When I go to Kyoto Rome Theater or art museums, I always remember and stop by this place. It's a curry udon from a typical udon restaurant, and it's just the best. It's simply delicious. When you order a set, it comes with a mini egg bowl, and after taking a bite, I mix the udon with the curry broth left over. It's really special.

Unexpectedly opened at 11:30. I tried the off-menu item, which was labeled as "soba" but was more like Chinese noodles with curry ramen. The noodles were delicious, and I got a set with a rice bowl topped with egg for 950 yen. Cash only, it had an old-fashioned udon shop vibe. Thank you for the meal!

It's steamy hot in June during the rainy season, and I had some errands around Sanjo area. It was lunchtime and I didn't have much time, so I thought about having some soba noodles quickly. The place was crowded, so I didn't have time for hot curry udon. I ended up ordering a zaru soba and small rice bowl set. However, I had to wait for about 20 minutes. Maybe it was the second batch? The person who came in after me was disappointed as they ran out of soba noodles. The rice bowl was too much even though I asked for half. It was like a large portion. The portion of soba noodles was also big, and the bowl of dipping sauce was huge. Well, it was easy to eat, which was good. I ate quickly while keeping an eye on the time. The soba noodles were delicious, but I prefer the egg on the rice bowl to be more runny. The egg was a bit firm.

Located near the Sanjo Keihan Station, there is a udon/soba restaurant called "三条" (Sanjo). Known for its popular curry udon, I decided to try the meat curry udon priced at 750 yen. I also added a mini tamago don (rice bowl with egg) for an extra 200 yen. The atmosphere of the restaurant was calm, with friendly older staff. The restaurant had a good number of seats, making it convenient for solo diners, especially women. The curry udon had a Kyoto-style flavor, with soft noodles and a slightly powdery yet gentle curry broth. The tamago don was also delicious, with a fluffy and flavorful taste. The restaurant had a nostalgic Showa-era vibe, with a TV playing news in the corner. The nearby Kamo River added to the local Kyoto feel. It was a pleasant and heartwarming dining experience. I look forward to returning to try the pumpkin curry next time. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I decided to sit down and have a light meal, and when I looked at the menu board, I found a hidden menu: curry soba. It's not curry udon, but curry soba with homemade noodles. I love dishes like this, so I decided to try it. I ordered the "Gizami Curry Soba," which has thinly sliced fried tofu in it. The curry flavor goes really well with the thin noodles. It's so delicious! It's served piping hot, so I eat it slowly to avoid burning my mouth. The portion is quite large, so I'm glad I didn't order the set with a rice bowl. Some people even order extra green onions. I might try that next time.

"Miyako" is a long-established udon restaurant near Keihan Sanjo Station in Kyoto. Established in 1940, this popular udon restaurant is known for its curry udon. Upon entering the restaurant, you will find tables that evoke a sense of the Showa era. While the menu offers various udon and rice bowl dishes, the most popular choice is the curry udon set. The majority of customers visiting for lunch order this dish. Kyoto's curry udon is undeniably delicious. [Miyako's Curry Udon] *Comments are noted in the photo. ◆Curry Udon Set ◎Comes with a mini egg bowl and pickles. ◉On cold, rainy days in Kyoto, you will crave either ankake udon or curry udon. Miyako's curry udon is piping hot and has a thick consistency. The Kyoto-style broth brings out the flavor of the curry beautifully, with a mild spiciness but deep flavor. The egg bowl was delicious with its gentle and flavorful broth. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant for lunch on Monday, March 27, 2023. Unfortunately, I had to wait outside with 2 others for about 10 minutes. I ordered the meat curry udon. The smell outside the restaurant was amazing, which drew me in. It seemed like they were making the dishes in order, so I had to wait a bit longer. It was lunchtime and cherry blossoms were in full bloom, so I didn't mind the wait. The meat curry udon had a lot of meat in it, which I thought was fantastic. The udon noodles were thin and not too spicy. I can see why this place is popular with tourists.

