In the lively district of Ichijoji in Kyoto, there is a long-standing restaurant called "Udon-ya". Despite the hot weather in September, their curry udon is highly recommended. I tried the limited edition "Revival Curry Udon" with meat and fried tofu. The curry had a nostalgic Japanese flavor with a hint of sweetness and spiciness. I chose the thick udon noodles, which were soft and lacked firmness. Overall, the presentation, freshness, flavor, and service were all rated around 3 out of 5.

If a restaurant is famous for its udon, it must carry on the taste of Shimizu. That's exactly the case here. When you come here, you can't leave without trying the curry udon. I always have a hard time deciding, but in the end, I always go for the curry udon. I usually go for the curry udon with chicken in it, but my partner likes the curry udon with beef and egg on top. The soup, which is rich in flavor, has a spicy kick, but I always finish it to the last drop. The udon is soft and the curry coats it well, creating a simple everyday flavor. It's too delicious.

Udon Wada I had the Curry Tori Toji Udon (¥850) Located in the competitive ramen district of Ichijoji, Udon Wada is a shop that serves not only ramen but also delicious udon. Sometimes you just crave udon, right? Here, they offer a variety of curry udon options, including seasonal limited-time offerings, totaling around 15 types or more. My personal recommendation is the Curry Tori Toji Udon! For just ¥850, you can enjoy a hearty bowl of udon. And the best part is, you can get up to 2 extra servings of noodles for free, which is amazing. Definitely check it out! Address: 15-2 Ichijoji Nishisuginomi-cho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto, Kyoto Nearest Station: Ichijoji Station Business Hours: Weekdays: 11:00-15:00, 17:00-22:00 Weekends: 11:00-22:00 Budget: Lunch: Up to ¥999 Dinner: Up to ¥999 Shop's Account: @udon.wada Thank you for reading until the end! This area is known as Ramen Street, but I decided to go for udon instead. This shop is famous for its curry udon, but I wasn't in the mood for curry so I got kitsune udon. Hmm, it's a bit different from the kitsune udon you would eat in Osaka, but it's not bad. I also ordered mino tempura and liver tempura, and they were delicious! I wanted to eat more, but I was already full so maybe next time. My husband and his friends ordered the most popular dish, the meat kitsune curry udon. It seems like ordering curry beef kitsune udon with a side of rice is the way to go. I had a taste and it was delicious!

I arrived at this place near the minor Ichijoji Station in search of delicious curry udon. I didn't need a reservation, as there were only 2 customers when I arrived at 11:00. They didn't have beer or light snacks. I asked about the difference between the regular curry udon and the reissued version, and was told that the broth is the same but the curry powder is different. The reissued version has a slightly stronger spiciness after eating. You can choose between thin noodles and thick noodles. I chose the regular curry udon with thin noodles, while my husband chose the reissued version with thin noodles as well. It was delicious, with the broth and noodles to our liking. We would have been happier if there were more tempura and green onions. It could also be spicier. It was the most delicious udon I've had since Nihonichi Udon, and I recommend it as you can eat comfortably without waiting in line.

I have visited this place a few times☆ Last time I heard someone talking about it... I was thinking about trying the liver and tripe tempura♪ Oh! If there's a curry udon place where you can eat red and white tempura, I would love to try it♪ So, I came to check it out☆ It was there! They had it! Looks spicy, right? But it's not spicy at all. It's actually on the sweeter side, similar to the sauce I've had since I was young. It's really delicious!♡ The curry udon was also tasty. Thank you for the meal(^人^)

There is a famous curry udon shop in Ichijoji, Sakyo-ku. Let's start with the story of "Udon Shimizu," where the owner of this shop trained. There was an old udon shop next to the park in Shimogamo, which was not in a good location, but it was a well-known shop that was featured in magazines many times. I have been there about 10 times. The owner of that shop had to close due to illness. It must have been about 15 years ago. The owner who worked at Shimizu opened a shop to pay homage to Shimizu, and it is still running today. Even now, many regular customers from the Shimizu era visit the shop. I tried the curry meat kitsune udon (850 yen) and paid an extra 50 yen to have it made in the "Shimizu style." When I asked what was different, they said it was the spice blend. "When I started my own shop, I adjusted the spices in my own way. But the regular customers who used to eat here 2-3 times a week can tell the difference. So I also prepared a spice blend that faithfully reproduces the taste of Shimizu." It seems that they find it difficult to make various changes when they are supported by such sensitive long-time customers. For example, even if the Kagawa-style noodles are trending, it may not be easy to catch up from tomorrow. Certainly, for those who have experienced eating at Shimizu, it is a nostalgic taste. It's delicious. I read several other reviews. There seem to be various opinions. For those who have eaten udon in Kagawa or Osaka, there may be some unfamiliar aspects. It is a taste that grew up in the northern part of Rakuhoku, Sakyo-ku. I think you should try it while keeping that in mind.

The street from Shugakuin to here is a ramen battleground. Among the several shops with people lining up, I searched for this place. San Yoshia is a local favorite where a friendly son and two mothers run the shop. The recommended dish is curry udon, but today I had the Tamago Toji for 590 yen with a topping of beef tendon for 210 yen, and a mini Oyako-don for 490 yen as a lunch service. The noodles were quite soft, and the broth was slightly sweet for my taste. I think this broth would go well with curry udon. Currently, there are not many shops that can surpass San Yoshia in Uji.

