The long-awaited riverbed dinner in Kamogawa! The changing scenery from dusk to night was beautiful, giving off a true Kyoto vibe. The location was perfect! The 4200 yen course included seasonal side dishes in small plates, seasonal sashimi (this time it was bonito), and rice topped with shredded dried squid and sansho pepper. Additional costs for drinks were not included, so the cost performance was not the best. The atmosphere seemed more geared towards foreign tourists, with slightly higher prices. Personally, having only one traditional Japanese-style toilet made me feel the history of the place. But if you want to experience Kyoto and enjoy a riverbed dinner, why not give it a try?

Traveling and dining out should be the ultimate happiness, but I felt a little disappointed. I may have set my expectations too high for my first summer floor dinner. The staff asked if we wanted to move to a seat with a good view once we were seated, which was nice. However, after finishing the first dish, it took 30 minutes for the second dish to arrive. The male staff member was very apologetic for forgetting about us, and his demeanor was very polite and gentle. Please understand that the appetizers and conger eel tempura were delicious and reasonably priced.

I made a phone reservation for lunch and visited the restaurant. Despite the scorching heat, the cool breeze from the river made it a pleasant experience. After ordering drinks, we were served 6 side dishes, eel tempura, and rice. The lunch cost ¥2600 per person excluding drinks. The chef was handling everything alone, so it took some time for the dishes to arrive, but I didn't mind as I enjoyed the view. It was a wonderful experience and I had a great time. Thank you for the meal.

I went to a riverside restaurant for lunch. During the summer, many places do not offer riverside lunches, and it can be difficult to make a reservation. Luckily, I stumbled upon this lovely riverside lunch spot. The chef seemed to be running the place alone during lunchtime, so it took a while for the food to come out. However, it was nice to relax in the tatami room with a drink while waiting. I would love to go back at night next time. The chef was also very charming.

I made a reservation for 6:00 PM and visited the restaurant. I was the first to arrive and was seated by the river. I enjoyed a night of Japanese elegance along the Kamo River, contrasting with the Western style night in Kobe from the day before. I had a plate of three assorted appetizers, bonito sashimi, another plate of three assorted appetizers, and finished with rice. Once again, I had a luxurious evening!

As a start to my Kyoto trip, I had lunch by the riverside. Every place was packed with people, making it hard to find a place to eat. Luckily, I managed to get a spot as the last customer at a restaurant. The lunch was reasonably priced and delicious. The weather was nice, and having beer and food in the afternoon added a special touch to the experience. The Kyoto side dishes, conger eel, and shredded dried fish were all delicious. The evening might offer a different atmosphere, but I was happy to have a satisfying meal at a good price.

Today, I finished my business in Kyoto and it's the day to return to Kyoto. For lunch, I revisited this restaurant where I always try to stop by whenever I can. This time, I chose the lunch set with 6 kinds of obanzai (side dishes) and tempura. I requested to change the rice to something else (this time it was simmered komatsuna greens). The 6 kinds of obanzai included tofu, fried tofu, shishito peppers, white miso, and Kyoto eggplant, all of which were gentle on the body and delicious. The tempura included fresh bamboo shoots, sweet potatoes, and butterbur sprouts, all seasonal vegetables fried to perfection. I'm always happy to be able to enjoy delicious obanzai whenever I stop by this place.

Today, I returned to this restaurant in Pontocho in Kyoto before heading back to Tokyo. I had the lunch set with 6 types of obanzai dishes, each served with tempura. The owner is very friendly and engaging, making the dining experience even better. The obanzai dishes were all healthy and delicious, including simmered komatsuna, deep-fried shishito pepper with bonito flakes, shredded konjac with spicy cod roe, okara, firefly squid with vinegar miso, and simmered eggplant. All the dishes focused on vegetables and protein, making it a nutritious meal. Finally, I enjoyed seasonal vegetable tempura before finishing. The total price was 2,400 yen including tax, and it was so delicious that I will definitely visit again next time.

