On March 12, 2018 (Monday) at 12:45 PM, during work, I went to a restaurant called "Sushi Noodle Shop Marubi" near Kintetsu Mukojima Station based on information from MyRebi. It was my first visit to this place. The exterior of the restaurant had a local, traditional feel. Upon entering, there were counter seats on the left and raised tatami seating on the right. There were two customers already seated, both at the counter. The restaurant was run by what seemed to be an elderly couple, the owner and his wife. I chose the "Nigiri Set Meal for 880 yen (tax included)" from the lunch menu board near the entrance as soon as I sat down. I also ordered udon noodles. Tea, soy sauce, and a side dish (daikon radish, fish cake) were served first. About 10 minutes after ordering, the sushi arrived. It included tuna, squid, sea bream, grilled eel, tamagoyaki, and pickled radish roll. The sushi rice was tightly packed, slightly larger than usual, with a mild vinegar and sugar seasoning. The raw tuna, squid, and sea bream were particularly delicious. The grilled eel had a nice smoky flavor and was tasty. The tamagoyaki was a bit dry. The pickled radish roll was average. The pickled ginger was quite sweet. As I enjoyed the sushi, the udon noodles arrived after about 13 minutes. The broth had a good aroma and flavor, but the texture of the noodles surprised me. They were smooth on the surface, chewy with a wheat fragrance when bitten. It seemed like they might have been boiled after receiving the order, rather than being pre-cooked or frozen. The deep udon bowl seemed small at first glance but had a substantial amount of noodles, making me quite full. Just when I thought I was almost done, coffee was served. It was espresso, which was unexpected given the appearance and atmosphere of the restaurant. The coffee exceeded my expectations in terms of taste. The total cost of 860 yen (tax included) left me very satisfied. Overall, it was a pleasant surprise and a great dining experience. Thank you very much.
