"My mother requested to go to a yakitori restaurant, so my father and I celebrated her birthday there. My father drove us home, and we toasted with sake. Yakitori and sake go well together. We started with a yakitori assortment and then ordered randomly. We ate quite a bit and were full. Both my father and mother enjoyed the food. The interior of the restaurant is sophisticated and stylish. It's a great place for a trendy meal. Thank you very much. Oh, it's safer to make a reservation. It's a popular place, and even on this day, customers started coming in steadily from the 6:00 opening time."

It's been a while. I ordered an 8-piece set of skewers, including one for 400 yen. The restaurant is full of regular customers, it's very popular. The skewer I had wasn't that delicious, I preferred the pork miso skewer. I had two mugs of beer. I paid the bill and left.

Hirata, located about 10 minutes from Nakajima Island and Fushimi Momoyama, is a great place. Everything was delicious, but the white liver and pork miso were especially good. The pork miso was so tasty that I ended up putting it on top of rice and making my own bowl. The selection of Japanese sake was also excellent. I want to go back again. The service was polite and kind, and it was a wonderful restaurant.

It's been about half a year since I last visited, after playing in Europe and cooling down in Japan. I had the 8-course meal. The appetizers were as delicious as always, and all the skewers were tasty, especially the quail and the fried dishes. The fried dishes were seasoned with ginger, which was a nice change from before when it was grated daikon. I forgot to take a picture of the bonjiri. I had two medium-sized beers, and the total came to 2980 yen. Thank you for the meal.

It was the usual disappointing gathering after the Kyoto horse racing. We had a few drinks before heading to the restaurant, which opens at 6 pm. Despite having a reservation, our usual seats were already taken, so we were seated at the counter towards the back, which made me a bit uneasy. Nonetheless, we enjoyed dishes like pork belly and left in high spirits. The pork belly was a bit pricey but of good quality. The service, as always, was polite and satisfying.

The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was comfortable. The menu is limited, so it might be better for a second stop rather than a first. The food was delicious from the appetizers to the end.

The pork miso here is delicious after all. It goes well with the mackerel. I will definitely visit again.

午後の憂鬱

Drinking slowly on a Monday night is the way to go. I visited this restaurant for the first time in a year and a half. I had already decided on the 8-course meal for 1480 yen, which used to be 1380 yen. Interestingly, there was no sashimi menu today. The hijiki appetizer was slightly sweet, beautifully presented, and elegant. The quail was perfectly seasoned. The cabbage with dressing was served as well, totaling 1780 yen. I also had two medium-sized glasses of beer. The pork belly with onions and the famous pork miso were delicious. The enoki mushrooms were thinly sliced and rolled, while the cartilage had a beautifully charred finish. The thick fried tofu seemed longer than before. The whole dish was soaked in vinegar soy sauce. Be careful of burning your mouth. I made a careless mistake, but this restaurant really knows what they're doing. Impressive. However, considering the price of 1780 yen, it lacked a bit of flair. I'm not sure about the history of the restaurant, but the daughter-like figure helping out was a respectable adult. The owner was indeed of a certain age, much like myself. As I was leaving the restaurant, I felt like the daughter had taken care of us... (^^;

I visited the restaurant after about half a year. Here are some details I noticed, so I'll write a bit about it. 1. The set for 1380 yen now includes sesame seeds, making it 8 pieces. 2. The seasoning was quite salty. 3. On this day, the owner, his wife, and another person were working, but the restaurant was only half full and a bit chaotic. I ordered the set, one zucchini, and two draft beers, and the total was just under 3000 yen. I finally felt like entering this restaurant. Oct. 2015 I arrived at 5:30, the first customer. There were reservations for two groups. Since it was my first time and I couldn't decide on the details, I ordered the 7-piece set for 1380 yen. The appetizer was paprika, okra, and green beans. It was nice to have a warm-up before the high-calorie dishes. Next came the cabbage. It was soaked in a slightly sour sauce, like a shallow pickling base. The quail wrapped in bacon looked picturesque. The enoki mushrooms were cut in half, making them easy to eat. The pork miso was rich and delicious. The thick fried tofu with ponzu sauce reminded me of "Deep in front of the Mausoleum of Momoyama." The white liver was not part of the set. It was cooked lightly and fluffy. I was very satisfied with the careful cooking. The chef is a quiet type, but he will answer questions when asked. By the way, the shichimi on the plate is not from a shichimi shop but their own blend. P.S. When I revisited on the weekend, the dishes were overcooked, and the enoki mushrooms were not cut. It's not good when they are busy. I'll try to go when it seems less busy.

This is a family-run restaurant. At first glance, it may seem intimidating to enter, but once you step inside, you'll find it surprisingly cozy. Although I have visited multiple times, I hadn't written a review until now (oops). While yakitori restaurants often focus solely on skewered chicken, this place, true to its name "Hakata Kushiyaki," also offers sashimi, which is a nice touch. The freshness is outstanding. This place is great for both meat and fish lovers. I was curious about what Hakata Kushiyaki is all about, so I did some research. Apparently, it means skewering not just chicken, but also pork, beef, or anything else. Additionally, the shredded cabbage that comes out first is a staple of Hakata Kushiyaki. While these elements are not particularly unique, this restaurant stands out for its overall elegance and attention to detail. The skewers are not just a mishmash of ingredients, but rather meticulously prepared. The yakitori is mostly seasoned with salt, highlighting the quality of the ingredients and offering delicate flavors. If you're looking for large portions, you might find it lacking, but the small yet flavorful skewers are perfect as a drinking snack. They also offer bottles of shochu. Personally, I highly recommend the pork miso skewer. There are few yakitori restaurants in the area that exude a calm atmosphere while also providing a sense of security. The quality is high, the atmosphere is homey, and the prices are reasonable. This has become one of my favorite spots, and I've visited countless times.

