Casually running around the area near Kichijoji, I stumbled upon "Kinshiro Shokudo" restaurant. Since there didn't seem to be a parking lot, I parked at a nearby coin parking lot and decided to visit. The restaurant was in a house-like building, with the first floor serving as the dining area. As I timidly opened the door, a cheerful lady greeted me with a warm "Welcome!" Surprisingly, the interior was bright, with several local gentlemen already enjoying their lunch. There were no menus on the tables, and everyone was deciding their orders by looking at the menu written on the wall. The whiteboard displayed several options for the "Today's Special Set Meal," so I chose the "Tonkatsu Set Meal (from Okinawa) with Nikujaga" for ¥820. They also had other service menus like fish set meals and rice bowl dishes. While waiting and watching the TV broadcast, more customers started to arrive. Most of them were local gentlemen or labor workers from nearby, with a 100% uncle customer rate. The restaurant had 7 tables and around 14 seats around a large table, accommodating about 40 people. From the 4 people working in the kitchen, it was evident that the restaurant was quite busy. After about 10 minutes, the food was served. It included a plate with tonkatsu, a bowl of nikujaga, rice, miso soup, and pickles. I started with the miso soup with tofu, seaweed, and fried tofu, which was hot and had a slightly salty white miso flavor. The rice portion was larger than usual and had a decent taste and texture. The main dish, tonkatsu, was thinly sliced with a crispy batter that tended to separate from the meat. It was served with a ketchup-based sauce and was decent overall. The nikujaga could have had a bit more meat, but it served its purpose as a side dish. Overall, the cost-performance ratio, atmosphere, and taste were decent, with good customer service. In this area, there aren't many restaurants like this, so I think this place is quite valuable. Rating: 3.5 stars (68/100)
