Porta's "Western-style" dining area was renewed on March 25th. The atmosphere is more fitting for the western area of Kyoto. I decided to try the beef and green onion udon set meal for 1,080 yen. The green onion beef udon for 900 yen was also delicious. The broth was a nice balance of sweet and spicy. I also ordered the side dish for 180 yen, which complemented the udon well. The meat in the udon was tender and tasty. The restaurant had measures in place for alcohol disinfection and temperature checks. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

It was lunchtime, so I stopped by Kineya at Porta. It was a little crowded, probably because it was the weekend. I had the chilled plum and grated yam udon from Kishu. Whenever I come here, I always get this dish. They also offer free extra noodles. Even though they were out of bonito flakes, it was still delicious! The udon here, made by hand, is always tasty!

Even though it was still before noon, there were a lot of people inside Porta and every store had a line. I felt like eating eel, so I came here! The cold soba and fluffy eel were delicious! There was more food than I expected, so I couldn't finish it and had my partner help me finish it, haha.

I had a set meal with half a katsudon and half a portion of udon, while he had a dish with 2 portions of noodles topped with chicken tempura. It looked like a lot of food. Personally, I don't like cramped seats for two people. If we get seated in such a place, unless the food is incredibly delicious, we won't come back. The choice of seating becomes a deciding factor for choosing a restaurant. This udon place was nothing special, but thank you for the meal.

"Kineya Kyoto Porta store. It is an udon restaurant located in the underground shopping area, Porta, of JR Kyoto Station. They have many branches in Kansai. Recommended for those who like udon with a strong texture. The noodles are smooth and delicious. The oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl) with flavorful broth was also amazing."

I gave up on the crowded restaurant I wanted to go to and ended up at this place in the underground mall at Kyoto Station. I saw online that they had Tonkatsu Curry Udon on the menu, but they were out of it when I got there. So, I ordered the Katsu Don set meal for ¥1,260 and a medium bottle of beer for ¥550. The beer arrived first and I quickly drank it all. The lunch beer was so delicious. The Katsu Don set meal arrived soon after. I dug into the Katsu Don first. I soaked the udon noodles in the broth and slurped them up. Yeah, I still prefer soba noodles (I'm a mountain monkey from Kanto, after all). It's just a typical restaurant in the station area. That's about it. Thank you for the meal.

☆Oyakodon Set Meal☆ You can choose between udon or soba, and also between hot or cold. The handmade udon was chewy and thick, very delicious. The oyakodon had a strong dashi flavor. There were many other menu options available as well. It may be crowded during lunchtime on weekends, so you might have to wait a bit. Prices range from 1000 to 2000 yen.

I had the "Cold Toriten Oroshi Udon" at Porta's restaurant area. All the shops had long queues, but I was seated after a 23-minute wait. The udon from Kineya had a firm texture and was very delicious. The crispy toriten paired well with the broth. I could have ordered a set meal, but I decided to just get the udon to watch my carbohydrate intake. A few years ago, there used to be a corner where you could watch the artisans dusting flour and cutting udon noodles, but it has been renovated now.

Arrived at Kyoto Station right around lunchtime. The Porta area has changed quite a bit. With limited time, I quickly decided to eat here. I was a bit indecisive, but ended up choosing curry udon with fried mochi topping. The light curry udon had a Kyoto-like flavor, and the smooth curry broth was delicious! The topping was served separately on a plate, which was a nice touch. Convenient location, recommended for a quick meal. Thank you for the delicious meal! ♡

After seeing the autumn leaves light-up, I visited the restaurant. Feeling cold, I chose the warm ankake udon. The broth had a hint of ginger without a strong fish flavor. It had silky yuba and sweet diced fried tofu in it. I thought the amount of fried tofu in the photo was different? The udon broth in the katsudon set was deliciously light with a bonito flavor. The katsudon egg was cooked through, but I prefer it a bit runny. Both dishes were delicious and warmed me up. Thank you for the meal!

Today's lunch was at "Kineya Kyoto Porta" where I had the "special cold tempura udon". The tempura was crispy and had a good texture. However, the udon was too firm and chewy, almost like rubber. The broth was lacking compared to the udon.

When I came on a trip, I wanted to eat the local specialty before heading back, so even though I was tired, I made an effort to go eat the specialty dish (lol). It was Sunday night, so all the restaurants were super crowded. But I didn't give up and after waiting for about 15 minutes, I was lucky to get a seat! I always thought Kyoto udon was a warm dish, but since it was really hot that day, I couldn't bring myself to eat something warm, so I went for cold udon instead. It seemed like the restaurant was really pushing their warm udon dishes, as the menu was very limited and I had a hard time deciding... In the end, I chose the zaru udon. My impression was that it wasn't as cold as I expected, it was more lukewarm which was a bit of a downside for me. Maybe this is normal? Also, there was not enough condiments which was disappointing. However, a plus point was that they offered free extra noodles (I opted for regular size as I was already full).