When it comes to enjoying the night atmosphere typical of Kyoto, Pontocho is the place to be. Walking along the narrow Pontocho street and admiring the crowded shops is quite enjoyable. I was taken to a place called Non-tei, known for its wide selection of sake. It seems like they also offer riverside dining during the season. The counter was full, so we were seated in a "secret" raised seating area in the back. It felt like being invited to a relative's house, haha. As a second round, we had various side dishes with sake. They brought us a few recommended bottles to try. I've never had "Delicious Kamogawa" before. The dish with Man'nenji Togarashi peppers was very Kyoto-like, but it was made with Yamaguchi prefecture eggplant. Even though I thought I was full, the vegetable-focused side dishes and sake somehow made me keep drinking. We ended with some pickles and sipped slowly. I have an early start tomorrow, so as much as I hate to, I have to call it a night here. I'd love to come back and leisurely enjoy this place during the riverside dining season.

Today is the day to return from Kyoto to Tokyo. After visiting Kinkaku-ji and Ginkaku-ji, I went to Shijo for some souvenir shopping. I visited this restaurant in Pontocho for the first time around 1:30 p.m. The lunch set included 6 kinds of obanzai (Japanese side dishes) with tempura. The owner was very friendly and engaging in conversation. I declined rice for a specific reason, and the owner kindly offered me "simmered komatsuna" as a service. The 6 obanzai dishes were all healthy, including fried tofu with vinegar miso, deep-fried green chili peppers with bonito flakes, shredded konjac with spicy cod roe, okara, tofu with sesame sauce, and simmered eggplant. They were all delicious and focused on vegetables and protein, making it a healthy meal. Especially, the fried tofu in the simmered komatsuna was delicious. When I asked the owner about fried tofu, he kindly explained a lot about Kyoto's fried tofu and recommended a shop called "Kyuzaya" in Kyoto Takashimaya. Lastly, I had oyster tempura, which is rare to find in tempura shops due to the oil getting dirty. The total price was 2,400 yen including tax. It was very delicious, so I definitely want to visit this restaurant again next time.

The food was unfortunately not worth the price. The view is very nice. The course included appetizers, bonito sashimi, 3 types of obanzai, conger eel tempura, and rice with dried young sardines and sansho pepper, all for 4,500 yen. The appetizers, sashimi, and obanzai were all at the level you would expect from a regular diner. The conger eel tempura was delicious as it was freshly fried. There was no dessert or tea after the meal. Although the view was great, if I wanted to enjoy dining by the riverside, I might try a different restaurant next time.

In the past, I used to dream of going to a cool floor, thinking it was something I couldn't easily experience. About ten years later, after finishing our first round at an izakaya in Gion, we happened to stop by and were welcomed at Non-Tei. We enjoyed a luxurious time without any pretense, which I will never forget. It was late September, towards the end of the floor season. It was a bit chilly, so we had Kyoto-style hot tofu and assorted tempura, as well as a few dishes from the counter. The taste was delicious, but what really captivated me was the atmosphere. I plan to visit again this year, after about 10 years, so please wait a little longer.

I went on a day trip to Kyoto and visited Shimogamo Shrine and the Kizuna no Mori no Hikari no Matsuri, a World Heritage site. After that, we headed to Pontocho for a meal. We found a restaurant on Pontocho Street where we had to ask for permission to enter at the entrance. We visited around 9 pm with 2 people and sat at the counter, ordering Oolong tea. We ordered the Obanzai set with tempura for 4860 yen. The set included three Obanzai dishes (kinpira, ito konnyaku with mentaiko, and Chinese-style sweet and sour eggplant), bonito tataki, three more Obanzai dishes (scallop and cucumber with vinegar miso, mizuna, and udo flower), tempura of pike conger eel, and rice with dried baby sardines and real sansho pepper. Personally, I'm not a big fan of sansho pepper, but it was used in the rice, Obanzai dishes, and even sprinkled on the tempura with matcha salt. It was a full-on sansho pepper experience. It seems that the Kamogawa Cool Bed will be set up until the end of September. Thank you for the delicious meal! ❤︎ ( ⁎ᵕᴗᵕ⁎ ) ===========

It's September but still hot on a Sunday. I thought I might find some relief at a restaurant in Pontocho, but everywhere was fully booked. I ended up just going into any place that had an open table. The staff seemed a bit busy and were a bit rude. I decided to sit outside and ordered an Ebisu beer to quench my dry throat. However, it tasted strange, probably because they haven't cleaned the tap properly. The food was only available in set courses, and it was mediocre. It's disappointing, but maybe this is just how things are at restaurants these days.

During the summer season, they hold a riverside dining event, but a la carte orders are not available. I went there specifically for the side dishes, so that was a bit disappointing. However, the prices were not too high, the quality of the food was as expected, and the portion size was just right and delicious.
