I had plans in Kyoto, so I went to Karahi Curry. I had seen it in other reviews but missed the sign and walked past it at first. The menu only has chicken curry (with extra large serving for +150 yen). This time, I ordered it with chai set. They cook each cup separately, so it takes a bit of time, but the result was worth the wait. The curry was special - not too spicy, well-balanced, with a hint of spices. I was very satisfied, and from now on, I won't be able to resist getting the extra large serving.

A few minutes' walk from Kawaramachi Station in Kyoto. I stopped by here today. The interior of the restaurant is on the second floor of a building. There is a sign on the building, but it's easy to miss if you're a first-time visitor. The restaurant only has counter seats with a capacity for a few people. The menu consists of chicken curry, chai, and beer only. I ordered the chicken curry. Let's dig in! The curry has a nice level of spiciness, similar to level 1 at a popular curry chain. It goes well with the slightly firm rice. Personally, I quite like the taste, but be careful with pacing as there's slightly less curry compared to the rice. Overall, it was a satisfying meal! The restaurant offers affordable prices even in the evening. It's a hidden gem curry spot in a very inconspicuous location.

I parked my bike at Good Nature Station underground and was the first customer after 12 o'clock on my way from Takashimaya to Fuji Daimaru. The chicken curry had big chunks of potatoes and was mildly spicy as I ate more. I quite liked it. It's conveniently located, so I might use it again. Next time, I might try the large serving.

Chicken Curry (850 yen) This curry restaurant serves only chicken curry, a simple and straightforward menu choice. It seems that the owner has put a lot of effort into perfecting this dish. After placing an order, the owner takes their time to prepare the curry. It doesn't come out quickly since there is only one option on the menu. The curry is served in a large dish with chicken, potatoes, and cabbage marinated together. The portion size is small. There are no bold claims about how delicious their chicken curry is, but as you eat, you can gradually start to taste the spices that were carefully added. It's a simple curry that may surprise you with its depth of flavor. Before you know it, you've finished your meal and left the restaurant. I think I'll probably come back again. The restaurant is a bit hard to find, located at the back of the second floor.

Lunchtime. I was the only customer for some reason. Maybe because it's a weekday? Or because the building is hard to find on the 2nd floor? Anyway, the staff should be a bit more friendly. They seemed a bit scary. They took my order politely, but it took too long to prepare. Were they trying to reduce the liquid content? They could have done that at the preparation stage. The curry flavor itself wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough for me to want seconds. It lacked spices. And there was too little curry sauce. It felt like I was just eating curry-flavored rice. The chicken and potatoes on the side were confusing - were they side dishes or part of the curry? If they were side dishes, they should have been cooked with more spices. If they were curry ingredients, they should have been mixed in. Overall, I won't be coming back. I don't understand why this place has such high ratings. Sorry for being honest.

I visited around 19:30 on a regular day. It was a bit dark, and the staircase to the second floor made me a little nervous. There were no other customers. I tried the Chicken Curry for 800 yen. I heard that the curry was not very thick, but it was actually rich and had a good balance with the rice. However, when I tried it with pickles, I felt like a little more curry would have been better. The two potatoes served with it were very delicious. They were like amazing potato wedges.

First bite, average. As I continued eating, I occasionally felt some uniqueness and flavor, but overall, it was just average. I ordered the Chicken Curry Large and Chai set for ¥1150 including tax. I won't be visiting again. The interior of the restaurant was nice. As mentioned in other reviews, there was not enough curry sauce. I finished all the pickles and still felt like I needed more sauce. Oh well. I don't know how many cups of chai I've had in India, but even on a hot day, it's always hot. I've never seen iced chai. Even in Japan, if it's iced, it's clearly labeled as such, or they ask you. I came to enjoy a hot chai, but why do I have to drink something so cold on a chilly night? My body is freezing now. It was a terrible experience.