I ordered a set of Toriten Udon and Oyakodon! Although it was described as a small size, it was quite filling. The udon had a good texture and the Oyakodon had a delicious broth. There was always a long line whenever I passed by, but I finally got to try it!

I wanted to eat soba or udon, so I went to Porta. The soba shop had a long line, so I ended up choosing udon today. Even though I intended to eat udon, I was captivated by the menu item "unagi-don" and ordered the unagi-don set. It took about 5 minutes to be served. The unagi-don set came with 3 pieces of eel on top and a mini udon. The eel was fluffy, but a bit too soft, leaving me feeling slightly unsatisfied. The udon had a good chewy texture. Since it was a quick menu item, I guess this is what you get.

I ordered the grilled eel set meal for 2150 yen and a beer, while my companion ordered the colorful set meal for 1570 yen. I think the portions are fantastic and the cost performance is great. The restaurant is not very spacious, but still provides a comfortable dining experience.

Porta Dining has undergone a slight renewal, and the Kineya restaurant here has also reopened with a few changes in location. They have added tempura shrimp and tempura shrimp on top of noodles. The noodles were smooth and the chicken tempura was crispy, with five pieces that were very well put together.

I went to Kineya located at the Porta in front of Kyoto Station. This restaurant serves udon, soba, and rice bowl dishes. I ordered the popular curry udon. What I had:
- Katsu-don and curry udon set meal (tax included 1250 yen)
The curry udon has a Japanese-style roux with plenty of pork and onions. It's not very spicy. The udon noodles are thick but cooked soft, I prefer them a bit firmer. The set meal with katsu-don for 1250 yen including tax is a good deal! The service is quick and it's close to the station, making it convenient for a quick meal when you're short on time.

I wandered around Kyoto Station looking for a late lunch. It was around 1:30 PM and some restaurants had long lines, but I didn't feel like waiting. I was craving something with a gentle flavor, like dashi, which is a sign that my body is tired. Probably because of last night's drinking... I decided to go to this restaurant where the atmosphere seemed to match what I was looking for. I ordered the "Kyoto-style green onion and beef udon with sauce" for 900 yen. The menu only listed the set meal for 1,070 yen, but they also offered a single item option. The udon came with a generous amount of green onions and a piece of beef in the middle. It reminded me of Taiwanese ramen in appearance, but the taste was completely different. The sauce was slightly sweet, probably from the sweetness of the beef and green onions. The sauce was on the lighter side, which was different from what I usually prefer, but it was still delicious. The amount of beef was satisfying, and the udon had a nice chewy texture. It was like a Kyoto-style version of tanuki udon with green onions and beef added. I really enjoyed it. The ginger added a nice touch, reminding me of tanuki udon. Overall, it was a great meal. I didn't do any research beforehand, but I was happy with my impromptu choice. If I ever crave a dish with dashi around Kyoto Station again, I'll definitely come back to this udon restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

I entered the restaurant around 8 o'clock. When I tried to ask the staff what to order, they recommended a set of pork cutlet bowl and curry udon, so I went with that. It was a hearty set. They said you can add half a serving of udon for free. It arrived quite quickly. They provided paper aprons. The rice in the pork cutlet bowl was a bit dry. The pork cutlet was tender and average. It reminded me of a supermarket pork cutlet bowl. The egg didn't feel freshly made, and the fact that you can only add udon makes me think it might be pre-made. It was around 8 o'clock, so maybe that's why. The curry udon was also average. It wasn't as hot as the one I had at a super sento before. It had a good amount of meat and onions. The udon was not like the ones in Kyoto, but had a good texture. The pork cutlet bowl and curry udon cost 1200 yen. If we consider a supermarket pork cutlet bowl for 400 yen and curry udon for 800 yen, including the location cost, it's not bad.

I visited this restaurant when I was at Kyoto Station. I decided to have udon after looking around the dining area. The restaurant was busy but I was seated right away. I ordered zaru soba with one tempura on the side. Both were delicious. This place is a good option for udon or soba near the station. Thank you for the meal.

I visited around 20:15 on a regular day. There were two groups of customers before me. I ordered the Kishu plum cold udon set for 920 yen. The ingredients on top may look cheap, but it wasn't actually bad. The presentation was a bit sloppy compared to the sample, so it gave off a cheap vibe. With shiso, grated daikon, and plum, it's a reliable combination, so as long as the noodles are good, it won't taste bad. It had the reliable taste of a chain restaurant.
