I went to Mr. Ji'ei Motoda's place for lunch today. The restaurant has been open for about 5 or 6 years, but it has a nostalgic atmosphere that feels like it has been around for 40 or 50 years. I had visited about 2 months ago, but it was closed, so I was glad to finally try it today. The old-fashioned Chinese soba was incredibly delicious, with tender char siu and thin noodles. The taste seemed familiar, like I had tried it somewhere before, maybe similar to Ichibanboshi in Okazaki. It was a faint memory, but it was a satisfying meal. Thank you for the delicious food.

Ordered the Chashu Ramen (regular) for 850 yen. It brings a sense of nostalgia in a good way, just your average delicious ramen. The chashu is tender and melts in your mouth. While it doesn't have any standout features, it's still a tasty bowl of ramen. The simplicity and deliciousness of this ramen is what makes it special. It's the kind of ramen you want to enjoy after a drink.

[Date] August 15, 2021 (Sunday) 12:50 PM [Food Rating] 3.34 [Waiting Time] None [Service] Good [Would Visit Again] Definitely [Payment Method] Cash I tried coming in the evening a few times, but it was always closed. Finally, I came for lunch and it was a hit! The atmosphere with the sound of cicadas and a comfortable temperature with a fan created a cozy environment. I like the casual and warm feeling here. [Ramen] [Noodles] Thin, straight noodles [Toppings] Pork chashu (2 slices), menma, chopped green onions [Soup] Mild chicken broth soy sauce The soup has a mild flavor and the finely chopped green onions are delicious when wrapped with the tender chashu. And it's affordable! Next time, I'll definitely try the chashu ramen! Ramen: 650 yen

I arrived at the restaurant around 12:30 PM, parked my car in the nearby coin parking lot, and entered. There were no other customers inside, so I sat at the counter near the entrance and ordered the "Ramen Regular" (650 yen). After waiting for about 5 minutes, a bowl was brought to me with a large slice of chashu, finely chopped negi, and menma. When I tried the soy sauce broth, it had a rich and flavorful taste with a slight thickness, not overly oily. The soup had a mellow flavor without much acidity, and the noodles were straight and thin, with a chewy texture that paired well with the soup. The pork belly chashu was tender and the fat melted in my mouth, making it very delicious. The portion of noodles was generous, there were plenty of chashu slices, and the price was reasonable, especially with the student discount available. While this ramen was a bit different from the typical soy sauce chicken back fat ramen common in this area, it was a delicious and rich soy sauce ramen with a nice depth of flavor.

Visited around 1 pm on Saturday, March 13, 2021. There were no other customers. The location may be a bit inconvenient, and the university is probably closed. It seems like the owner is running the place alone. I ordered the "Narige-don" and a thick, old-fashioned soy sauce ramen soup. This type of ramen is common in Kyoto. The soup is rich, and the combination of richness and the flavor of green onions is excellent. The noodles are a bit soft, which is typical for Kyoto. The taste of the chashu and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant are great! Overall, it felt like a delicious local ramen shop.

[Date] October 27, 2019 (Sunday) 8:05 PM [Food Rating] 3.45 [Waiting Time] None, no customers inside [Service] Good Located in a quiet residential area, the ramen shop with a single lantern has a nice atmosphere. Inside, the shop is run by the master alone, and the space is clean and simple without any unnecessary items. Even the bowl used for the ramen adds a nice touch to the experience. I ordered the regular ramen, which came with thin straight noodles, one and a half slices of pork char siu (a bonus?), menma, and chopped green onions. The soup was a cloudy chicken and soy sauce broth, not too light or too heavy, with a nostalgic flavor. The menma was soft and delicious, and the char siu was delicate and perfectly balanced between lean and fatty meat. Could it be that the char siu ramen is their specialty here? The chopped green onions were also a highlight, fresh and beautifully shining. Above all, the quality of this ramen for 650 yen is great value for money! I definitely want to come back here again.

Today, I visited "Jiei" for the first time. I ordered the Ramen Dai. The soup was a flavorful chicken broth with a hint of salt, allowing the sweetness of the chicken to come through. The thin noodles paired well with the soup, making it a good choice even for those who are not fans of strong-flavored ramen. The chashu topping was tender and packed with flavor, complementing the chicken-based soup perfectly. They only have lunch and dinner service, so you can't enjoy it in the evening, but it's definitely a hidden gem of delicious ramen. If you happen to be in the Moto Tanaka area, I highly recommend trying it out.

This ramen shop blends quietly into a residential area. I was impressed by the chef's silent approach to making ramen. I had the chashu ramen, and the chashu was incredibly tender and delicious. The soup had a typical Kyoto ramen taste. It goes well with rice, so be sure to try that. Lately, there have been lines forming, but I definitely want to come back. Thank you for the meal.

Soy sauce flavor with a slight thickness. Deep taste. Noodles are a bit soft, and the chashu crumbles easily. It has a lingering flavor. Personally, I prefer the bamboo shoots a bit softer, but that's just my preference. I want to mix the green onions with the soup and eat them together.

