The high-quality mackerel sushi, priced at 2400 yen for 6 pieces, is wrapped in real bamboo leaves and feels heavy in your hand. Even before you open it, the excitement builds up. You can imagine the samurai carrying this in their pockets, feeling the same excitement. When you take a bite, the thick mackerel with rich fat melts in your mouth, leaving a sweet taste. Once you try it, you may never be able to go back to supermarket mackerel sushi. The deliciousness makes you feel like it's worth more than the price!

I wanted to buy mackerel sushi at Demachiyanagi, but it was close to 4 pm and there was only one bento left with mackerel, which was in batter style and had rolled sushi. There were no other options, so I chose this one. It cost 890 yen. I ate it on the Shinkansen. The mackerel wasn't as thin as in batter style, but I wish it had more thickness. The taste was not bad.

I wanted to eat mackerel sushi, so I headed to Mansukegama. When I saw about 15 people lined up during the lunch break of the Bon holidays, I gave up. On my way back, I found it and bought it for takeout. In Kyoto, there used to be a "mackerel road," which influenced the many shops that handle mackerel sushi. I was expecting the thick mackerel sushi often seen on TV, but this one had a thickness similar to what you can find in supermarkets. If I had to say, the vinegar rice was just right (a little sour)! The fishy smell of the mackerel was removed, making it easy to eat. The cost performance might be a bit lacking considering the thickness of the mackerel.

Sushi sushi~ I like you~ (Song: Taffy Dell) After watching a wonderful dance performance at the Kyoto Art Theater, I got a little hungry and bought some sushi at "Ooiwa"! It's a shop famous for mackerel sushi, but that can be a bit pricey... (laughs) ★Pressed sushi and rolled sushi for 550 yen including tax♪ Three pieces each of pressed sushi and rolled sushi, with a light and natural flavor! It reminds me of the sushi I ate as a child... The lady serving us was very polite and made me happy~

I decided to buy a bento and eat at home after spending a long time in Demachiyanagi and deciding to head back to Osaka as the sun was setting. I bought the following items from this shop: - Eel bento for 890 yen - Sesame rice ball for 440 yen - Matsukado bento for 720 yen - Herring roll for 550 yen Unfortunately, their famous mackerel sushi was sold out. It's a shame. I went back home and enjoyed the eel bento, which was a great deal. Matsukado felt like a catering bento shop, similar to what you might find at train stations. I really wanted to try the mackerel sushi, so I'll have to come back for it next time. Thank you for the meal.

Visited in November 2019. It is currently 3.23 PM with 127 reviews. Located in Kyoto Demachiyanagi, the end point of the Mackerel Highway. There is a shop called Mansukei. Famous for udon and mackerel sushi, but I never paid attention to it during my student days. However, as an adult who now loves mackerel sushi, I remembered this place and decided to visit, only to find a terrifyingly long line. Huh? How did this place become so popular? I asked if takeout was possible and was told it would be a 40-minute wait, so I gave up. I ended up buying mackerel sushi from a nearby shop instead. As for the mackerel, it was decent in thickness for the price. It was quite well-seasoned, but it didn't quite match my preference for modern-style mackerel sushi. I heard Mansukei tends to serve it quite raw, which is what I wanted to try. They had a sign saying one piece costs 6,000 yen though!

I bought a bento box with mackerel sushi and rolled sushi from Demachi Futaba and ate it by the Kamogawa River. The mackerel sushi was unexpectedly delicious! The mackerel was thick, fresh, not too vinegary, and had a crispy texture. Highly recommended! The lady at the store was unique but friendly.

After purchasing fried food at Okada Shokai, I stopped by this shop that I had my eye on. I thought about going to Isehan Tea Room across the street to have anmitsu after eating the fried food, but I didn't want to spend too much time and I was in the mood for mackerel sushi that I was turned down for at Mansugata-ya earlier. So, I decided to buy mackerel sushi here. They had a half-size option (3 pieces) which was priced at around ¥550 (I think). It was affordable and just right. I quickly bought a drink at the convenience store across the street and sat on the bench in front of me to enjoy it. The acidity of the vinegared rice was strong, but it was decently tasty considering the price. After that, I headed to Demachiyanagi Station to go to my destination in Rakuhoku.

"My husband, who loves mackerel, was drawn to the words 'mackerel sushi' and decided to purchase it... Kyoto is famous for 'mackerel sushi', but as someone who doesn't dislike it but can't eat it, it's painful to see. In addition to 'mackerel sushi', they also sell 'pressed sushi' and 'rolls'. It seems that they are only available for takeout. We purchased 'half mackerel sushi: 1500 yen' and 'pressed sushi and assorted rolls with conger eel (price forgotten, probably around 500 yen)'. I think it was excluding tax... The thickness of the mackerel is decent, and the taste of the vinegared rice is also to my liking. The conger eel pressed sushi... The conger eel itself is thinly sliced, but it seems good for the price. There is 'nori' (seaweed) sandwiched between the rice, and the sweet sauce goes well with the conger eel. The rolls... these are average. The price is reasonable, so it's convenient for takeout as a light meal."

