On Sunday at 11:15 in the afternoon, there were only three reserved seats clearly marked in the Edion 8th floor store directly connected to Hankyu Kawaramachi Station. I had a feeling it would be very crowded from 12 o'clock, as there were many reservations online. I ordered the Hitsumabushi Bamboo for 3480 yen and an extra serving of eel for 800 yen, as it seemed to be recommended online. There was also Omi beef and stone grilling to choose from, making it a difficult decision. After waiting for 5 minutes, the food arrived quickly. The eel skin was crispy, and there was a small amount of sauce (maybe because it's Hitsumabushi). While eating Hitsumabushi, I thought that the rice would make me full quickly. The extra eel had a slight fishy smell, but I was happy to find the tail included in the dish. It had a rich flavor. Thank you for the meal. The convenience was good, and I will probably come back again.

The eel was crispy and the sauce was sweet and rich. I enjoyed it in three different ways: as it is, with toppings, and as ochazuke. The dish was delicious and versatile, and I recommend Sumiyagura for anyone looking for tasty eel dishes in a relaxed setting.

Today, I was lucky to be able to shift my lunch time a bit and was able to sit down without waiting in line. I ordered the recommended lunch set for 1880 yen, with an additional grilled liver for 600 yen. The set included mini eel rice, mini Omi beef rice, today's special dish, salad, chawanmushi, soup, pickles, and a small dessert. It was a satisfying and great value lunch experience.

I visited this restaurant during my trip to Kyoto. The location is perfect for sightseeing, very easy to access. I arrived around 6:30 pm on a weekday and was able to be seated right away. I ordered the "Ume Hittsumabushi" dish. The broth was warmed up to the perfect temperature, and I could enjoy it piping hot. It was a typical Kyoto meal, and I was very satisfied. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

The eel was very delicious. We tried it three ways - plain, with condiments, and in rice porridge. All three ways were tasty, but we especially enjoyed it in the rice porridge. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also nice.

It was very delicious, but despite having a reservation, the food service felt slow. Waiting for 30 minutes was a bit too long. The staff was very kind and helpful. I think it would be good to have a few more waiters. The meat mabushi had the same taste throughout and I got a little tired of it. I would like them to offer smaller sizes of umeboshi.

The Edion store on the 8th floor of Shijo Kawaramachi had some vacant tenants, but it still had a decent amount of customers. The locals seem to appreciate it. I recommend the lunch set with a mini eel bowl and Omi beef for 1880 yen. The eel was cooked in the Kansai style. It was a mini size, but the attention to detail was evident.

I used it for lunch. I didn't know the size, but it comes in a small tea bowl. Both the eel and the meat were very delicious. It might not be enough for men. I made a reservation and there was a message on the table, and the service was very polite. I feel like I want to eat more eel.

It used to be quite crowded, but now it's relatively easy to get in. As for the eel, I ordered a single serving of eel rice bowl. It seems like the fat has been drained quite well, giving it a crispy texture, but it has lost its juiciness. It might be good for hitsumabushi, but I felt it was a bit lacking for an eel rice bowl. They have a wide variety of menu options aside from eel, such as the Omi beef stick sushi set which is quite enjoyable. I'm interested in trying the combination of grilled eel and other dishes in a set meal, so that's a candidate for my next visit.

Visited at 12:00 on a national holiday. I didn't make a reservation, so I was prepared for a crowd, but I was able to enter without waiting. I was seated at the counter as guided. Looking around the restaurant quickly, it seemed that groups of 3-4 people were seated at the table seats, while couples were seated at the counter. This time, I ordered the Hitsumabushi (pine) for 4,200 yen, which came with miso soup and pickles. It was brought to me 10 minutes after ordering. When it was brought to me, the staff explained how to eat it clearly and concisely. As instructed by the staff, I first divided it into three portions. The first portion was eaten as it is. The second portion was eaten with condiments added. The third portion was turned into ochazuke by pouring the special broth over it. I tried it in three ways, but personally, I found eating it as it is the most delicious due to the crispy texture and direct umami flavor. The ochazuke tends to dilute the sauce's flavor, so I added extra sauce before eating it. The sauce was so delicious that it was thoughtful of them to provide extra sauce at the table. By the time I left before 13:00, there were already several groups waiting in line, so I think I visited at a good time. It might be recommended to make a reservation.

After the second half of Golden Week, I went sightseeing in Kyoto. I checked into a hotel near Shijo from Kiyomizu-dera. After resting a bit, I strolled through Nishiki Market and then visited this place. This restaurant is located on the 8th floor food hall of Kyoto Kawaramachi Garden. I had made a reservation and found a lovely message waiting for me at the table (see photo). How delightful! The green hand towel is also stylish. I ordered the following: Unagi (eel) rice bowl for 3,300 yen, Hitsumabushi (grilled eel over rice) for 3,300 yen, Hitsumabushi with both eel and Omi beef for 3,200 yen, a draft beer for 650 yen, ginger ale for 300 yen, and orange juice for 300 yen. The food was served in 13 minutes. Wow! The bowls had both eel and Omi beef on top. First, I tried the Omi beef, which had a sweet and savory seasoning that went well with the rice. Next, I tasted the grilled eel. It was prepared Kansai-style, without steaming, crispy and fragrant, which I liked, but as a Kanto person, I would have preferred a bit more tenderness. Now, I mixed the Omi beef, eel, and rice in a separate bowl, poured the broth, added seaweed and condiments, and enjoyed the Hitsumabushi. Such a wonderful aroma and deliciousness! Wasabi also pairs well with Hitsumabushi. This is really good! I finished it in no time. With this quality, I could definitely enjoy a premium Hitsumabushi with both eel and Omi beef. Please consider adding it to the menu. Thank you for the meal.

