied chestnuts. This dorayaki is delicious. This time I bought steamed buns and dorayaki, but Narumi Mochi is a mochi shop, and their mochi is delicious. The aroma of the glutinous rice is good! The red rice is especially delicious. I have never had a disappointing mochi snack from them. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely go back for more.

I used it on August 24th. I had lunch and bought bread for tomorrow. Now all that's left is a snack. I was planning on getting cake but while walking along the main street, I came across a small shop called "Narumi Mochi" that sells red bean rice cakes and ohagi. It's always in this area, kind of like a small booth in a department store. I couldn't resist and ended up buying a delicious warabi mochi, my favorite, in a black sugar flavor. It was around 326 yen, I think. I forgot the exact price but it was around that. My impression after eating it was "so delicious". The black sugar flavor was intense. I was lucky to find it. I checked their website and they have been in business for a year and a half already. I didn't even realize. I highly recommend it if you are in the area of the main street. I often use it at Daimaru and Takashimaya, and their red bean rice cakes are also delicious and reasonably priced.
