I visited "Thai Cuisine Gapao" located north of Nijo Station for lunch. The restaurant is known for its delicious food, and I was tempted by the Green Curry and Curry Ramen, but this time I ordered the "Gapao Rice" which is also in the restaurant's name. The lunch set came with chicken tempura, smoked duck, fresh spring rolls, soup, and oolong tea. Although soup was included, I also added a small Tom Yum soup. The Gapao Rice that arrived had a generous portion of rice and the meat was larger compared to other Gapao Rice dishes. I was pleased to see a soft-boiled egg on top. I mixed the rice with the Gapao and enjoyed the flavorful taste. At first, I thought there was not enough Gapao, but the rich seasoning made it satisfying. Adding fish sauce midway through also provided a nice change in flavor. The Tom Yum soup was spicy but smooth and delicious. I think I will definitely order it again for 250 yen. The food was tasty, and although the staff mainly spoke Thai except for basic interactions, they were friendly and made dining at the restaurant a pleasant experience.

The staff are all (probably) Thai and you can feel a foreign atmosphere as they speak Thai except when they are serving customers. The green curry is moderately spicy and rich, but not overly heavy in flavor, making it delicious when paired with jasmine rice. The lunch set may feel slightly more expensive compared to regular Thai dishes, but it includes 4 appetizers and a drink, making it feel like a small course meal and overall satisfying. The small restaurant can get a bit crowded during lunchtime, but the relaxed atmosphere allows for a leisurely dining experience. I would like to visit again next time to try the Gai Pad Krapow.

Today's lunch was "Thai cuisine Gapao" at a Thai restaurant located at the intersection of Senbon-kyu Nijo in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto. The entrance is set back and not very noticeable, but there is an OPEN sign hanging. Inside the restaurant, there are tables lined up. They offer lunch set menus as well as a variety of a la carte options. It's a great place to learn about Thai cuisine. I ordered the "SET D Kaomangai" for 1150 yen, named after the restaurant. The table setting is in Thai style, with aluminum cups for cold water and a box with elephant relief containing chopsticks and spoons. The chopsticks are thick and cylindrical, giving a unique touch. I was shocked to see a notice on the wall that prices had increased starting today. Soon, the food was brought to the table. The side dishes included fresh spring rolls with thin, chewy skins, hot and crispy fried chicken, and a cabbage salad with ham. The soup was light but flavorful. The main dish, Kaomangai, was different from what I had imagined, with sliced chicken and rice in a cylindrical shape topped with a fried egg. The meat and vegetables were well-seasoned, creating an ethnic dish when mixed with the rice. I finished off with an iced coffee to cool down. This restaurant offers a convenient way to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine.

I came to a Thai restaurant near my hotel for dinner during my trip to Kyoto. The staff were all locals from Thailand, and although they seemed inexperienced, they were friendly and welcoming. I tried the Yum Woon Sen and the recommended Thai Biryani. The yellow rice in the Biryani seemed to be a mix of Japanese rice and possibly jasmine rice, but the distinct fragrance of jasmine rice was not very noticeable. For those who like that fragrance, it may be disappointing, but for those who don't, it could be a lucky break. The chicken served with the Ga Pao, which is the restaurant's specialty, was absolutely delicious. Overall, it was a delightful Thai dining experience.

On December 29, 2022, I was quite shocked to find that the restaurant I visited at the end of the year was almost entirely filled with Thai people, and everything, including the language, felt like being in a Thai eatery. I ordered Khao Soi, which is essentially curry ramen. I had to wait for about 10 minutes for it to be served, which was longer than expected. The mild coconut curry flavor was delicious. The texture of the fried noodles on top was excellent, and mixing it all together is recommended. It's not particularly spicy, so it should be easy for Japanese people to enjoy. I think I'd like to come back for lunch on a weekday next time.

The atmosphere between the staff is lively with Thai language being spoken, creating a friendly vibe. They warmly welcomed me and asked if the food was delicious when I was leaving. I usually like Pad Thai, but this time I chose a soup dish due to the cold weather outside. I had Kuay Teow, which is similar to Vietnamese cuisine with rice noodles in chicken broth. It was topped with plenty of coriander, giving it that authentic Thai taste. It was delicious on its own, but adding fish sauce or vinegar halfway through enhanced the flavor even more.

I ordered the lunch set of Gapao Rice. For 1,050 yen, I got a generous serving of Gapao Rice with a mild-flavored soup with radish, a piece of fried chicken, a fresh spring roll, a mini salad with smoked duck, and a drink, which was very cost-effective. I added an extra 200 yen for a mini Tom Yum Kung. The Gapao Rice had a slight spicy kick but also a sweet miso-like flavor, which was delicious. The Tom Yum Kung had a strong coconut milk flavor with the characteristic tanginess of Tom Yum Kung, creating a perfect sweet and sour taste. I've tried Gapao Rice and Tom Yum Kung at about three Thai restaurants before, but I felt that this place had the most moderate level of spiciness. The restaurant can only accommodate about six groups, but the Thai staff were friendly, and I was satisfied with the taste, cost-performance, and portion size, so I will definitely come back. Next time, I might try the Green Curry or Tom Yum Spaghetti.

When I opened the door of the restaurant, I was greeted with a cheerful "Sawadii ka!" in a bright interior. During lunchtime, I ordered the Gapao lunch and my companion ordered the Khun Phat Pong curry lunch, along with an additional order of Som Tam salad and sticky rice with mango. The menu was written in Japanese, Thai, and English, so it was easy to choose. The dishes prepared by the experienced Thai chef were all delicious and satisfying. The waitress was able to speak Japanese, so we had no trouble ordering. She even asked us how spicy we wanted our dishes, offering to add one, two, or three chili peppers. The chef was also friendly and cheerful, making it a place I would like to visit again without hesitation.

The flavor was one of the best Thai dishes I have ever had, with a good amount of spices. There were plenty of vegetables, and the meat was also delicious without any unpleasant taste. The restaurant is open late, which is great. I will definitely visit again.

The Pad Thai lunch was 1045 yen, and the additional small Tom Yum Goong was 220 yen, totaling 1265 yen. Both dishes were delicious. The rice that came with the set was not very good, but the Tom Yum Goong was excellent.
