At the last farewell party before leaving Kyoto, we used a yakiniku restaurant facing Higashioji Street in Sakyo-ku. It is bustling with students during the day and night, with an all-you-can-eat menu at night and affordable lunch specials during the day. It is an old-fashioned smoky type of restaurant, so it may not be suitable for a date. The friendly and cheerful personality of the owner shines through, making it a cozy and welcoming place. When we ordered plum wine not on the menu, they happily brought it out, and when we were discussing ordering kimchi, they quickly brought it out before we even finished saying "kimchi." It is a speedy restaurant, so even with the all-you-can-eat and drink option, the orders are served promptly. You can eat a lot and drink a lot at a reasonable price. It has a homely and warm atmosphere, making it highly recommended. ♡

I discovered a convenient place for solo dining with a lunch special of yakiniku. While all-you-can-eat courses are great for groups, the lunch special is also a good deal. You can choose from kalbi, horumon, and pork belly for lunch, and even mix two types together. You can also choose the amount of rice you want. I ordered the AC mix of 250g of kalbi and pork belly with rice for 1090 yen. This price also included kimchi and miso soup, making it very satisfying. The pork belly was tender and the kalbi was delicious. The original sauce was also tasty, and I ended up feeling full and satisfied. I would like to try the all-you-can-eat option next time.

A nostalgic and deep-looking yakiniku restaurant in front of Tanaka, a neighborhood in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto. The local old men seem to fit in perfectly, reading horse racing newspapers while enjoying their yakiniku. They offer yakiniku lunch for around 800-1000 yen during the day, and mainly all-you-can-eat courses for 2980 yen in the evening. I ordered the lunch set with kalbi and hormone for 1090 yen. An old man handles the customer service, and a middle-aged man, probably his son, takes care of the cooking. I checked other reviews before going, and some mentioned the service being a bit peculiar, but my experience was smooth. The miso soup was delicious, a bit on the salty side. The meat quality was good, better than chain yakiniku restaurants like Rak*ku. It's like a casual dining place, but with good quality meat. For around 1000 yen, you can get a 250g yakiniku set, so it's a great deal. The yakiniku sauce was also on the salty side, which went well with the generous portion of rice. I devoured the meal. There were three university girls eating there, and also a local horse racing enthusiast. It's an interesting mix of people enjoying their lunch yakiniku. I really liked the atmosphere and will definitely come back if I have the chance.

Located a 3-minute walk from Eizan Dentetsu Mototanaka Station, this restaurant has no parking lot. It is a well-established yakiniku restaurant in Kyoto. It has a nice exterior and interior with a certain level of cleanliness. Each table is equipped with a smoke exhaust system. If you enter by 1:45 pm, you can enjoy a great value lunch. The weekday customer traffic is sparse but consistent. Everyone seems to order the "Satonoya Lunch" mix of kalbi and hormone. I also ordered the large portion with 300g for 1090 yen including tax. In addition to the meat, it comes with rice (with one refill allowed), miso soup, and kimchi. The meat quality is decent and tender. The sauce is sweet with a good thickness, making it go well with rice. However, the highlight is the volume and price, which can be considered a bargain. Although water is self-serve, they poured it for me. The restaurant is run by an elderly couple, and I hope they continue for a long time. Children below elementary school age are not allowed to enter. Just a heads up.

A yakiniku restaurant with a retro atmosphere. It may take some courage to enter if you are unfamiliar. I ordered the Sato no Ya Lunch Mix A+B, which comes with rice, kimchi, and miso soup. A includes kalbi and B includes hormone. You can get a rice refill for free for 850 yen. Since it's a lunch set, the rice and meat come out quickly after ordering. It's not the best quality meat, but for this price, the portion is satisfying enough.

Sainoya, a long-established yakiniku restaurant in Hyakumanben
I've been going to the Hyakumanben area about once a week recently due to work reasons. It's an area where Kyoto University is located, so there are many students, and the lunches tend to be hearty. Today, I visited the long-established yakiniku restaurant "Sainoya". I'm not sure how long they have been in business, but you can really feel the history here. It would be great for a drinking party at night.
I was the first customer for lunch. There are two table sets and six tatami rooms. The homely atmosphere is nice, and the casual vibe of the owner is also great. In the evening, they offer an all-you-can-eat and drink option for 2990 yen. It must be lively and bustling.
Sainoya Lunch B: 880 yen
There are three types of lunches: A, B, and C.
A Lunch: Kalbi Set for 780 yen
B Lunch: Kalbi and Hormone Set for 880 yen
C Lunch: Hormone Set for 680 yen
You can add extra meat for 200 yen. It comes with white rice, miso soup, and kimchi. You can get a second helping of the mountain of white rice! I chose the B lunch on this day. Coated in a sweet and savory sauce, the Kalbi on rice was a delight. I ended up getting a second helping of rice. I regret not adding more meat later (I didn't check the menu properly).
Hyakumanben has many good restaurants. I will continue to introduce more!

I visited for lunch and really wanted to eat meat, so I decided to go here! Sato no Ya is often used for small circle gatherings. The old man there is nice. I ordered the C set with kalbi and horumon for lunch. It arrived quickly since you cook it yourself. I'm not very knowledgeable about meat, but the meat at yakiniku restaurants is definitely different. The meat is thick and shiny when grilled on the iron grill. The rice was also delicious! The horumon was tasty, but personally, I think it's better to go with the A set with just kalbi to fully enjoy the meat. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is casual and very nice.

All-you-can-eat yakiniku with all-you-can-drink for ¥3800 (students ¥3000). Despite being cheap, I think the quality of the meat is good. The all-you-can-drink mainly includes beer, but we also received other services. Thank you very much!

I finally had the opportunity to eat hormone after about a month of craving it! I ordered the B set in a large portion. The quality of the meat is evident from its color and marbling. I believe this lunch, priced at under 1,000 yen, is exceptional. It was a delight to see that they serve Sapporo Black Label beer. I started by grilling the hormone and enjoying it as a snack with a glass of beer. The beer tasted great and paired well with the meat! I felt happy indulging in this experience during the day. Next, I grilled the meat and enjoyed it with rice, savoring each bite with a sip of beer. It was a blissful time that I wished could last forever. Although tempted to have another round of meat and beer, I decided to leave with a satisfied stomach. The desire to continue eating was strong, but I knew when to stop. The B set in a large portion and a bottle of beer cost me 1,670 yen. The B set was listed at 1,080 yen, so I assume the bottle of beer was 590 yen. For such delicious yakiniku at this price, I have no complaints. I enjoyed the meal. Thank you for the feast.

When we left, the staff gave us ice cream and were very kind. They had all-you-can-drink beer and very cheap all-you-can-eat options. Everyone was secretly ordering chu-hai through a back channel, but when we found out, they had run out and we could only order one. We drank a lot of expensive beer, which made me worry about the restaurant's finances. The food was plentiful, but I didn't really like the sauce, as there was only one kind. Still, I ate a lot.