Today, I had some free time before my work in Higashiyama, so I got off at Keihan Sanjo Station and decided to try Miyako, a restaurant that I had been curious about for a while. The atmosphere was elegant and welcoming, and the curry udon smelled amazing as soon as I walked in. I decided to go with the curry udon, which is a popular choice here. For an extra 200 yen, I also got a mini egg bowl. The curry udon had soft noodles and a rich broth, with a mild level of spiciness. It was perfect for warming up on a cold day. The mini egg bowl was light and satisfying, a perfect example of a casual dining experience. I hope that these kinds of restaurants continue to thrive. Curry udon for ¥750. Unfortunately, no tissues or wet towels provided, and cash only. The noodles are thin and have a chewy texture. It's like the soft part of Sanuki udon has been removed, allowing you to fully enjoy the chewiness. Since it's warm, you can expect even better quality with the cold version. Among thin noodles, this is the best I've had. The soup is quite spicy with a thick consistency. It's spicy and dry, but also has a gentle dashi flavor. The curry has some powdery residue, but it adds a nice rhythm to the dish. Noteworthy is that it remains piping hot until the end. The toppings include green onions and meat. The green onions are crunchy, and there's a generous amount of meat. For this price with this portion size, it's quite good.

On a regular day, I visited a curry udon restaurant called "1140" without making a reservation. I ordered the curry udon (¥750), extra green onions (¥110), and a set of egg rice bowl (¥200). I tried to make a morning reservation at Yamamoto, but couldn't get through on the phone. Nonetheless, I was already in curry udon mode, so I decided to look for another place that seemed to serve delicious curry udon. The prices have gone up starting this month, but I still think they are reasonable. Especially the set of egg rice bowl for ¥200 is a good deal compared to a small bowl of rice for ¥190. The curry udon had a Kyoto-style broth with a bit more flavor would have been better, but it was still delicious. The extra green onions topping matched well with the curry broth. The udon noodles were thin, but I feel like thicker noodles would have been a better match for curry udon. There were mostly local regular customers rather than tourists, and there was no line, making it a good place for locals to enjoy a quick meal.

Miyako, a long-established noodle shop near Sanjo Keihan. This day, I had the afternoon off from work, so I decided to have a quick lunch near my workplace. I went to Miyako, a long-standing noodle shop right by Sanjo Keihan. This place has been around since I was a kid, and I've always had the impression that it's an "old shop". I'm not sure how many years they've been in business, but it's definitely a well-established place. I ordered the curry udon with a side of egg bowl. The curry udon had a thick curry sauce with a strong dashi flavor and a spicy kick that hits you later. The sweetness of the pumpkin also complemented the curry well. I added pumpkin and meat toppings to make it more satisfying. The egg bowl, although a bit small, was still very fulfilling. I left the restaurant feeling full and satisfied. Thank you for the meal! I always crave the zaru soba when I come here. It looks delicious. I also contemplated ordering the katsu don. Why do katsu bowls at soba shops always look so appetizing?

During my visit in April 2022, I checked out of my accommodation and before heading to Gion, my friend and I decided to have lunch at this local udon restaurant nearby. It seemed like a place that has been rooted in the community for a while. The specialty appeared to be curry udon, as indicated outside the shop. There were two customers when we arrived, mostly seniors, but towards the end, a group of three young ladies also came in. We both ordered the negi (green onion) curry udon from the menu, which had various toppings available. The dish arrived after a short wait, and I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed when I saw it. When you think of green onions in Kyoto, you expect the Kujonegi, which is thinly sliced and scattered generously on top. Although the menu mentioned Kujonegi as a topping, it was unclear if that was what we got. The curry had a thick consistency, not just poured over the noodles, and the flavor was not too strong but quite spicy, with a lingering delicious taste. The noodles were soft, making it easy to slurp up if it wasn't for the curry. Surprisingly, we were the only ones who ordered curry, despite the restaurant's emphasis on it. I wish I had tried the Kyoto-style dish with a thicker sauce or the one with a full broth. Nevertheless, I still wanted those green onions on top of my curry!

