When I visited Arashiyama, I was drawn to the menu board outside a shop and decided to go in. It was around 11:30 am on a weekday. The shop is located across the road from the Keifuku Arashiyama Station, in a corner of the commercial facility "Arashiyama Shoryuen". It faces the prefectural road, making it easy to enter. Inside the shop, there is a calm Japanese atmosphere, with most of the space dedicated to selling pickled vegetables, and a small eat-in space at the back. The eat-in space has two 4-person table seats. When I entered, there were about 3-4 groups of customers in the sales area, mostly elderly people. In the eat-in space, you can enjoy the "Grilled Onigiri with Kyoto Pickles and Dashi Tea Pickles" and "Kyoto Pickled Vegetable Sushi" as introduced on the menu board. I visited with another person and ordered "Grilled Onigiri with Kyoto Pickles and Dashi Tea Pickles x2 for 540 yen each" and "Kyoto Pickled Vegetable Sushi (5 pieces) for 648 yen" (including tax). For the "Grilled Onigiri with Kyoto Pickles and Dashi Tea Pickles," you can choose from two types of grilled onigiri (soy sauce flavor, miso flavor) and seven types of Kyoto pickles (pickled beans, soy sauce pickled daikon, yukari purple, minced pickles, mustard pickled daikon, ura sansho, country scent). I chose soy sauce flavor with yukari purple, and the other person chose miso flavor with minced pickles. It was brought to us in about 5 minutes. The "Grilled Onigiri with Kyoto Pickles and Dashi Tea Pickles" is served in a shallow bowl. Small grilled onigiri are half-soaked in dashi broth, topped with Kyoto pickles, shredded green shiso, shredded myoga, arare rice crackers, and shredded nori. Wasabi paste is also served. The elegant yet flavorful dashi broth is excellent. The saltiness is just right with the grilled onigiri and Kyoto pickles. The savory aroma of the grilled onigiri, the acidity and texture of the Kyoto pickles, and the flavor of the condiments combined to make it quite delicious. It was quickly finished. The "Kyoto Pickled Vegetable Sushi (5 pieces)" consists of 3 nigiri sushi (pickled daikon, long yam with wasabi pickles, red turnip pickles) and 2 gunkan sushi (yukari purple, cucumber with shredded pickles). Yuzu pickled daikon was served on the side. The sushi pieces were small and easy to eat, with a light flavor that we enjoyed. I quite liked the Kyoto pickled vegetable dashi tea pickles and sushi. Sometimes, a light lunch like this is nice.