I love mackerel sushi, so I had been wanting to buy from Manjukata-ya in Demachiyanagi that I saw on TV. However, I heard that they often sell out quickly, so I was a bit hesitant even before going to check it out. Then, by chance, I saw this shop from the bus, and decided to stop by before seeing Manjukata-ya. To my surprise, they had delicious-looking mackerel sushi. So, I ended up buying one for 2,980 yen. This shop only sells directly to customers, with no seating or dining facilities. The atmosphere reminded me of Chiyoda Sushi in Kanto. The lady who served me was friendly and polite. The mackerel sushi for 2,980 yen was wrapped in bamboo leaves and carefully wrapped in plastic to prevent any leakage. Each slice had a piece of kelp on top. The slices were thick and the taste was excellent. Considering there are more expensive options out there, I thought the quality of this mackerel sushi at this price was really worth it.

In Hokkaido, while my 24-year-old son is home alone, I bought some souvenirs for him. After purchasing the Daichifutaba's bean mochi in Part 1, I found some take-out mackerel sushi! It may not be as famous as Izusou (which I didn't know about), but it's a great gift for my son who loves mackerel. Since this time I was heading from Kyoto to the airport, I couldn't buy anything with an expiration date of the day. When I got home and told my son, "I bought mackerel sushi," he was thrilled and immediately started eating it. The mackerel meat is thick and has a good chewy texture. It's easy to bite through. The vinegar rice is just right. It disappeared in no time. But, could it be a little cheaper?

I found a shop selling takeout saba sushi, rolled sushi, and inari sushi. I bought a dish called "Root Vegetable Inari" which looked delicious. It contained three pieces for 420 yen. I love the triangular inari sushi from Kyoto. The wrapping paper with "Kyoto Inari" written on it is nice! I wonder what vegetables were inside? Diced konjac and carrots were very prominent. There was also burdock in it. The fried tofu and filling (konjac) were both seasoned quite richly.

The love for mackerel sushi seems unstoppable. So, I visited a takeout and delivery specialist shop in Yase, Oiwa. This shop offers a variety of Kyoto-style sushi, with mackerel sushi as the main attraction. I'm not a big fan of plain mackerel sushi, so I opted for a set of pressed sushi for 800 yen. Upon unwrapping, the mackerel sushi looked thin and rectangular in shape, which wasn't quite to my liking. The set included two pieces of mackerel sushi, one each of belly and back, along with salmon, eel, and conger eel pressed sushi, and minced shiba-zuke and sesame seed rolled sushi. The mackerel sushi was juicy with a slightly strong vinegar taste, and the rice was standard. Overall, the sushi was decent but nothing exceptional. The price was average, so it's a safe choice when in a hurry. 3.2 stars.

I went there during the daytime on January 2nd. I recommend the mackerel sushi topped with grilled mackerel. It was very fragrant and had a good aroma. I personally like mackerel, but I think even people who are not fond of mackerel could enjoy it. I didn't know about the store called "Yase" when I went there, but the food was so delicious that I encountered an unforgettable taste. It's a takeout store, so it's perfect for bento boxes or souvenirs. Since there is no parking nearby, it's a place to go by walking or cycling. Also, there is a shopping street nearby, so if you have time, it's worth checking out.

I was surprised when I took a bite of Mr. Oiwa's mackerel sushi! The delicious fat of the mackerel spread gently in my mouth, and I was impressed by the exquisite taste. It's not sour, but rather has a slight sweetness that goes well with the fat. The portion is also generous and fills up the stomach perfectly. A whole piece of mackerel sushi, especially the part near the head, is very thick and satisfying to eat. Additionally, the meat is cleanly prepared, with only the unnecessary bloody parts removed. I have also been to another famous mackerel sushi restaurant in the city, where the meat, including the bloody parts, was cut off in a dome shape when viewed from the side. However, Mr. Oiwa's mackerel is very thick with a good balance of rice. Another favorite menu of mine is the "rolled omelette". This is included in eel bento boxes and other lunch boxes, and it is also exquisite. It is fluffy and has a gentle sweetness. Recently, vacuum-packed mackerel simmered in miso has been available, which I find very handy for breakfast. It has a rich flavor, with the belly part being fatty and tender. With this, I can easily eat two bowls of rice.

After buying kashiwa mochi at Demachi Futaba, I spotted mackerel sushi and decided to purchase it along with a nori roll for lunch. The mackerel was perfectly fatty and the kombu was well balanced, making it very delicious. The nori roll was also delicious with its firm nori. After enjoying the sushi, I also had the mochi, and the children's park pavilion in a corner of Kyoto Gyoen turned out to be a wonderful lunch venue.

This is a restaurant located in Demachiyanagi in Yaotani, Higashiyama Ward. There is a sign that says "Saba Kaido" (Mackerel Highway) as well. In Kyoto, where fresh fish is hard to come by, fish is considered a precious commodity. Saba-zushi (mackerel sushi) is a part of Kyoto's food culture. Today, the Saba-zushi and Sukeroku were sold out, so I bought a Gomoku Chirashi sushi to take home.

This is a sushi restaurant located in the shopping street of Demachiyanagi, without a parking lot. I have been curious about it every time I come to Demachi Futaba, and finally visited this time. Since it is called Yase, I wonder if there is a main store in Yase. I purchased the basic battera of mackerel. The mackerel with rich fat and light sushi vinegar was delicious. The umami of white kelp combined with the deliciousness of mackerel fat in the battera was great. There are also various other options like ageta (deep-fried tofu) and anago (conger eel), so I look forward to trying them in the future. I have a feeling that I will be doing a three-stop tour between Demachi Futaba, Korokke no Okada Shokai, and this place in the future.