I happened to find a ramen shop near Chayama Station. It is located in a competitive ramen area such as Ichijoji, so my expectations were high. The shop has a simple and old-fashioned image. It seems to be frequented by students from Kyoto University. The prices are not too high, falling within my budget for ramen. The ramen itself is a soy sauce tonkotsu broth, with a delicate flavor that I personally enjoyed. The atmosphere is calm and there are few tourists, which I appreciate. I will definitely visit again when I am in the area. Thank you for the meal.

This ramen was unusually delicious. It had a simple topping of chashu, menma, and green onions in a chicken and pork bone soup. The noodles were thin and firm, with a satisfying texture. The chashu was tender and flavorful, blending perfectly with the noodles. However, those who prefer more bold and impactful ramen may find this one lacking. Overall, it was a ramen with a subtle yet noticeable attention to detail. It had a stronger pork bone flavor compared to Kyoto-style ramen, with a well-balanced broth that is perfect for finishing off a meal. It pairs well with rice and is a rare find of straightforward ramen that leaves an impression.

There was a ramen shop that opened near my parents' house. I dropped off my wife and daughter at Izumiya in Takano in the morning, and then headed to the ramen shop myself. The location was in Tanaka Hinokuchi-cho, Sakyo-ku, next to Kitchen Gorilla. The menu displayed outside listed ramen, chashu ramen, rice, egg rice, and beer, with a special offer of "all items 50 yen off for a limited time." When I entered the shop just after 11:30, there was one customer already waiting for their food. The cozy interior had seating for about 6 people at the counter, and for some reason, there was a kotatsu set up in the back. I sat at the front seat, and the owner brought me a glass of water. I quickly ordered the chashu ramen for 800 yen after the discount. On the table, there were condiments like black pepper, chili pepper, and doubanjiang. It's hard to believe that the famous Kitchen Gorilla used to operate in such a small place before. If they had so many customers, they must have had to move to a larger location. As I pondered this, the ramen was served over the counter. The bowl came with a plate. The ramen had a layer of back fat on the surface, and the toppings included chashu pork, green onions, and bamboo shoots. I tried the soup first, expecting the back fat to be heavy, but it was surprisingly refreshing. The chicken bone broth was rich, combined with a mellow soy sauce base, making it quite tasty. The noodles were thin straight noodles, and I couldn't tell where they were made, but they had a good chewy texture. The chashu pork was made from pork belly, very tender and melting in the hot soup. The seasoning was also decent. There were plenty of green onions, which helped balance out the richness of the back fat ramen. The bamboo shoots were likely homemade, with a slightly strong flavor. The crunchy texture was enjoyable. I decided to add some chili pepper from the table, and its spiciness hit me directly. Overall, while there are many famous ramen shops in places like Ichijo-ji, Jiei in the residential area of Moto-Tanaka also offers some delicious Kyoto ramen. It was a tasty bowl of ramen.

A certain reviewer mentioned that the fresh green onions for the toppings can be found here, so I visited the place since I was nearby. The location is right in front of Kitchen Gorilla, which has high ratings but I personally have doubts about. Unofficial information suggests that this place used to be Kitchen Gorilla. I arrived during lunchtime at around 12:10, worried about it being crowded. The curtain was up, but when I stood in front of the entrance, it seemed dark and I hesitantly entered. There was one customer inside who left as soon as I arrived. Another customer entered right after me. There were no more customers until I left. The interior had 6 counter seats and one round table in the back. I sat at the counter and looked at the menu. I haven't been eating anything other than regular ramen recently, but I ordered the Chashu ramen in large size and also some rice. The ramen arrived in about 8 minutes. The appearance and taste were like a Matsuta-style Chashu made with pork belly that was either cooked thoroughly or overcooked, making it very soft and easily falling apart, almost like shredded Chashu. I don't like this! The green onions were freshly cut on the spot, unlike other ramen shops where they are pre-cut and dry. It looked fresh and clean. They have been offering a 50 yen discount since opening, claiming it's for a limited time, but maybe it's a marketing strategy to make it seem like a discount? (laughs) The ramen was delicious, but the lack of customers during lunchtime was a bit sad. Maybe it's because of the location?

The shop was rated 3.12 during the visit. This ramen shop opened this year. It is located near Mototanaka Station, two stops away from Ichijoji, a ramen street in Sakyo Ward. The shop is situated in the middle of a residential area with several 100 yen parking lots nearby, making it relatively easy to access. Around 1:00 PM with no other customers, it felt a bit lonely. I ordered the Chashu Ramen for 850 yen, but they still offer the 50 yen discount from the opening, so it's actually 800 yen. The ramen had a rich chicken soy sauce broth with a slightly light taste despite the visible oil on the surface. The pork belly chashu had a melt-in-your-mouth texture. The thin noodles had a good chewiness. This ramen might be to my liking. If my next visit is also positive, this could become a ramen shop I frequent.