Overall rating: 3.9 Food & taste: 3.9 Service: 3.5 Atmosphere: 3.4 Cost performance: 3.8 Alcohol & dishes: 3.5 I visited this restaurant based on the information that their grilled skewers are delicious. The location of the restaurant is nice, situated in the middle of a charming shopping street with a traditional Japanese exterior. The interior of the restaurant is clean and spacious, with a relaxed seating arrangement at the counter and tables. I ordered a variety of dishes, including the classic grilled chicken skewers and creative skewers. The prices for the skewers range from 160 yen to around 450 yen, but the quality of the food justifies the cost. The skewers are generously sized and cooked to perfection, with a tender and flavorful texture. I particularly enjoyed the grilled pork miso skewer, which had a slightly sweet miso sauce that reminded me of a nostalgic flavor from the past. The white liver skewer was also impressive, cooked rare and tender. The quail skewer wrapped in bacon was a unique twist, resembling a solid carbonara sauce. The restaurant's unique and artistic tableware added to the dining experience, enhancing the presentation of the dishes. Overall, I had a satisfying meal enjoying the delicious skewers. However, despite the high quality of the food, the restaurant seemed less crowded compared to a similar restaurant I had visited before. The lack of the distinct smell of grilled skewers and the distant interaction with the owner were minor drawbacks that affected my overall impression of the restaurant.

I was lured in by the sign for Hakata skewers and decided to try "Hitata." The restaurant was not listed on Tabelog, but it seems that a senior reviewer who loves alcohol registered it. There were no reviews yet, so I will be the first to write one. I had passed by the restaurant quite often, but it always seemed quiet with only a few regular customers inside. The restaurant was small and lacked any vibrant atmosphere or business-like feel, so I had a somewhat negative impression of it. However, upon entering, I was surprised to find a bright and clean interior. The menu had a good variety of dishes, including a sashimi platter, pig's feet, various skewers, and more. The quality of the food was quite good, and it was clear that the chef had skill. The pig's feet, a specialty of Hakata, were firm and full of collagen, a rarity in Kyoto. I recommended it to a friend, but they found it off-putting. The owner, who was usually quiet, mentioned that he was from Kyoto and was not a fan of pig's feet either. It made me wonder if pig's feet are considered a strange food in Kyoto. Despite this, the pig's feet were the most popular dish at the restaurant. A few more customers came in and left quickly, while I ended up staying longer, enjoying some shochu and sake. The quality of the ingredients was good, and I found the food to be tastier than at a famous nearby yakitori restaurant. I wondered why the restaurant tried to remain inconspicuous. Perhaps it was because of the pig's feet? I may have caused trouble by writing this review, but I will definitely visit again soon.

This is a creative skewers restaurant located in the Nayamachi shopping street. The counter had neatly arranged skewers in the display case. It seems to be run by the master and the mistress. The skewers in the display case looked beautiful, which must be the master's personality. A complimentary dish of cabbage slaw was served, with original dressing. We ordered chicken tataki, all kinds of skewers from the display case, watercress salad, heart, and onigiri. We were quite full. The tataki took a while to be served as it was written on the menu, but the master served each skewer carefully. There were two groups of regular customers. It's not a very busy restaurant, but the interior was clean and nice. Thank you for the meal.

I made a reservation by phone on the same day. It was a weekday, but it was fully booked! Some customers couldn't get in because it was packed, so I'm glad I called ahead. I tried white liver for the first time! It was so delicious that I ended up eating 5 skewers! Everything was a hit, no misses!! I was curious about the pig's feet, but I couldn't bring myself to try them...(*_*) It's rare for a skewer restaurant to be non-smoking, which is great. In this area, Torisei is popular for yakitori restaurants, but I prefer Hirata's yakitori.

It's a yakitori restaurant, so they not only have grilled chicken skewers but also pork skewers, vegetables, and tofu. They even serve thick fried tofu skewers. As someone who prefers salt seasoning for yakitori, I am very happy with this place. There are no disappointments here. They also serve a classic dish from Hakata, which is roughly chopped cabbage with a special sauce. They offer small glasses for beer, which is convenient. They have a wide variety of highball options. Sake is served in small cups. The restaurant may look a bit intimidating from the outside, but once you step in, it has a cozy atmosphere. It's a non-smoking establishment, and smokers have to go outside to smoke.

I think this restaurant is run by a family, with the head chef, the hostess, and maybe their daughter. When you open the door, they greet you warmly. I like coming here occasionally with my companion. Although they have tables, we always sit at the counter since it's just the two of us. Soon after we sit down, they bring out some cabbage, which seems to be a complimentary dish. This time, the appetizer was grilled edamame with branches. Apart from skewers, this place also serves sashimi, with several types of fish listed as recommendations on a blackboard. The salads and other dishes are surprisingly generous in portion size. The skewers are not as big, though. Among them, I always have the collagen-rich pig's feet. They offer a variety of shochu and highball drinks, as well as Premium Malts beer. They also have wine, so you won't have trouble finding something to drink. After using the restroom, they provide a warm towel for you to wipe your hands, although it's self-service and they don't offer paper towels. I wonder if it's their way of showing attention to detail? (The towels are really nice, too.) I'm looking forward to trying their grilled ginkgo nuts in the fall.