I visited the previous shop before they moved to this new location. Finally, I was able to visit this place after knowing about the relocation! The familiar signboard and curtain made me feel at home. The interior of the shop seemed more welcoming and easy to enter compared to before. They have counter seats, table seats, and tatami seats inside the restaurant. I ordered the curry udon with meat, and I could choose between thin or thick noodles. The appearance was so appealing that I had to take a second look. I also ordered a small rice on the side. While waiting, I noticed that they had lunch sets available as well. I realized that the prices for small and medium rice were the same, so I should have gone for the medium rice. As for the taste, it had a bit of spiciness, thick sauce, and a rich broth, which made it delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I knew that the area around Ichijoji in Kyoto is a fierce battleground for ramen, and I have eaten ramen there many times in the past, mainly for lunch. However, I didn't expect it to be so crowded at night. Every ramen shop had a long line, including the one I visited earlier which had a wait of about 50 minutes. So, I decided to change my plans and went to a udon shop in the Ichijoji area where I could easily get a seat regardless of the genre. I ordered the curry udon for 650 yen (tax included). The curry itself was tasty with a flavorful broth, but the udon noodles were lacking in texture and chewiness. They seemed to be easily overpowered by the heat of the curry. It felt more like a cheap standing udon you would find in Osaka for that price. Overall, it was an average experience. By the way, Ichijoji is a student town with narrow streets and limited space, even bicycles are prohibited. The area has become a fierce battleground for ramen shops, which is quite surprising. The coin parking lots around here charge about 220 yen for 20 minutes, which was a bit of a shock for me as I don't usually drive. I later found out that the udon shop I visited is a renowned establishment in Shimizu. In any case, I believe that the quality of the udon noodles is crucial, and in this case, it was lacking.

This is a review of a curry udon restaurant that used to be a famous spot but has since closed down. The restaurant where the reviewer worked has now moved to a new location due to the old building's deterioration. They ordered the regular curry udon with a side of small rice. They mentioned that they are not a fan of spicy food, but found the curry udon to be just right in terms of spiciness and texture, reminiscent of the original restaurant's taste. They also noted that there is a limited edition of a recreated version of the curry udon from the previous restaurant. Overall, they enjoyed the meal and mentioned that they would like to try other items on the menu in the future.

It's been a while since I wandered around Ichijoji. There's a new ramen shop that opened up, but this time I decided to try a curry udon at this place. I visited around 12 o'clock on a holiday. The shop was located across from Yu. There were 2 customers already inside. I sat at the counter and looked at the menu. It seemed like curry udon was their specialty, as it spanned across 2 pages. I ordered the "Curry Chicken Udon for 850 yen & Small Rice for 140 yen". They mentioned a 10 yen discount for rice during lunchtime. You could choose between thick udon noodles, thin noodles, soba, or yellow soba, and I chose thick udon noodles this time. The interior had counter seats and tables right as you entered, with tatami seating in the back. After a short wait, my order arrived. The tray was just big enough to hold the bowl and rice bowl. I've never seen that before. I poured the curry broth over the udon. The curry flavor was gentle and nice, probably thanks to the broth. The chunks of chicken were a nice touch. The menu suggested mixing the curry broth with the rice, but I decided to top the rice with the broth, chicken, and egg, creating a curry chicken rice bowl. It was absolutely delicious. I slurped it all up. The udon had a soft, round texture, similar to what you'd find at local udon shops or diners. They also had a tempting secret menu item, oyakodon, so I might try that with warm broth udon next time. Udon on the ramen street. This is also a great find. Thank you for the meal.

Curry Udon❣️ I always thought that Shimizu in Kamogawa was the most delicious. The shop was next to Tentei, a ramen shop on Ramen Street. They have a parking lot on the opposite side, but I didn't know that, so when I parked at the natural food supermarket Help, I had to pay a little extra for going over the time limit. I shop at Help once a week, so I'm happy that this shop opened❣️ Of course, I added the limited edition for an extra 50 yen❣️ Ah, it's delicious after all. The spices have a nice aroma, and I almost drank up all the broth. You can also get it to go. I got the sliced udon to go instead of the curry, and it was delicious at home. But for some reason, I keep forgetting to take photos〜

This udon restaurant is known for its cozy and heartwarming atmosphere, famous for its curry udon. It is located in an area crowded with ramen shops. I tried the zaru udon and curry kitsune udon. The udon from Kansai region is soft and the zaru udon comes with wasabi as a condiment. The curry kitsune udon has a spicy kick as you eat more of it. The broth was not as flavorful as I had hoped. The udon here is different from the firm texture of Sanuki udon, it's more fluffy and soft. Each type of udon has its own charm, so it depends on personal preference. Although I prefer udon with a firmer texture, the fluffy udon went well with the curry. The atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and welcoming, with tatami seating making it suitable for families with young children.

After finishing my errands at Ichijoji, I decided to explore the area for lunch. There were plenty of ramen shops, but options for dining with children were limited. That's when I stumbled upon this place. It's an udon restaurant that was relocated from Moto Tanaka. Though a bit far, they have a parking lot and offer both table and tatami seating. We were seated in the tatami area and I looked over the menu. Despite the hot and humid day before the typhoon, I couldn't resist trying their famous curry udon. I ordered the "Sujitomi Curry Udon" and the "Curry Niku Kousoba" made with Chinese noodles. For the kids, we went with the safe choice of "Zaru Udon". The curry udon was delicious, with a rich broth that coated the noodles well. While not overly spicy at first, it gradually warmed me up from the inside. The presence of a raw egg significantly affects the mildness. Both versions were tasty. After breaking a sweat, I had a satisfying lunch. With a wide menu selection and excellent service, I definitely plan on coming back again.

It was delicious. The portion size of the rice is similar to that of the udon, so be aware. The spiciness is medium, and the soup has a thick texture, making it taste like a delicious curry udon. Since most of the surrounding places serve ramen, how about trying udon for a change?

No matter how many times I go, Wadazan is always delicious ☺️ I've only had the curry udon, but it has been consistently tasty since before they moved! This time, the tendon curry udon really warmed me up ✨