On this day, I arrived early in Kawaramachi to get a ticket for the specialty chestnut shop Saori that I was looking forward to. I was able to get the ticket before picking up my daughter, so I decided to wander around Kawaramachi while shopping. I was thinking about what to have for lunch when I stumbled upon this curry restaurant! It is located on the second floor up the stairs at the back of an old building. I have high expectations for this hidden gem curry restaurant! However, when I noticed the sign, I saw a note saying that the opening would be delayed by about 30 minutes on that day... It's common for this type of curry restaurant. I did a little more shopping before returning here. The timing was perfect, and the restaurant was open with no other customers. The restaurant is really small with only a counter. There is a hanger to hang coats in the back. The small shop is filled with a nice aroma of spices! The curry is only chicken curry, so there is no need to hesitate. Both my husband and I ordered the Chicken Curry & Chai Set for 1000 yen. After ordering, they finish the curry, and the aroma gets even better! The "Chicken Curry" has a simple appearance with a curry that is close to keema style and a small amount of roux. Chicken and other toppings are placed around it. Pickles are unlimited. The appearance is ordinary, but the curry has various spices and a deep flavor. It's not too spicy, but it's flavorful with a good amount of spices. It's delicious. It's not deviating from the classic curry, but it also has its own originality. The chai comes out in ice. It's nice to have ice chai to cool your mouth after eating the hot curry. I finally had the opportunity to explore curry restaurants in Kyoto that I haven't been able to visit!

The restaurant had a quiet and cozy atmosphere, with the owner focused on making the curry from scratch. The curry had a smooth and mild taste, with just the right amount of satisfaction. The owner's hospitality was welcoming, and despite feeling a bit embarrassed, I expressed my appreciation for the excellent service. If I ever visit again and find myself as the only customer, I might even try playing the guitar hanging on the wall!

Chicken curry showdown on May 17, 2019. If you're not a light eater, the regular portion might not fill you up, haha. The rice is served in a round shape and topped with a light and watery curry that seeps into the rice, which is delightful. I thought it would be super spicy, but it's not that hot!

A spice curry made by a master craftsman. I wanted to visit this shop once. The shop is hard to find. The map and the actual location of the shop are quite different. The shop has only a counter with 7 seats in an L-shape. After seating, I ordered the chicken curry in large size. It took quite some time due to careful preparation... about 15 minutes of waiting until it was served. The presentation is beautiful - the potatoes and chicken are evenly placed. The curry is a bit spicy, with a hint of sweetness at first but then the spiciness lingers in the mouth. I used the cabbage pickles to cleanse my palate and added more spiciness with the chili pepper on the table. By the end of the meal, sweat was dripping from under my chin. It was delicious. If I were to make a suggestion, I would like a bit more curry sauce. There wasn't enough of the deep-flavored sauce! Thank you for the meal!

Friday 20:10, to Karahikare-san I finally went to this place that I had always been curious about. It is located on the 2nd floor of a building. The small restaurant has 7 counter seats. As I opened the door and entered, there were no other customers. A man with a beard greeted me from inside the counter, saying "Welcome". He told me to choose any seat, so I sat at a table towards the back. The menu was posted on the wall to the right as you enter the door. Chicken Curry 800 yen Large size +150 yen Chai 400 yen Beer 550 yen It seems like ordering the Chicken Curry and Chai as a set would be a good deal at 1,000 yen. So, I decided to order the set. There were many bottles of spices lined up on the wall. It seems like they make the dishes after receiving orders. Gradually, a nice aroma filled the air. 20:25, the curry arrived. The plate it was served on was large, so the volume of the curry itself seemed a bit lacking and left me slightly disappointed. The ingredients used were onions, potatoes, chicken breast, and green peppers. The visible spices on the surface were mainly mustard seeds, and the spiciness was a bit tangy. It wasn't spicy for me at all. I ate while enjoying the aroma and also had the cabbage pickles that were served. The set chai was served later and it was iced chai. Maybe it's because it's April, so it could be seasonal. It took me 15 minutes to wait for the curry, but I finished eating it in about 5 minutes. I couldn't help but worry if the normal size would be enough for men. Maybe the large size is the best for me... I also thought that my son would easily eat two bowls even if it was a large size. After serving the curry and chai, the owner immediately started washing the frying pan vigorously. The cleaned frying pan was hung on the wall. Each person must reset and work like this, I suppose. The owner, who seemed like a quiet craftsman, had minimal interaction with me, so I left the money and left the restaurant. Hmm, the curry felt less in quantity and the taste didn't feel particularly special. The service was also nothing noteworthy, so personally, I felt like everything was just average. There's another place nearby called Karakusakare-san (haven't visited yet), so I think I'll try going there next time. Thank you for the meal.