#Curry Udon #Fluffy Tamadon March 2022 Hello everyone! Today, after many years, I came to Kyoto's Sanjo area. Before taking care of some errands, I decided to first satisfy my hunger. Curry udon and donburi are so delicious here. This restaurant... I started with the Tamadon first before the curry. It was delicious! Fluffy and with a taste of Kyoto's unique broth. The spicy curry udon had a rich broth and the topping was soft and the thin udon noodles were smooth and very tasty. "I could drink this broth all day!" After taking care of my errands, why not take a stroll through this nostalgic city? It was delicious. Thank you for the meal! ❤️

Near the Keihan Sanjo Station in Kyoto, there is a udon restaurant called "Miyako". While not as established as the famous Shinodaya nearby, this place has a lot of history. They offer various types of udon and rice bowl dishes, but their most popular item is the curry udon. Most customers were ordering it. The curry udon was impressive, with a thick and piping hot broth. The curry flavor was well pronounced, with a mild level of spiciness. It had a richer taste compared to the traditional Kyoto-style curry. The set also came with a mini egg bowl, which had a gentle and delicious flavor. Thank you for the meal.

I couldn't bear the cold and came here. It was really crowded, maybe because it was just after the New Year. They had run out of udon for people who came after me. I ordered a set of green onion curry udon and egg bowl. The egg bowl was really good. The wait for the green onion curry udon was too long, but they gave me some fried tofu as a service!

I wandered around Sanjo Keihan looking for somewhere to have lunch and ended up at this restaurant. Upon entering, I felt a Showa era vibe. The restaurant seems to specialize in curry udon, but I opted for the Torinamba, which was light and flavorful. The broth was gentle and made me want to drink more. The udon was not the thick, chewy Sanuki style, but rather had a gentle texture that was easy to eat. It was a comforting lunch experience.

I avoided the lunch rush and had a slightly late lunch. I couldn't decide what to eat, but ended up choosing curry udon! It took a bit of time, but it finally arrived and looked delicious. However, it felt like something was missing. The set meal had a gentle flavor which was good for my body. Thank you for the meal!

I arrived around 2:30 PM on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. It was my first time here. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and clean. I ordered the curry udon set, which came with a bowl of egg over rice. The curry udon was incredibly delicious and outstanding. The pickled vegetables, especially the thick-cut cucumber, were amazingly tasty. The egg over rice was also delicious. The softness of the udon noodles and the perfect level of spiciness of the curry warmed my body and soul. It was a delightful meal. I will definitely come back. I express my gratitude to all the ingredients in this world. Delicious food is calling me. The more I eat, the more power I feel overflowing.

I visited Miyafuru-san while exploring the area around Sanjo Kawabata! It is a truly old-fashioned eatery that serves udon, soba, and rice bowls at very reasonable prices! Even in these times of corona, the restaurant was bustling with regular customers and locals. I ordered the beef curry udon for 700 yen. The curry flavor was delicious, with a blend of various spices besides curry powder! The taste of the beef and broth was also prominent. The noodles were soft and easy to eat, breaking easily when picked up with chopsticks. This added to the depth of flavor and was enjoyable. The meal was affordable and satisfying. Thank you for the delicious meal!

A nearby teishoku restaurant located near Sanjo Keihan Station and Karasuma Oike Station. I decided to stop by after wandering around Shinkyomonzen Street and Furumonzen Street, as I was in the area. It has been quite a while since my last visit, I can't even remember when it was. The restaurant has a rating of 3.41 on Tabelog (as of March 15, 2020), which is not the best, but I personally remember it being not bad. Sometimes there is a discrepancy between Tabelog ratings and personal evaluations, which is common. If I were to mention such a restaurant in Kyoto, it would be places like Yamamoto Menzo (Hyakumeiten), Nakahigashi (Tabelog Gold), and Sanboku (Tabelog Gold). There is also Menzukuri-san, who proudly displays their hand-made noodles sign, Nakato-san who attended the Tabelog Awards not long after opening, and Sanboku-san who even cooks items other than meat, all of which I'm glad I didn't rate too highly. Now, at this restaurant, I ordered the Meat Curry Udon (700 yen) with added Kujo green onions (110 yen) and minced ginger (110 yen) as toppings. The udon noodles were thin and soft, which may be considered Kyoto-like, but the noodles themselves were just okay. With the help of the ginger, the dish was quite spicy. There were some shortcomings like no wet towels, but considering the location, the price is reasonable. It may not be a memorable dish, but it's worth a try if you're tired of your regular spot or want to try something new. Personally, I have a better impression of this place compared to the famous Okaru in Gion. Although, I only visited Okaru once a long time ago.