I went to eat eel for the purpose of using a Go To Eat ticket. I ordered the eel set meal. The eel had no fishy smell, was nicely grilled on the surface, and easy to eat. I found the sauce to be quite strong in flavor. I thought it might be better to make the kabayaki sauce thinner to bring out the flavor of the eel more. For those who feel the sauce is not enough, it seems you can add more yourself. Since it is already quite flavorful, I didn't feel the need to add more. Considering the variety of ways you can enjoy the food at this price, I think the cost performance is good!

On the 8th floor of the building that was renamed KYOTO KAWARAMACHI GARDEN from Kyoto Marui, there is a restaurant. The atmosphere inside is bright and open, with piano jazz playing in the background. I ordered the recommended lunch set (1750 yen including tax). It came with a mini unagi rice bowl and a mini Omi beef rice bowl, both with slightly firm rice. This allows you to fully taste the flavor of each grain of rice as you chew. The separate eel sauce and sansho pepper powder are a nice touch. Despite being mini bowls, they were quite flavorful. The chawanmushi had plenty of ingredients and a good balance of flavors. It's best to eat it while it's still hot. The castella-style dessert was not overly sweet and easy to enjoy. There are three different affordable lunch sets available, so I would like to come back and try the other two sets next time.

I had always been curious about this restaurant but had never been there before. Every place had a line, and since I didn't have a reservation, I was worried I wouldn't be able to get in. So I arrived early. Even before opening, there were already a few other customers there, so it was the right decision. I ordered the Hitsumabushi (1 serving) with eel, which seemed to be portioned by the amount of eel. It was my first time trying it, so I wasn't sure if one serving would be too much, but I ordered it anyway. It had been a while since I had Hitsumabushi, but the eel was plump and had no fishy smell at all. It was delicious and I finished it quickly. I'm glad I found another favorite restaurant. They also have Unaju, so I want to try that next time.

Due to certain circumstances, I went to Kyoto. When I want to eat, I eat what I want! I love eel, especially hitsumabushi. The Kansai-style grilled eel is also good. I couldn't wait, so I ordered hitsumabushi (pine) for 4200 yen, 2 glasses of chilled (room temperature) sake, liver wasabi for 600 yen, and bone senbei for 350 yen. The appetizers were excellent. The sake went down smoothly. Hitsumabushi arrived, perfectly grilled to a crispy texture with a great eel flavor. I love wasabi, green onions, and sansho pepper. The broth is heated on a stove. It's enjoyable when it's piping hot. It may look small, but it's actually quite a generous portion. I'm full. Thank you for the delicious meal.

It was past 8 p.m. on a regular day. I visited this place while on my way to Hatsumode, and decided to stay in Kyoto for the night. I was feeling a bit hungry since I had lunch around 3 p.m., so I stopped by here. It was close to closing time, and there was only one customer before me. This place used to be where Hankyu Department Store was located. It seems like it's under renovation now. I haven't been to Kyoto in a while, so I'm not really keeping up with the changes. Anyway, I ordered the Hitsumabushi Ume (half portion) for ¥2,450. It was served in about 15 minutes. I followed the traditional way of eating Hitsumabushi, transferring the eel from the box to the bowl and eating it as is. The Kansai-style eel was really good. The crispy skin and tender meat were delicious, and the sauce was well-balanced. For the second serving, I added condiments. This is my favorite way to eat Hitsumabushi, no matter which restaurant I go to. So, how was this place? For the third serving, I poured some dashi broth over it and ate it like ochazuke. It was light and refreshing. Finally, for the fourth serving, I went back to enjoying it with just condiments. It was a delightful meal.

The old Marui building near Hankyu Kawaramachi Station is currently surrounded by white tents, giving the appearance of being under renovation. Inside, on the 8th floor food court, you can find this restaurant. On this particular day, I was in the mood for eel. After calling various restaurants in the area with no luck, I finally found this place. Looking at the menu, it seemed like they specialized in hitsumabushi-style eel. Since I'm not a big fan of hitsumabushi, I opted for the grilled eel rice box (matsu). The dish arrived after a 10-minute wait. My first impression was that it looked dark, probably due to the dim lighting. The eel pieces were small and not very thick, with a strong sauce that made it hard to appreciate the eel's flavor. This eel dish seemed more suited for hitsumabushi. The eel was sourced from Mikawa Isshiki. It had been a while since I had eel, but unfortunately, it didn't quite suit my taste. However, this is just my personal preference. There are likely fans of this particular flavor out there. In these challenging times of the pandemic, I hope this restaurant can weather through for the sake of its loyal customers.
