This is a cafeteria at Kyoto University. It is a bit pricey for a cafeteria, so Kyoto University students often use the René, North, and Central cafeterias. It gives more of a restaurant vibe with many staff, professors, and tourists. I had tofu with a bean sauce and chicken on this day. It came with soup and rice. Coffee is refillable when you order, which is a nice option for caffeine addicts.

I went out for lunch. It was my first time visiting this place that I had been curious about for years. It seems that they used to have various menus, but now they have a style where you choose one of three lunch menus. The menu changes daily, I wonder? All of them cost 650 yen. On this day, there were fried chicken with miso sauce, pasta with Kujo green onions and bacon, and chicken over rice. I chose the pasta with Kujo green onions and bacon, and despite ordering at the same time as another person, they served it quite quickly. The portion was larger than typical pasta dishes at other restaurants. The pasta had a strong garlic flavor, and it was very satisfying. The amount, taste, and price make it quite a deal! The location is convenient, so I plan to go back again.

The other day, I visited Kyoto University Museum during my vacation. After finishing the tour, it was already lunchtime. I found a restaurant near the university main gate serving pasta, so I decided to try it. The Bolognese pasta was sold out, so I ordered the steamed chicken Genovese recommended by the staff. The seasoning was to my liking and very delicious. The portion size was generous for the price, living up to the standards of a university restaurant. For an additional 100 yen, you can have all-you-can-drink coffee or tea in paper cups, allowing you to take a break after eating. Although I probably won't have many reasons to visit Kyoto University again, if I happen to be nearby for sightseeing, I would definitely like to enjoy another lunch there.

I visited this place on a day when there was a local event nearby. It was more relaxing than I expected, so I decided to have lunch at "Canfora". It's a building located just to the left after entering the main gate of Kyoto University. It can be used by anyone, not just university students, and on this day, it was being used by many locals. The interior of the restaurant is simple yet stylish, creating a nice atmosphere. I tried the President's curry, which is also sold at the university's store. It came with steak on top, and the meat was of good quality for the price. The curry itself had no ingredients, just the curry roux, and it was not spicy, making it enjoyable for a wide range of ages. At 756 yen, it was quite a good deal. The hamburger with demi-glace sauce for lunch was 605 yen. By the time I finished my meal, the sign at the entrance had been turned over to correct the dinner menu and focus on lunch instead. I wonder if the chicken cutlet for dinner was also switched to lunch. I would have liked to try that too. Thank you for the meal.

The co-op stores had shortened hours during spring break, and the most affordable and spacious Central Cafeteria had already closed at 2 pm. This place was open, so I decided to go in. I sat by the window and waited a bit for the service to come. Finally, I ordered the salmon Genovese pasta for 702 yen. I didn't have high expectations, but the pink pepper sprinkled on top was a surprisingly nice touch, elevating the ordinary pasta dish. The fettuccine was cooked just right. I took a break from sightseeing in Kyoto and decided to stop by the cafeteria at Kyoto University called "Canfora". Although I wasn't particularly hungry, I felt it would be a waste to just have beer, so I decided to try some other items as well. Location: It's located in the Kyoto University main campus, right on the left as you enter. It's around the area facing the Marutamachi intersection. The nearest station is Demachiyanagi, but to be honest, it's not very accessible. Exterior: It's a one-story building with limited space. There was a bit of a line, but it moved quickly so I didn't have to wait long. Interior: I visited on a weekend, so despite being a cafeteria, all the customers were adults. I wanted a window seat to see the Clock Tower, but they were all taken. I ended up at an interior table, far from the view. The floor had light wood flooring, and the walls and ceiling were white, giving a bright overall impression. There were quite a few seats, with around 70 according to Tabelog, but it felt like they could fit more depending on the season. Food: I ordered a White Nile beer for 410 yen, which was surprisingly affordable. It's a joint development between Waseda and Kyoto University, made using ancient Egyptian wheat to enhance drinking volume. The beer had a light taste, but the portion was not very large, so the cost-effectiveness wasn't that noticeable. They also offer Heartland beer and wine by the bottle, so you have other options. I also tried the Chancellor's Curry, opting for the Beef Curry (756 yen) with white rice. The curry was unexpectedly delicious, with a nice balance of spices and a slight creaminess, possibly from coconut milk. The quality of the beef was also good, making it worth the price.

When did the school cafeteria become so stylish...and it's a national university. It's a nice cafe space, but if you can afford to spend 1.5 times the budget of the bento sold on the street (well, you can), this lunch pasta is much better in terms of cost performance.

At Canfora on Kyoto University campus, I had the Vice-Chancellor's curry for 756 yen. I was expecting cafeteria curry but it was more like curry from a Western-style restaurant. You can choose between white rice and five-grain rice. The spiciness was just right and for this price, I was satisfied. A must-visit if you come to Kyoto University.

It is a shop on the Yoshida Campus of Kyoto University. The interior is stylish, the food is delicious, and the menu is extensive. The portion size is just right. It was unfortunate that the employees seemed to be irritated.
