This is the Sevenjo Karasuma store of Kyoto Osho, located north of Kyoto Station Karasuma Exit. It is a small-scale store surprisingly close to Kyoto Station within walking distance. The first floor has counter seats, and the second floor has table seats, but I have never been upstairs. I guess the reason for choosing Osho near Kyoto Station is the limited menu available only at this store. I visited this store before for the hot pot rice dish, but recently the store-exclusive menu options have been limited, so this visit was long overdue. This time, I came for the weekday lunch limited pork bone ramen. Pork bone ramen is available at other stores for weekday lunch as well, but it is usually random and not known until the store opens on that day. I don't recall seeing it on the regular menu either. I was considering going to Ippudo or Hakata Ikkousha, but curiosity got the better of me. The pork bone ramen is part of a set menu where you can choose a side dish of fried rice, Tenshin rice, or Chinese rice. Additionally, you can choose the size of the rice from mini, regular, or large. The perfectly sized gyoza can also be added to the set menu. This time, I ordered the Chinese rice (regular) from the set menu. As of February 2023 (tax included), the set menu with Chinese rice costs 864 yen, and upgrading from mini to regular costs 217 yen. I intended to get the large rice portion with the ramen, but when I asked the staff about the portion of ramen, they said it's one serving. So, the regular size was the right choice. The Osho ramen noodles were as expected - medium-thin, semi-straight noodles that are common in many Osho ramen dishes. The pork bone soup was surprisingly good, as I had anticipated a light taste typical of commercial pork bone soup. The soup was slightly brown with a good amount of richness, more flavorful than the usual Osho level. It had a bit more fat content but was not overpowering. It didn't have a strong pork smell but still captured the essence of pork well. The toppings included char siu, green onions, and pickled ginger. The increased amount of pickled ginger was a nice touch. Unfortunately, there were no wood ear mushrooms, which are included in the Chinese rice dish. The Chinese rice was delicious and consistent as always. Lately, I have been enjoying the aroma of ginger in the sauce. This time, I will only evaluate the pork bone ramen, which exceeded my expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed the delicious pork bone ramen set.