I went to Karahi Curry in Shijo Kawaramachi and had the chicken curry. I had gone to Kyoto from Kudoyama that day to see a group exhibition by acquaintances at a long-established gallery in Shijo Kawaramachi. As always, the avant-garde works of everyone were quite beyond the understanding of an amateur like me, but as a fellow artist, albeit a very minor one, I clumsily expressed my impressions and thanked them for showing me good works. There are indeed many good works that I think are wonderful. I just can't explain them. But before that, I needed to fill my stomach. I relied on Shijo Teramachi to go down and found Karahi. The shop had a chic café feel, and maybe because of its inconspicuous location, there weren't many customers. Looking at the menu, they only had chicken curry, which was quite straightforward. I ordered it with chai. The rice portion was small. The curry was made in advance, but the chicken was carefully cooked over time. They added spices and took their time to finish it. It was a dish with considerable attention to detail. Now, the dish arrived. It was very tender, gentle, and had a full-bodied flavor. The spice level was very good. The pilaf side dish was also delicious. It was just chicken curry, but it was more than just chicken curry. I kept eating more and more. Chai was served after the meal. I had a heartfelt curry. Thank you for the meal. First time visiting "Karahi Curry" restaurant. The access is about a 5-minute walk from Hankyu Kawaramachi Station, just east of Fuji Daimaru. It's located on the second floor of a not-so-prominent building, but once you enter, you'll find a stylish interior with a cozy counter. The menu offers only "Chicken Curry." I ordered the 1,000 yen set with chai. The curry had a pleasant spiciness with a sweet taste from the potatoes and chicken, and it was incredibly delicious. Additionally, there was only one staff member (possibly the owner?), who resembled a curry artisan, meticulously preparing each dish. Thank you for the meal. I definitely want to visit again.

Upon entering the store, French girl is playing, which immediately lifts your spirits. At the same time, the spicy scent of "karahi" stimulates your nostrils. The interior of the store is small, with a counter seating for 7 people. The master craftsman behind the counter will prepare your meal. While waiting, I often read books from the store's bookshelf, which is filled with a great selection. The curry is made with carefully sautéed onions and a complex mix of various spices that make it irresistible. The "karahi" lives up to its name with a strong peppery flavor that doesn't overpower the dish, but instead adds depth to the taste. The pickles served on the side have a gentle acidity that complements the curry well. The potatoes inside are not just fried, but cooked to perfection, adding freshness and flavor to the dish. The masala chai served with the set is not too sweet and pairs perfectly with the curry.

The blog post is here... http://harapekooyaji.blog104.fc2.com/blog-entry-2240.html Karahi Curry Chicken Curry Large Serving 2020/09/27 I visited the cafe Madragu Fujii Daimaru store earlier and then proceeded to visit Karahi Curry located in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto. The small restaurant is known for its minimalistic portions, almost like a children's curry. Despite the small portions, there was something intriguing about it that caught my attention. Upon entering the restaurant located on the second floor, I placed an order for the Chicken Curry in a large serving. The owner was busy in the kitchen preparing the curry, and it took quite some time for the order to be ready. The spice curry seemed to require a lengthy cooking process, which made the waiting time even longer. After a 30-minute wait, the Chicken Curry in a large serving was finally served. Despite the small portion size, the dish looked appetizing. The curry had a minimal amount of sauce, but the chicken pieces were plentiful. It was surprising to find chunks of potatoes mixed in with the chicken, which added a nice touch to the dish. Overall, despite the small portion size, the Chicken Curry at Karahi Curry was flavorful and satisfying. The unique addition of potatoes to the dish made it a delightful surprise.

I think there were no customers who entered after 2 PM, the restaurant has about 8 seats at the counter and the atmosphere is nice. The curry is only chicken curry and it is very delicious, the chicken in it is also tasty. I would like to go again if I have the chance.
